Lemon Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 I can't believe how disappointed I am with this. I have received no help through these forums, have gone in circles with "tech support" through emails that take literal days to get responded to each way with the separation of the business hours between Moscow and the U.S. I can't even get the program to be completely removed from my computer cleanly because there is always another instance "running" so it will not complete an uninstall, and any requests of being refunded and having my account disabled are just completely ignored. I am really, really disappointed that I have to be "that guy" on this forum for a game that you guys love. I am positive I would love it too if I could play it, but I have had it for over 6 weeks now and have 0 minutes of gametime. I would even purchase it through Steam a second time, or another "Battle of 'X'" version to be able to play this, but I don't think that would help anything since I can't remove the bugged out install I have on my system. At least Steam would honor my refund requests I guess. I am a pilot, a history buff, and a gamer. Never imagined that would all equate to me being so bummed about this game. Again, just asking for help here. And maybe ranting a little bit. Thanks hello, since you look desperate with no solution yet, i d like and i ll try to help you, just know i am not a professional but i went trough a lot of problems ,and always found i way to fix it by myself since i got computers and if i was you and with infos you give i would kill the process of those runing instance before re install the game, press ctrl-alt-del keys and manually end process related to il-2 installation running and after, you can use a registry cleaner like CCleaner (free) or any good one, then try to re install. if it still not work i would do again what i previously said, and i d uninstall all microsoft visual c++, also uninstall Vulkan run times libraries, and your video card driver (in apps and feature) of windows, then i d reinstall the video card driver and re install the game after, really hope it can help you and you can finally enjoy this game, good luck CoyoteK

blitze Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Reaper, which map are you trying the career in? Kuban is a bit of a resource intensive map, have you tried Moscow or Stalingrad? What are you in game graphic settings? I noticed that ingame AA runs smoother and without horizon shimmering at low alt compared to Nvidia Control Panel AA. Also I have noticed that Nvidia V-Sync seems to run better than ingame. Setting render distance to 40 or 70kms might help as with shadows low, clouds med and a few other things you can experiment with. I run Full Screen as Windowed caps my fps at 60 where as Full Screen allows for above 60 on my monitor that can handle 144fps Also what resolution are you running? AMD processors are not great in this and other single thread coded games, they are improving with the newer CPU's and they run great in DX12 / Vulcan coded games but we are not there yet with the BoS series. Sometimes, one has to turn graphics down to get smoothness required but at least it means that a future hardware upgrade will bring lovely benefits for the sim down the track.

Hi, Steam doesn't have an option to stop updates, the only method to stop updates is to add a hour shedule for updates or to set 1kb download speed for updates, i checked my games in steam to see if i have pending updates and no updates available, then i have tested the IL-2 game with STEAM offline mode and i have 45 FPS when i start the game first time, i have restarted my pc and i tested IL-2 game with STEAM online mode and i see 30 FPS, with Steam online mode i have to restart the game for 2-3 times to see 45 FPS. The solution for 45 FPS is to start this game with STEAM offline mode. Try and start the game with steam online mode then check FPS, restart pc , and try again to start the game with steam offline mode then check FPS.

Upon launching the game and starting a mission from one of my campaigns, it appears that all of my quick view settings have been reset to default. Not a huge issue, but not sure what the update folder and my quick view settings have to to with one another.

After some thoughts: it could be because apparently the updater is badly optimized and downloads the update, creates the new files there, then replaces the old ones, all on the same disk, thus eating up several times the required space. Due to the nature of the program, it sits on an SSD, which is not unlimited in size. Here the update is 20 GB, and I have 29 GB free. Additional assets (videos, screenshots, logs): log in attachment. Redglyph Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 (edited) Same problem again trying to update. Obviously the updater is not optimized at all, the update is alegedly 20 GB, and starting from an emptied updates directory, it completely filled my disk and ended up with this: So perhaps it's worse than I thought and it even unpacks the file at the same place, before replacing the old ones. And on top of that, it does them all in one go instead of proceeding by file - and still manages to take more space than the actual game and all its DLC and saved files!. It's simply impossible to update unless there's 3 or 4 times the necessary space. In order to keep the destination path occupation within reasonable limits, I'd suggest to - let the user specify the download path (including the disk), at the very least - let the user specify the temporary path (including the disk) for the uncompressing and whatever else it's doing - proceed by file and not by batch - avoid intermediary files when it's not necessary and of course, because a user is not the only one needing Internet, - limit the download bandwidth I can't give the final version because I have to schedule that during the night, I can't start it now or it will download at full throughput and starve the other network outlets. I doubt it's relevant anyway, the updater version has not been put in the file but it must be the last one. It's not the Steam version, I bought it on your website. That's what I did ("starting from an emptied updates directory"), it's not enough. The screenshot with the directory sizes is after the updater has given up (not enough disk space). You can see that it has generated more than 50 GB in the updates directory, I'm sure it would need even more. Please read my post on how it manages to occupy so much disk space, because I'm pretty sure I'm correct, the reason why updates get so big is because the updater unpacks or patchs all the files at the same time, so effectively taking several times the normal disk space. It's confirmed by the name of the files in the updates directory (after it has given up). The only option is to remove everything and reinstall the game. Or to improve the updater as suggested, which would benefit a lot of users. The 2 first options are very easy to implement and would be a first good work-around. They also have the advantage on the data flow, for people who have a hard disk (reading from one disk to another is faster than reading/writing on the same disk because of random accesses). Edited January 19, 2021 by Redglyph
Redglyph Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 Because of this, I have to reinstall everything, so again a ~30 GB download. Two further suggestions: - it's not really obvious from the website to find where the download link is, one has to log in with the profile, is it really necessary? - once the installer is launched, it first tries to install MSVC libs then DirectX. If it is not necessary, those sub-installation will give a failure error message, which isn't really user-friendly. People who are not familiar with it will believe the entire installation has failed. => it would be good to indicate this is normal.
