Can someone post me a picture of what the skin looks like in PhotoShop so I can check if my skin file is somehow flipped?

Here's how it looks in the GIMP. I don't think it would too much different in Photoshop.

Thanks. It looks like that on my end as well.

Strange...

Anyone have any idea, why my skin keeps showing up like this:

Is it connected to how I save the file?

Sometimes programs default to save "Flipped Vertically". The DDS plug-in from nVidia has such a feature. Make sure it is not checked.

That's what I thought as well and I left it unchecked. But I actually got it figured out now: I mistakenly chose not to generate MIP-map (or whatever it's called) but use existing one when saving. When I tried generating it, it looks fine.

Back to work for me :)

Still WIP...

Not convinced with default weathering... It seems to me a bit overdone with the default one...

MiG-3 (early series)Unit: 401st IAP

Serial: 36
This profile shows an example of 401 IAP, Moscow front, July 1941. 401 IAP, as 402 IAP, was an elite unit made by test pilots, that flew to the front on 30th June 1941. It was formed on initiative of Hero of the Soviet Union Stepan Suprun, that was its first commander, and died on combat on 4 July 1941. Other examples wear the n. 42 and 57; they look similar to 36, perhaps without the black band on the tail.

Beautiful skins everyone! Thank you all so much... Is there anyone that can complete the squadron for the skin some one already made? The white one with the red arrow? First plane in the picture was made, dash 2 and 3 haven't. Can anyone complete the full squad so wingmen can fly together in style on those cold harsh winter maps? :P

Nice one Spektre.  A well deserved upvote from me.

For all the Russian speakers among us, does anyone know what the slogan is that's written on the MiG in the far background?

"За Родину" "За Сталина" "За Партию Большевиков"

"For Motherland" "For Stalin" "For the Party of Bolsheviks"

Love your MiG-3 skins for 46 Samson!

You mean .dds files? You need a .dds plugin.

PSD files should open up with no problems.

Thanks I tried to use the shades on the color chart AKAN (Russian model paint) I think is one of the most faithful.

Very nice work.  But I think that this aircraft was not white but painted a light gray color used VVS before the war.  The wings are sometimes indicated as red but green will probably correct.

Yes, that one little missed. However, this green wing is about right. But even with red option it would possibly lead to a lot of discussions about this machine - green narrowly won.

Thx! I know it's kind of a highly debated paint scheme and quite frankly I know little to none about it's history. Still this machine is commonly illustrated with white fuselage paint. Also, as seen in the original photograph, the fuselage has a lighter colour that blends very well into the snowy background, so white seems better.

Red02n.jpg

I've came across another model with a similar paint scheme however, namely Black 12, which is believed to have an overal silver painted fuselage overpainted with white winter camouflage, which owuld certainly fit this machine as well. The underbelly colour is barely visibel right below the tail fin root and shows a very bright colour, possibly not blue.

Hello everybody.

New skins are coming very fast since the template had been released.

I'm not going so fast : my first skin is still WIP.

So truth be told, over this skin, I hesitated for a long time, but I figured why not! Although it is one of the most disputed MiG skins at all, but it suits him.
It is a "blue" 9  of 38 (PAE Air Recognition Regiment) from PVO (Home Air Defence) of Moscow in the 1941st
I used as a base interpretation Massimo Tessitore and for interpretation  remaining camouflage I used a picture  of built model find on web

Red 02 is finished. Took some more effort than I though but it's finally completed :) I went for the original ayout (white upper paint, silver cowling, blue underbelly) because it simply looked best to me (and i's the look that counts after all).

Also I went for a black spinner as well as a black coloured backside for the prop based on this profile. Hope you enjoy it!

Love all these skins guys! She is definitely the prettiest plane in the game.

Still very much WIP for me. It's my first skin in BoS (well my first attempt at skinning since like 10 years ago in IL2-FB) but I think it's turning out much as I'd want it.

A fictional skin (I leave the historical ones to you pros) but not entirely implausible with makeshift 3-colour camouflage common to autumn 1941:

post-13181-0-72088900-1451514654_thumb.jpg post-13181-0-93745900-1451514674_thumb.jpg post-13181-0-86278400-1451514693_thumb.jpg

I want to replace the stars and add a few more bells and whistles like a small number on the tail fin. I'm also looking for a proper font to recreate a realistic look of the slogan on the sides. Anyone have a font to suggest, that looks right in cyrillic?

Good stuff everyone, can't wait to get BoM so I can download all the goodies here

Finkeren, just a suggestion (or perhaps even a thought), you could possibly use "эта машина сбивает фашистов" instead. Sbivayet is the verb used in lieu of an aircraft 'kill' action so it translates as 'this machine shoots down/kills Fascists'. The original quote as it was works well in Russian too though, and I like the colours you used. With enough luck that yellow stripe might trick an Axis pilot who's unused to the MiG's silhouette into thinking it's a friendly for a second or so.

In addition to asking the people here for the fonts they have used, you can try to scourge through the Russian skinning sections and see if you can find fonts they used for the slogans.

EDIT: Some of these could work out (not all though, most are useless), some should look a little original yet authentic which is good since a lot of mechanics, pilots and regiments as a whole improvised on the field while others did standard works and some got the additions straight from the factory (like the 13 IAP ones or the Chkalov Squadron series). http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/list/language/cyrillic

Aside form some mapping issues, I just have to make the '54' and the new stars. Almost there buddy then I'll be finishing up Hollywood's 34IAP MiG's.

Hi gentlemen,

If you're interested I can post this small PSD with some font numbers to be used in skins or if you like them you can download the font directly.

Here is the example.

EDITED: Download link contains the PSD layered with different numbers and a folder with windows fonts that can be used in slogans: https://app.box.com/s/934ehcl5h2vxhiuj4295podwqiry3duk

Attached an example of the fonts/letters on a MIG3 applied on the fuselage(Kremlin font/Za rodinu!) and numeral used(Poor Richard font)
