Birdman Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Hello gents! I've started to use harder difficulty settings and I find myself struggling with CEM (how surprising :D) in the Stuka. I followed Pierre's guidelines : http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/5395-my-cem-settings-those-having-difficulties/?p=104240 But no matter what the engine will fry (engine rpms and MP going nuts ) usually at around 2000-2500m of altitude, I don't understand why. Any Pro-Tips?
Birdman Posted August 26, 2014 Author Posted August 26, 2014 Yep the temps on the gauges bottom right of the cockpit looked good (in the 70-80°C IIRC)
Chuck_Owl Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 (edited) Isn't there supposed to be a more advanced CEM model in the coming updates? I don't remember if I dreamed of that or if I actually read it somewhere.Funny enough, because I find Russian engines to be very hard to "cook", while German engines seem a bit more sensitive. In which case, it would be really interesting to have all operating temperatures and RPMs for each aircraft in order to get one big fat guide for CEM. Edited August 26, 2014 by 71st_AH_Chuck
Freycinet Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Perhaps you need to go to coarse prop pitch to avoid overrevving the engine.

I don't remember if I dreamed of that or if I actually read it somewhere. Their referral you speak of regarding CEM update that was coming with 76, may have been talking about the animated startup sequence. At least when I saw the new animated sequence, I assumed that was what they were referring...
HagarTheHorrible Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 As others have said. Pull back on the prop pitch, over-reving breaks the engine very quickly.
Birdman Posted August 26, 2014 Author Posted August 26, 2014 Thanks for the answers gents I'm keeping MP at around 1 ata and using prop pitch I keep rpms at 2250 but still it fries
Matt Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Try 1.2 ATA and 2100 RPM and you should be good to go.
FlatSpinMan Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Good topic, OP. I'm still zooming around in Novice shooting things and looking at the pretty fire, but when I get over that novelty, I'll be needing this kind of info.
malcheus Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 (edited) I made a cheatsheat for engine management out of the cockpit at-a-glance guide, maybe it's helpful: I haven't tested any of this btw, just a quick reference. http://imgur.com/SxPZQM8 What struck me as odd is that the Russians climb at their max RPM's, while the Germans can use the "1 minute until self-destruct" mode if they have to. Birdman Posted August 27, 2014 Author Posted August 27, 2014 I finally managed to get to 4K, dive and drop bombs and RTB without frying the engine! yay! 1
