Does the bf109 g2 has a manual prop pitch switch?

Yes, but 99.9999999999 percent of the time you don't need to worry about it.

But if the engine is broken. And your out of fuel. Does the prop goes auto to

feathered pitch ?

what about auto and manual cooling in the bf109 g2?

There is no such thing as prop feathering in the 109. As for engine cooling - unless your radiators are damaged, leave it in automatic mode.

Ive got a bandit its very close to my six. I open radiators to 100% and do barrel rolls. In hope to lose the bandit. Does it help to open the radiators in this situation(so my plane loses speed and the other plane overshoots)? or does it distract from further manoveuring?

Leave the radiators alone - fiddling with them isn't going to help you at all.

Hello to all pilots!

I'm also one of the newbies here. I did fly in the 90's (aces of the pacific, aces over europe, early versions of MFS and combat simulator…) and I also have some experience in real flying (glider plane). Then a looong pause came, till couple of months ago. I found an old DVD of original IL-2 from 2001, and I installed it on my old laptop, and I also wiped the dust from my old joystick. I couldn't beleive how this sim was different from the others I remember form 90's, and also much more difficult to fly… Ok, now the fun begins!!  thanks to google, youtube and other resources, I find out, that there is much more out there – il2 1946, CloD and of course IL2 Great battles series.

I got myself a new computer, that was quite a big stress, because I don't know much about computer hardware and details (CPU, GPU…) – google helped a lot. I purchased CloD and Battle of Stalingrad. I installed it and – WOW!! Ok, I did see some videos on youtube, but still… I couldnt beleive the graphics, realism and mostly how damn hard it is to fly. It's just amazing!!

I watched a lot of different youtube tutorials, now I'm able to take off, fly from one point to another, and also sometimes land, without breaking propeller. I admit, it's never enough, I'm a bit addicted.

I have a lot of questions, most of the answers I find on this forum and youtube, at this moment I struggle a lot with my Trackir5 a got and the settings…

Thats it for now, I just wanted to say hello to the comunity.

Welcome Sasopirih! Good choices to start with, IL-2 Box is very popular and CLoD (Blitz) has a fanatical/growing following also. Both have their strengths, IL-2 Box being a bit more up to date (better UI and VR available) and IL-2 CLoD/Tobruk having more planes and massive battles possible. Only this I dislike about CLoD is the user interface/controller setup but once past that you are good to go. IL-2 Box also offers WWI (FC I/II) and Tank (Tank Crew) modules so add that and all the different theater content possibility and it is massive.

Hi sasopirih. I'm glad to see that you are enjoying your re-discovery of flight sims. There are lots of answers for you from the community in the IL-2 Resources post. Also, I find IL-2 forum searches more effective if you do them through Google like so:

        site: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/ my search terms

for example:

Enjoy!

I'm pretty sure that's the game root directory. If still in doubt, check this thread:

Hey guys I'm back after having a busy few months irl.

I tried to download the update and my client got stuck so I tried to reinstall the game. Now I did that and it got stuck and now I tried multiple things but my client gets stuck like this the whole time. It says its still downloading but it just doesn't do anything for hours.

I tried it at various times of the day but every time around 11-12 GB it stops Tried to run as administrator, a new download thing and whatnot.

Anybody got a suggestion?

I didn't wanna bother 1C because I think you guys here are experienced enough to answer this noob question

Well, there's one about cleaning the folder

   C:\Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\updates

(or your equivalent). It saved me once.

Ahh yeah great thanks! I did something similar I guess, I installed it in a different folder and then it worked. Thanks man! Appreciate it.

I think this stays one of the communities which is most helpful :)

Stabilizer angle (angle of the horizontal tail assembly)

Technical tips screen percentages do not match the in cockpit dial modelled but are a representation of movment from the neutral setting. Again, its the Stabilizer.

Do you own the game yet? Your questions appear hypothetical and appear to indiciate that you dont.

At the 56sec mark he indicates the control wheel that controls the stabalizer. Next to the control is a box that indicates the angle. The number in that box is the number you want +5 or -1.

It doesnt work like that. There isnt a single setting. At the end of the day its trim. Sometimes increasing it to force the nose up can help at little in bringing your nose around whilst lowering it can help keep you in level flight at higher speeds. Adjusting it can help keep your desired angle in a long dive or climb and sometimes this is the only thing that is going to stop you lawn darting into the ground if you dive steeply. The idea behind the trim wheel and the flap wheel being next to each other in real life  is that spinning them both together helps keep the aircrat in better trim for landing I think.

+1 is good for takeoff and cruse speed (450Kph or so). When I enter combat I like to start about 0, if I remember.

There are also recommended settings in the Specification tab.

Yep, I've gotten quite used to constant AI radio chatter though I turn down the radio volume considerably when flying Russian or German planes as those voices are really loud and strident bordering on hysterical! Brits and US voices are calm and matter of fact so not too bad, but I would be amused if they let out a "Wilhelm scream" when they're on fire once and a while.

In AQMB I too have been getting the insistent and non-stop "Rabbit 3 Target Destroyed" message and that is annoying as it just doesn't stop, it just keeps repeating over and over and over, sometime changing to "Rabbit 2" then back again to "Rabbit 3". This has only happened to me while flying the Spit IXe on the Rheinland map while attacking trains and I have not seen it happen on any other missions or maps. I do get the occasional repeat in all missions and maps but it is always limited to 2 or 3 repeats which I chalk up to pilot excitability and ignore. So I feel your pain comrade.

Hello

I am new to IL-2 Sturmovik, having bought most of the packages during the recent Steam sales. I have other Steam games and didn't even think to check if IL-2 was a standalone game, which I would have preferred. I managed to win a plane in the Christmas Giveaway here and learned the ins and outs of Steam/il2sturmovik.com account linkage. I started out with CFS2 and Windows 98. I remember when the first IL-2 Sturmovik came out but I probably didn't have enough room on my 10 MB hard drive for both.

I have FSX but I prefer combat flight sims. I've worked on military UAVs and am always impressed by the pilots of WWII aircraft. I've only flown a few of the aircraft in Il-2 Sturmovik and crashed them all, but the sim looks great.

This sim is like most things in life. Somewhat difficult at first, but that is what makes it more rewarding.
IL-2 Sturmovik prides itself on its flight model accuracy, as well as its appearance. Personally I would class it as one of the best, if not THE BEST flight sim available out there.
Enjoy it, as it is rewarding.

Cheers

Hello,

Last couple of days I can't see tracers of shooting any more? I didn't change anything at graphics. Normaly when I go to Berloga server I can see them. What could be the problem?

Hi, thanks for this help. I finally made the ‘leap’ from that other sim that shall remain nameless as Over Christmas break I got my head down and got to grips with the basics. I also bought all the dlc in the steam sale which was quite a good incentive to learn this sim properly. I love it. Brilliant in VR and sooooooooooo realistic!

ive got srs configured now and hope to get onto multiplayer after a bit more practice. Is there any guide on using the radio, talking to the airfield etc?

on my hd its 53gb

another question:

how to avoid flak?

Posted
29 minutes ago, FlyinCoffin said:

Historically, prayer was used for this. But unfortunately divine intervention was not (yet!) modelled into the sim by the devs. You'll probably have to dodge like the poor heathen pilots did, usually by flying in one direction for a few seconds, then turning abruptly and going straight again for a few seconds, cheating the flak unit calculations.

This varies a lot. Where are you flying? Single/multiplayer? WW2/WW1? Which campaign? Etc.

In WW1, Flying Circus multiplayer, on a normal Flugpark server mission, I would expect to be comfortable at 4k. Less at 3k. Worried at 2k. And pretty desperate at 1.5k near an enemy balloon.

FlyinCoffin, above 2000 m /6500 ft is safe from the 20mm and smaller caliber weapons, not sure about heavier flak guns but when I am above 2000m I seem to be relatively immune from all AAA as I have never been hit up there. Down low, especially around airfields, it can be pretty tough so I change direction and altitude a lot and tend to focus on taking those 20mm weapons out as quickly as I can before I join the dogfight. I get hit fairly often by those bastards once I get into a DF 'cause I'm focused on the enemy aircraft and not the AAA. I am also paying closer attention to where all the frontline artllery, etc., is located so I can avoid them on egress if I'm low and running from multiple bandits. AAA always gets me when my attention is focused on a target whether it's a ground target or an aircraft.

My experience only applies to SP in IL2 GB, J2_Bidu has presented some Flying Circus options above
