ThudThunder Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 After a bit of thinking I finally bought the standard edition. I always loved(and always will!) ROF, and am looking forward to jumping into this new game and community. I have a few questions however, I understand BOS will use an updated ROF engine. As for computer performance, my computer ran ROF fine but was a bit laggy with the channel map. I have ample power and a Nvidia Radeon 5670 with plenty of memory. Will my system be able to run the game? Second, I understand that you can earn planes in game with no purchase, is it possible to earn mods for the plane aswell? Thanks and excited, Pip22 S!
dburne Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 I have a feeling you will be just fine if you are running ROF without issue. In regards to the channel map, several reported some lag/stuttering with it - I suspect maybe it was not fully optimized perhaps prior to release - but who knows... my system seems to run the channel map ok, although at lower framerates. I still spend the majority of my time in the original ROF map.
DD_bongodriver Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 BOS may be the same engine as ROF but significantly modified, the graphics alone have had major tweaking and the theatre is WWII which demands more complex systems to be modelled, all of this will place higher demands from the system running it, encouragingly though the recent videos from a public presentation show some very fluid frame rates from tasks that could bring a lot of systems to their knees. Bottom line is nobody really knows how this will perform until it's in hand, I really don't think it's as simple as saying if you can run ROF you will be fine. 2
71st_AH_Hooves Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 From my further play testing I can tell you that on a I5, gtx 670, 8gigs ram, the game runs at a solid 50 to 55 FPS, every once and awhile I would encounter a decrease. mostly when I was flying right up to and behind the Katusha rockets going off (just had to see it as it was SO COOL LOOKING!!) , at that point in its heaviest hit it would drop down to around 25-30, only VERY shortly then back to normal 50-55. I was also told at the press event by Loft that the lighting effects are still being tweaked and optimized, so Im sure we'll see an improvement even on that. Other wise it was a smooth solid non stuttering 50-55. My favorite part (and the biggest FPS gain as well) was to zoom along the snow at low allt and hit a katusha with some cannons in the f4, then pull back and climb into that crisp cold blue sky. They really made it feel like you were soaring over a snow covered landscape, even jsut pulling up into the sky, For those that have seen a winter landscape and seen the sky against it know what Im talking about. "Crisp" is the only word to describe it.

Which CPU you have? Regarding GPU, its ATI Radeon not Nvidia.... btw, ROF was rocket fast on my i7 (3.5 GHz) and GTX660Ti... Edited August 6, 2013 by Tvrdi
dburne Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Hooves, what speed is your I5 processor running? Are you overclocking it? Thanks for the info,
=BKHZ=Furbs Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Maybe we can get his address, lay seige, take hostages and demand to also have some fun with BOS? I will get the pitchforks and burning torches!
ThudThunder Posted August 6, 2013 Author Posted August 6, 2013 Which CPU you have? Regarding GPU, its ATI Radeon not Nvidia.... btw, ROF was rocket fast on my i7 (3.5 GHz) and GTX660Ti... Intel® Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz My bad about the GPU, I dont know much about computers :D
71st_AH_Hooves Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 (edited) Lol relax guys, I dont have the Alpha. The I5 was a stock I5 sandy bridge 2500 K. Dont worry I mean all of us Premium dudes will be playing this thing before we know it, Fall is gonna be here before we know it!! Then we're gonna see it running on all kids of machines! Zmaj76 Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 (edited) Intel® Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz My bad about the GPU, I dont know much about computers :D Its a little bit on a slow side for ROF with channel map. Then probably for BOS too. ROF was upgraded with time, both with features and visual improvements (effects etc.). Though, with a little bit of tweaking video settings within the game (and in control panel of your GPU card) one can have a nice picture and performance. Resolution of your monitor is also an important factor when lookoing into performance. The lower the native resoltion of your monitr is - the better the performance will be. But if you have a stronger PC its not that important. All in all you will probably need to upgrade your pc for BOS. I guess after ROF experience aftew release, BOS will be well optimised.....In ROF, to gain significant performance boost, it was enough to lower AA and to switch off some post effects (usually not a big deal) and shadows/reflections. ATAG_Slipstream Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 (edited) I play RoF (and CoD!) on a Q6600 with 4GB ram and a GTX 285 card, on a 32" TV at 1440/900. Its all about tweaking to get the best results for your system, so don't think the worst just yet, as you might be surprised. Edited August 6, 2013 by JG52Uther

ThudThunder Posted August 6, 2013 Author Posted August 6, 2013 Runs fine on normal map, slow near trees, slow (not laggy, a bit skippy at times) on channel map. Lol relax guys, I dont have the Alpha. Make sure to make some good vids to hold me over til then
