greybeard_52 Posted November 6 Posted November 6 (edited) FEATURES Set minimum cruising speed as calibrated air speed the aircraft can reach at maximum available altitude with 75% of its power. Same value has been applied to maximum permissible climbing speed. This mod applies only to AI controlled aircraft. INSTALLATION This mod has been built to be installed by Jone Soft Generic Mod Enabler. Unzip into the relevant folder and install by JSGME. Remove by same means if you don't like, thus restoring stock files. Your game must be set for mods, of course. WARNING! Present mod is at alpha state, not all aircraft have been tested by author. Please let me know if you encounter troubles. Any contructive comment will be welcomed! v1.1 UPDATE - 9 November 2025 All aircraft have been included, with a few exceptions (jets, sailplane and Po-2). As a sidenote, in this process I noticed how, oddly enough, Bf 109G-14 and Bf 109K-4 original files were identical!😮 revised_cruising&climbing_speeds(for_IL2BoS)v1.1.zip Edited November 9 by greybeard_52 Updated attachment 3 1
Shadowed Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Sounds interesting! May I ask what the reason for this mod is? Genuinely curious!

Playing careers, I felt flight leader's aircraft too slow when allowing the rest of formation reaching it right after take off. Same during climb (which in the past drove to "falling P-47's" when these planes where laden with ordnance, stalling as a consequence during climb). Watching AI files, I got confirmation since these two speeds looked very close to aircraft's stall speed without flaps. So I tried to fix for my personal use according the criterion mentioned in first post; since in my opinion it worked, I thought to share with the community, just in case someone felt same need. 2 3
Shadowed Posted November 8 Posted November 8 I think you are onto something; great idea. I would love to see this in all AI planes, but that definitely is a lot of work. Thank you for releasing this.
kraut1 Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Hi @greybeard_52, AI cruise speeds is always an interesting topic for most flight simulations, similar as we did for CLOD for the dynamic mission by theOden in 2022. Additional to the speeds there are 2 further interesting parameters for max. cruise and climbing: WingLeaderThrottleUpLimit = 0.95 (default) and CruiseThrottleLimit = 0.9 (default) As you know sometimes during climbing or when maybe the plane has a very high payload + additional air resistance it is difficult to define suitable cruise speeds for all situations. Just in case that you have the problem in a mission to follow your AI flight leader it is possible to reduce these values a bit.

Hi kraut1! Good times those we worked on CloD! It's a pity they never developed a career mode... Yes, I considered the first value you highlighted, but, honestly, never had problems reaching the flight leader. On the contrary, I was motivated to this mod by my difficulty to stand on its side without stalling during formation joining up and climbing.
