Stuttering Issues - A solution for some?

Recommended Posts

Stuttering has been a regular topic over the years. There has been an incredible number of theories,  analysis, various sources that could be generating the effect etc.

The video here under uncovers one possible problem that generates stuttering. The video below shows that we must not always look at the problem from the GPU and GPU driver and even display side, but also have a more systems approach. Whatever external hardware I/O  interfaces and the motherboard hardware that manages it, can be a source of stuttering.

The number of PC hardware combinations is infinite, so the uncovered issue in the video is only one that may work for certain hardware and not others. This is why everyone has to go into details to find in their own rig design what can be the source of stuttering, if they have this issue.

Hey! @IckyATLAS really interesting topic.

I also suffered from stuttering on various machines (I love PC building) and I managed to pinpoint the issue: https://www.overclock.net/posts/29496359/

In my case, sometimes the X3D cache on AMD CPUs were the culprit. It gave me better performance, but also more stuttering.

On overclocking forums where I participate with other members from this forum it's know to have AMD with better "higher fps" but worse "Lower fps" and stuttering.

Some people call this AMDip, but the end result is that higher Fps do not mean better experience if there is going to be sutters. On AMD subreddit you can find people seeing high fps but complaining too about this issue on Frostbite engine (Battlefield 6)

On Unreal Engine 5, for example on newer games such as Metal Gear, I have no issue on Intel, an tons of stuttering on AMD. Some friends with 9950X3D or 9800X3D suffer from this.

On DCS and Il-2 I also experienced something similar (but not on that scale). On my Core Ultra (which performs worse than X3D) I have a more pleasant experience as the stuttering breaks the immersion on the AMD, a lot.

Other things that might affect this on Intel systems too might be the system latency. Ram timings, etc. A better ram perforance means better lows and less stuttering.

Of course, this does not mean is going to 100% happen all the time or in all configs, but I had this happening on various machines last year as I built and used at least 4 AMD systems. As always, I am neutral on hardware and have used various configs over this last year. From the newer AMD 9070XT, to the 9950X3D and even the disastrous Intel Core Ultra Launch.

Kind regards,

Stuttering with my 4080s NVIDIA RTX i had not as bad as with my former 3080ti.

In the past i learned stutters were often related to monitor frequency, and i set both  my 4k and normal one to the same 60Hz.

As many now seem to have occasional short blackscreens with NVIDIA and 2 monitors with both at the same time and recent NVIDIA drivers,

since probably a recent windows update and maybe related to some new Automatic Color management function (switch it off??).
