1CGS LukeFF Posted August 1 1CGS Posted August 1 Hey everyone! What will be new with our pilot models in Korea. IL2 Series? Read on to find out! https://il2-korea.com/news/dd_42 13 1
No105_Swoose Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Wow indeed! Very impressed with the high level of detail. Especially amazed by the level of effort that went into modeling the AI B-29 pilot and crew member.
S10JlAbraxis Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Very nice - level of detail is impressive! Really looking foward to this.
BlitzPig_EL Posted August 1 Posted August 1 I hope that this level of detail doesn't lead to deficiencies in other aspects of the sim. This isn't a first person shooter after all.

86Cheese Posted August 1 Posted August 1 You guys have really outdone yourselves here. I'm really getting excited for Korea. This is starting to feel like a truly generational leap in the world that combat sims exist within. Very cool. 3
[CPT]Crunch Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Will it allow for the latitude to place a North Korean pilot into a Mustang as a capture for example?

Trooper117 Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Hopefully the pilots body will be optional while flying...

They start from very high poly models with complex textures, then do a lot of processing to make them into something that can render quickly. Il-2 1946 does allow you to replace the pilot with your own face if you'd like... but that was in the days where graphics were much less (and having a pilot at all in the cockpit was relatively new). 50 minutes ago, Trooper117 said: Hopefully the pilots body will be optional while flying... I'm pretty sure one of the earlier announcements by the devs said that they could be switched off. I could be wrong though. 1

While I appreciate the level of detail in modeling these pilots, it is stunning, I can see where some people will no want give up their rig's processing power on pilots versus all out sim performance. It would be in 1C's best interest to include a toggle for this. S!Blade<><

Kubert Posted August 3 Posted August 3 I can't imagine animated pilot's body in the cockpit from the first person perspective. Did you ever tried to switch to autopilot mid-maneuer in IL-2 GB, let's say when piloting Yak-1? Then you can see as an AI at the same time moves stick, throttle, water radiator, oil radiator...and RPM, mixture and supercharger too if you have them in wrong position. How that would look if pilot should touch all that stuff at once? In that case we don't need pilot in the cockpit, but octopus. 2

It seems that a lot of people hated 'anthropomorphic controls' in Il-2 Cliffs of Dover, but I always loved that feature. P.S. I also liked the (admittedly) unrealistic impact of gee forces on head motion - it was a neat way to cue the player into proprioceptive information that we're missing in simulators but would be present for a real pilot.

=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Same with racing games, but I find animated pilots anti-immersive in VR even if he's making normal human movements. If he's grabbing a radiator or whatever control I'm not reaching for in real life, or if his posture and limbs aren't lined up with mine, it feels dinkier than having no body at all. 3 1
ST_Catchov Posted August 4 Posted August 4 I guess we also need a "hot lips" Houlihan model for those M.A.S.H. moments. Although that may lead the game in an entirely different direction. 2
Mysticpuma Posted August 4 Posted August 4 I think this level of detail is incredible and very welcome, certainly for the Machinima makers amongst us. Maybe the maximum level of detail could be available in a cinema mode? I would suggest that consideration could be made for Nvidia Ansel to be added, to truly showcase and offer media/sharing opportunities with this level of graphics.
Bremspropeller Posted August 4 Posted August 4 (edited) No G1 jackets for the Village Navy and Crayon People? Edited August 4 by Bremspropeller
IckyATLAS Posted August 5 Posted August 5 Wow. I always asked for full body in the cockpit and pilot body motion synchronized with our actions, not only throttle and stick but levers, buttons switches. After so many years it may finally come. If so this will make probably the in cockpit VR experience a top one. I only regret that all these excellent goodies will not be implemented in some of the IL2 GB campaigns. Side note: Maybe we could imagine a WWII campaign but with the new technologies.
BlitzPig_EL Posted August 5 Posted August 5 "Crayon eaters" is a derogatory term for a United States Marine, usually used by members of the other services.
Avimimus Posted August 5 Posted August 5 The intent might have been to reference the song 'In the Navy' which was briefly used as a recruitment video (prior to it being pointed out to the Brass that the Village People have extensive gay/queer subtext in their songs, leading it to be pulled as a recruitment video). It did lead to them being able to dance on a warship apparently. 1
Bremspropeller Posted August 7 Posted August 7 (edited) @LukeFF are there gonna be Navy/ Marines pilot-models wearing G1s as well? Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler It's more of a summer outfit and probably wasn't worn too much by the Navy guys operating from carriers, but it's essential. After all, looking cool is more important than not dying of exposure. Edited August 7 by Bremspropeller 1
1CGS LukeFF Posted August 7 Author 1CGS Posted August 7 Yes, they will have G1 jackets. It was actually shown in a prior dev blog, but just in an unxtextured form: https://il2-korea.com/news/dd_28 1
