Falcon41 Posted July 25 Posted July 25 (edited) I've been a fan of IL-2 since its beginnings and like many of you have found the ME intimidating to say the least. Nevertheless, I've been able to put together a few missions dealing with the exploits of the 99th FS of the 332nd FG, commonly known as the Tuskegee Airmen. I've relied on several publications, e.g., "The Tuskegee Airmen Chronology" by Daniel Haulman, "Red Tails" by John Holway and "332nd FG - Tuskegee Airmen" by Chris Bucholtz to gain an idea of the kind of missions these men undertook. One quickly understands that these young men were not only fighting a determined enemy but were also fighting an equally determined service that only reluctantly agreed to the "experiment" of allowing black pilots to serve. Truly these young men were some of the best of America and deserve to be recognized for all they did. These missions represent some of the kinds of combat they encountered during their deployments in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. I've used Off-Winters wonderful desert MOD, version 8 to represent North Africa, Sicily and Italy on the Kuban map. Using this latest version will allow you to also use some of the great skins he's made for both Luftwaffe and US aircraft. Additionally, I would like to recognize the talents of several skinners who have provided me with skins and information for members of the 99thFS, e.g., Raptor, Viper, and any others whom I've forgotten. These first three missions are provided as a beginning since with the introduction of the new engine for the P-40 it's become a more formatable opponent. Also, the first mission is flown on the Stalingrad map, all remaining missions on the Kuban map with Off-Winters Mod. Comments and suggestions are always appreciated. Falcon41 PS Being unable to figure out how to create a campaign I suggest you play the missions in order, as numbered. Tuskegee Airmen - 99thFS.zip Edited July 25 by Falcon41 additional info 4 5 2

It controls when the campaign ends and it gives you a final score. Tuskegee Airmen.zip @Falcon41, Here are your 1st 6 missions formatted as a campaign. I put placeholder text and images in the correct places as examples for you to copy in the rest of the missions. You have to resave your single missions with "campaign" selected in the mission type drop down list. Other than that, they are exactly the same. If you use the numbering system I used in the Campaign folder, they will stay in order in your mission list. I did notice when I opened the first mission to test the campaign structure that your player flight has Russian default skins and no numbers. Also be aware that there is currently a bug where if you use complex plane flights as static scenery it prevents the airfield landing radio communications from playing. I have reported it already but don't know if or when it will be fixed. Edited July 30 by Jaegermeister 2 1

Further, the P-40 skins created by Raptor found on HSD for the 99th FS of the 332nd FG would have provided the correct skins for these early missions. Thanks for your help with making these into a campaign. I've yet to deal with the later missions but will be trying soon and I hope that if I've any questions I can ask them of you. Thanks again, Bill Edited July 31 by Falcon41 Correction to comment

Thanks again, Bill OK, great! I missed the part about the skins before. I'll be happy to help if you have any more questions. Basically just open your completed missions, change them to "campaign" in the drop down window and resave them with the new numbered naming convention in the "Tuskegee Airmen" campaign folder and you should be good. You may want to put images with them, but that's optional.

Bill I placed an example image in the campaign folder for you, and it currently shows up with the first mission in the GUI interface screen at the start of the mission. It is a 920 pixel wide .png image named the same thing as the mission you want it to appear with in the briefing screen. You can make the image any height you want within reason but it pushes the text off the screen if it is too tall. Edited August 1 by Jaegermeister 2 1

Sorry for interfering your discussion, but the topic is very interesting for me: What is exactly the effect of saving the sp missions as campaign missions? In general in my (not so perfect) campaigns I use single player missions with identical file / mission name with always: YYYY-MM-DDa-[Theatre of war]-[short Mission description] e.g.: 1940-05-14a-BoF-BF109E3-intercept-mission; the ...14a... to number multiple missions per day with a,b,c... The campaigns seem to work with sp missions and the results are added / shown in the awards. So which additional effect has the campaign mission type? maybe the "final score" message that I have never checked? Edited August 2 by kraut1 1
justin_z3r0 Posted August 2 Posted August 2 I'm very interested in playing this one as a campaign. Thanks a lot for making these you guys. It' my preferred way to play.

There was an issue with the IAR-80 Campaign "Little Brother" when they were single missions, but I would have to test it again to be sure. If it's working for you, then maybe not. I'm not sure what other effects it has ATM, because I've never really tried to run a campaign with all the missions being saved as single. 1

Jollyjack, That's correct, you just need the first one you've highlighted. If you like some trees you can also include the third item. Hope you enjoy Falcon41 1

Jaegermeister Posted August 4 Posted August 4 4 minutes ago, Falcon41 said: Jay, How do I go about adding the campaign intro text, as I can't seem to find right location? Bill It's called info.locale=eng.txt in your campaign folder. Just open it in notepad and edit it, but don't use quotation marks in the text. and keep the formatting at the beginning and end. The text in between the start and end quotation marks will show up in the introduction screen.
Billsponge1972 Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Just flew the first three missions. Stellar work! Good stuff Falcon41! Gonna stop and wait for the whole campaign. 🙂
jollyjack Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Played 2, couldn't resist shooting up that colonel. Unfair, got punished for friendly fire. Maybe change that with a behavior command into a mission reward? 1

Bill You could either create a free Dropbox (2GB) or Mediafire (10GB) account to offer downloads. Or alternativly you could publish maybe your missions in parts in 2 or 3 consecutive Replys in your Tuskegee Airmen - 99th FS topic.
