Hello, I've decided to join the party 15 years later and give the IL-2 COD a try. So far, I love it!

I have one little question regarding navigation .. At IL 2 GB, we have a full 360-degree tool to help with navigation.

In the IL 2 COD, the tools is very different and I'm to beginner to understand it!

After spending many hours watching how to fly, start up, and so on, I couldn't find a proper navigation guide.

Take my screenshot as an example, I want to navigate from point A, where I am, to  Boscombe down..  According to the YouTube tutorial, I always draw a line to the north and draw it in the direction I want after. (I turn on the navigation help to understand where I am while I'm training.)

Why is the correct heading to the airfield showing 272 degrees on the compass, but my drawings show that I should be going 92 degrees ??

I'm sure that this is a very silly question, but I cannot understand it :(

Thanks!

I've got the original CloD disc, but when I go to steam and enter my license code it tells me I already have a account under my email address. Nothing I do gets me passed this portion of trying to get it working again so I can fly the Med portion of the sim.

It's a real bummer..

Med portion .. you mean Tobruk i guess.

Tobruk me thinks was a different buy, and integrated with the later version of CLOD.

I bought CLOD first, and later Tobruk.

@Caldeira, 092 is just the reciprocal of 272, so the system in clod happens to be the inverse of what you're used to. You're on the 092 radial from the point in question, which implies that the bearing to that point would be 272. (A radial should be considered FROM unless otherwise specified, and a bearing should be considered TO unless otherwise specified). Personally, as a real life pilot, I find how the protractor/directional finder thingy works in clod as a whole to be completely unintiative and comes across as something not designed by pilots or for pilots. But I'm a modern pilot and have done very little research into navigation in this time period. So maybe this system is related to how it was done back then, which would be cool if true, but I wouldn't be the guy to tell you if it is.

Personally I hardly ever use this feature when navigating in game (maybe I should though, I still get myself lost every now and then). I tend to use "pilotage" far more often. Which is essentially comparing visible landmarks with identifiable landmarks on the map. This is a seperate concept from "dead reckoning", which is using compass headings and a clock to estimate how far along a planned route you must be.

@Hoss, are you asking about how to get the Med add-on to work (tobruk), or how to get clod working period? The original game was a flop rife with bugs. The TFS moded version of the game (blitz) is now a seperate game on steam from the original, and only the TFS version has the Med add-on. Owning the original disc should give you the right to the TFS version for free though. I'm not technically savy enough to assist with that unfortunately, but if worst comes to worst, you could always just buy the TFS version of the game (blitz) on steam. Yeah it sucks to buy something if you could get it for free, but blitz literally costs less than half what my meal out did tonight (inflation sucks...). Of course you'd then still also have to buy tobruk as well to get the Med... but that's well worth it in my opinion.

Sadly you just missed the Steam Summer sale where combined Blitz and Tobruk bundle would have cost you $10 bucks.  Looking at SteamDB its likely to go on sale mid-September.  But I would also search the web for advice on whether there is a route to getting the Steam version and using your CD key.
