II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Yes, and no. The GoPro is on a forehead strap so it is a couple to several inches higher than eye level. It is also a fisheye lens. The framing could be a little thinner but it is what it is. I'm pretty happy with the BOS cockpit and I was one of the biggest complainers on release.
Dr_Molenbeek Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 A compromise could be just to make the bars thinner, couldn't it. Simply the best solution at the moment. Nobody would notice (from outside) and it will make muuuuuuuch better view, definitely.
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 (edited) To really nail the realistic appearence the engine cowling also had to be changed accordingly to the downshift of the refraction (as sby mentioned earlier). Either way this would be the best solution. Sims have always been driven by workarounds since only few things can be simulated accurately with the technical limitations we have. CCLegolasindar Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 The best method is make a bar with one face without texture, transparent (back face culling). This mantain the real frame outside, but simulate the real view inside (simulate the light reflexion), without loss of FPS. The best and easy solution. http://i3.minus.com/i3VoT1u7oJ1T4.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g268/martynball/missing-geometry.jpg~original

It is something that is the least thing possible, so there is not a "limit" with the current cockpit strut thickness which we all have to silently accept. Sure the lower end of the Frame would still not be solved then, but quite better than now at least - with NO loss in FPS. That even this is not even considered is one of the issues that prevented me from happily pre-ordering BoM...
Dr_Molenbeek Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 These are definitely good compromises. BoS however, i'm sorry but there's still some work to do, to reach the point of "good compromise". 5
9./JG1_gunmann Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Nemesis, big thank for your effort despite of developer's explanation, why it can't be incorporated into sim. I studied physics in university and have in fact a doctor degree in plasma physics. However I didn't find any mistake in your conclusions, you are perfectly right and FW-190 should be modified accordingly. 2
Trooper117 Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Great bit of research... An excellent effort, I'm convinced...
KoN_ Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 This FW-190 has been done to death and there is still no change .
1CGS LukeFF Posted June 11, 2016 1CGS Posted June 11, 2016 This FW-190 has been done to death and there is still no change . Because the team is obviously content with how it's currently modeled. Seriously, people, let it go already and just enjoy the game.

MadisonV44 Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 +1 FW 190 as always been my favorite plane. I stopped flying it this month for the first time in 12 years,I will fly her again when "something change" 1
=LG/F=Kathon Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 The team was always content with how things were modeled - until something changed. Good point 1

MrNoice Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 So.... Ive read that the devs answer 2 years ago was "no because of fps drop etc" but now since we have direct x 11 and 64bit I think it shouldnt be a "fps" problem anymore.... Can some dev tell us more about it ? would be nice to have that fixed for realstic reasons... (and noo its not a troll post ) greetings 4
icecream Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 would love to see it re-worked aswell! 1
Tiestilha Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Impressive, I didn't even know that the 190's front glass had that refraction effect, it would really improve the view. Nice work!

GP* Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Sooooo...when is this going to be acknowledged as an inaccuracy? 1
Dakpilot Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Been acknowledged many times, there were discussions from Dev's on the issues with modelling refraction and the complications of having a different inside and outside 3D model The end result if I recall correctly is that currently it is a compromise and later hardware and 3D rendering may allow proper solution, it is also a problem with other aircraft with armoured glass, but perhaps not so pronounced due to more extreme angle on 190 Cheers, Dakpilot

FTC_Kriechbaum Posted July 5, 2019 Posted July 5, 2019 (edited) Any news on this topic in mid 2019? Especially considering we now have several FW 190s + the Me262, all with a similar angled windscreen. Isn't it possible to give the inside of the frame a texture that is displaying it half as thick? With the help of partially transparent textures, just the faces that are inside, touching the glas. Obviously it would not display the refraction regarding the background, but at least the effect of a thinner frame would be available. Edited July 8, 2019 by KB-Kriechbaum 1
G_Schwarz Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 can this be done now, with the new CPUs and GPUs, back when this was asked (2015) hardware was not that powerful, but now i think it can deal with more calculation, and also most CPUs are 8 or more threads (i have a 3900x 24 threads), hope it make it in an update in 2022/2023 best luck and happy new year 1
1CGS LukeFF Posted April 2 1CGS Posted April 2 Always possible, but it's probably going to be some time before 190s are added to the new series.
