deathmisser Posted April 25 Posted April 25 I'm making this thread so I can gauge to see what everyone's hype is for, personally mine is the Commander role as I wonder how supplies and damage models will work since the damage model for aircraft will be higher than in the era of GB. 1
=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted April 25 Posted April 25 All the things. I think the sum will be greater than its parts, and the hype for me is how it all fits together, rather than to pick one part in isolation. 2

BlitzPig_EL Posted April 25 Posted April 25 The Skyraider. If there was ever a plane that fit the BlitzPigs' ethos, it's the Skyraider. 3 3
ST_Catchov Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Phew it's a tough one! Darn you deathmisser! I guess for me it's the role playing in the upcoming career. As part of my research, I've watched the Korean War movie "The Hunters" on numerous occasions and I'm always thrilled. See trailer below. So I'd be like the Robert Mitchum character, strong, heroic, chick magnet and like Jack Fraser could be, for instance, the Robert Wagner character, young, scatterbrained, impetuous, apologetic. You know, something like that. Still working on it. And BSR could play a NK pilot who I shoot down in a thrilling contest in my quest to destroy the commies and bring everlasting peace finally to the world whilst managing the logistics of running a wartime airfield while also maintaining a relationship with that chick as a side hustle. Not easy. So it's a very exciting prospect. Bring it 1C. 1

But as for me commander mode will be interesting to see how far it'll modeled especially with radar and the fog of war taken into account with false reports or delayed reports via ground units. As I mentioned above with aileron wires and tiers now have the ability to have it's own damage model I wonder how long that aircraft will be unusable for. Edited April 25 by deathmisser

Lord_Cool Posted April 26 Posted April 26 The early cold war jets. The sounds and effects of the Me-262 and Ar-234 were nicely done in IL-2 Great Battles, and IL-2 Korea will be more detailed than that. Plus cold war era jets, despite their popularity, are an area that is relatively unexplored, and it will be interesting to fly something with that has higher performance than the typical WW1/WW2 era stuff. 1
Avimimus Posted April 26 Posted April 26 The improvements to ground attack and the deep engine improvements mainly. It'll also be interesting to see Korea (given that it has been 25 years since a flight simulator focussed on it). The thing I'm apprehensive about is actually the air combat... it'll be interesting, but it was an era where aircraft were windowmakers with lots of aerodynamic compromises and I tend to like pre-1943 air combat. It'd probably be more confident in how much I'd enjoy a 1970s sim (e.g. 1967-1982 Arab-Israeli) because the aircraft were flying better by then. We'll see though... as I said, the last sim is 25 years old. I'm also looking forward to the F-84 oddly enough. When I was younger I was a bit obsessed with things like the A-26 and F-82... but I've grown enough to not be completely annoying by always bringing up that they could be added!
=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I like dogfights between thicc planes. Assuming they're similarly matched, the other guys dealing with handling quirks too, which makes for a fun fight.

354thFG_Panda_ Posted April 27 Posted April 27 (edited) I'm looking forward to the graphics upgrades over great battles. We spend a lot of time in the cockpit view and the new detailed cockpit with pbr is going to be really immersive especially with the new sounds. Edited April 27 by 356thFS_Red_Panda 8

Can you imagine what those PBR textures are going to look like on all their future planes? 1
AlexandreCosta Posted April 28 Posted April 28 I just hope it is optimized, I'm sick of modern gaming relying solely on DLSS, frame gen, or whatever just because it is easier for them. 1
Oboe Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Think I'm most interested in the F9F Panther, and possibly carrier ops. But everything I've seen so far looks amazing. 2 2

I'm pretty stoked about the planned Korea Carrier ops too. Would be a nice gaming experience. I hope they do an additional eight-plane-pack for Korea one day. But whether that is on the cards I do not know. I'd like to see additional variants of the F-86 (E and F), the MiG-15 (bis), and the Sea Fury (FB.11).
[CPT]Crunch Posted April 29 Posted April 29 I'm most stoked about the ability to set different flight modes for different levels of controller's. I want to be able to ride the edge of a stall with a stall actually modeled at the edge in advanced mode. Good bye helicopters and rail cars. 1
kestrel79 Posted May 3 Posted May 3 I'm an attack aircraft guy, and this sim is looking like it might be the best for ground attack ever. Between the physics, variety in ground vehicles (targets), and the planeset which features aircraft that car carry a lot of ordinance, I'm pretty excited. 2 3

Avimimus Posted May 4 Posted May 4 8 hours ago, BlitzPig_EL said: The Firefly would be fun. Yes, overall it is like a Skyraider with somewhat worse performance and a guy in the back yelling at you that you're off-course! It would have a similar wing loading, a lower climb rate, and half the bomb load. A bit lighter but with a bit weaker engine and smaller wings - it manages about 30 km/h faster than the Skyraider AD-2 - and 100 km/h faster than the AD-4 (the Skyraider variant we're most likely to get). I'd enjoy it undoubtedly. That said I personally suspect an F-82 or B-26 (with or without gunner stations) would make more sense as a flyable aircraft. However, I do hope that a Firefly is considered as at least a static object with wings folded - if British carriers are included they would look very ahistorical with only Sea Furies on board. So, if we can't get it as flyable, I'd hope for AI. If we can't get it as AI, I'd hope for a static object (parked on a carrier deck). 3
=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted May 4 Posted May 4 The skyraider was made for this engine. With all the ground detail we're getting it would fit perfectly to get a slower plane that's packing the apocalypse on it's wings, and has a bubble canopy to enjoy it's artwork. 7

1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted May 7 Posted May 7 (edited) I'm looking forward for new planes I would be more hyped if Korea would implement technology which gives us aeroelastic behavior and soft body damage as competition will. Rigid body damage model is a standard but I would like to see this technology not only in BmG drive 😉 Edited May 7 by 1PL-Husar-1Esk 1 1

Avimimus Posted May 21 Posted May 21 6 hours ago, Jackfraser24 said: Good to know. I hope we get both the MiG-15 and MiG-15Bis. We'll see. The good thing is that, from what I gather, the Mig-15Bis was the first to serve in Korea and some remained in service until the end of the war (with the earlier Mig-15 being introduced near the end by Chinese squadrons). Migs were rare enough and the differences in performance are small enough that it probably doesn't make that much of a difference. I'd personally prefer an AI A-26/B-26 to escort or intercept if it was a choice between the two. Feel free to convince me otherwise though! 1
AEthelraedUnraed Posted May 21 Posted May 21 The main thing I'm stoked for is probably flying the MiG. It's the most badass looking plane of all times IMO. Then there's all the updates in scenery, graphics, AI etc. which I'm also really looking forward to On 5/7/2025 at 11:05 AM, 1PL-Husar-1Esk said: I would be more hyped if Korea would implement technology which gives us aeroelastic behavior and soft body damage as competition will. Rigid body damage model is a standard but I would like to see this technology not only in BmG drive 😉 I would certainly *like* that, but I don't think it's realistic for the next few decennia. Simulations like these are usually something you spend a day or something computing, on a decent computer. Not something you can calculate within 20ms on a gaming PC. Of course you can take a few shortcuts, which I should note gets a lot easier if you're working with cars where air friction is a relatively minor force. However if you're simulating planes, everything has some kind of effect somewhere else and the shortcuts you can normally take won't work any more. You can of course make even bigger concessions to physics to get something of the kind, but then the question arises whether it's even worth it, or if you'd rather have the development time (per plane!) spent on things that are more likely to be noticed by the average player.
Aapje Posted May 21 Posted May 21 (edited) @Mtnbiker1998 The very same game engine will be used for Pacific modules, and you will get your carriers, wildcats, zeros, etc. Quote you aren't winning in the graphics department (You won't beat MSFS 2024) A strange comparison, because MSFS is based on modern day satellite/plane data, which can only be used to create a modern representation of the world, and can never recreate a map set during WW 2, or the Korean war. MSFS also doesn't allow for combat. Quote I'm hyped for Combat Pilot Which is very far from release, and most of your hype is thus based on hope. Of course you are free to be hyped for whatever product you want, but to me your comment seems totally unrealistic, based on a lack of knowledge, and believing that all your dreams will come true in a product that is so early in development that you can pin all kinds of unrealistic expectations on it. This kind of hype almost inevitably sets you up for disappointment, once the actual product is released, and it inevitably turns out to not measure up to your completely unrealistic expectations. SupremeLoser Posted June 3 Posted June 3 To me the biggest thing is the new underlying simulation engine coupled with the beautiful sound and graphics and how that will bring the simulation and VR to the next level. It just keeps getting closer and closer to look and feel like you are flying the real thing. I think it will be truly amazing! I will be happy just flying in the "old" F-51D Mustangs at that point even. But then to get into the seat, and feel it, in the hotrod fighters of that time... the F-86 and Mig-15, is going to be something else! I have been enjoying the increase in performance with IL-2 with the planes and also the way the planes fly and feel for years now and this is going to be a really nice big step. I'm hopeful with some other aircraft being added along the way. To me, the aircraft is what it is mostly about... though I really thoroughly enjoy new beautiful scenery. For example, with the current IL-2 I was super stoked when they added Paris to the Flying Circus. I spend a lot of time just enjoying flying over Paris and the surrounding region in my Spad or even P-51D! One of the aircraft I really would love to see, other than of course the included Corsair, is the Sea Fury! I have to fly one of those beasts. And many, many other planes too. The other early jets will be neat to try out too. And the latest iteration of the Russian prop planes (Yaks and the like). 1
