I'm trying to figure out if using a modifier is possible in IL2, WITHOUT using a third party app such as joy-to-key or TARGET. I have a TARGET profile made for IL2, it works (yeah I know if it ain't broke don't fix it) but I would like to NOT use TARGET as it is a PITA to change any key binding.

What I would like to do is use my pinky button on the joystick (not the paddle, the button S3) as a modifier, so if that button is pressed concurrently with a second button, a different function is performed than if I just press the second button.

In DCS there is a function which allows a button to become either a modifier (button has to be pressed and held to set the modifier action, when released the modifier ceases and keys are normal) or a switch (button is pressed to toggle the modifier action, if pressed again the modifier ceases and keys are normal).

Something like this is what I'm looking for, so far, no luck, as when I attempt to bind BOTH keys onto a function, IL2 won't allow it and shows only the last key pressed.

Hello,
If you'd be so kind as to share that target file I'd be most appreciative sir.
Thanks in advance.

This TARGET gui file uses 2xCougar MFDs, 1xThrustmaster Warthog joystick, 1xThrustmaster Warthog Throttle, 1xThrustmaster TPRS. It may not work for you as I have had to reassign many keybinds to make it work. I'll send you what I have though, you will likely need to edit the keybinds in-game to make this work. The reason for the highly edited keybinds is the way that IL2 sees key presses, the edits were done to make sure that button presses do not conflict with unintentional key presses (for example b in the normal game releases bombs, in this file its RSHIFT q, so if I decide to change the salvo (RSHIFT b in the TARGET file) IL2 doesn't drop bombs).

It's been a while since I did up this file, so not sure if I can remember how and why I did some of the changes! Good luck!

@fubar_2_niner see above. If you also do a search, you will find the original files I posted a few years ago.

You can also search for @[VAF]HomeFries TARGET profile, it is another solution.

Thanks ever so sir.
I do have HomeFries profile, however I assume it's way out of date now. He seems concentrated on DCS.
For what it's worth, I figured I'd have to do some editing, I now use an AVA base instead of the default warthog stick base. Don't own the cougers either, would love them but with LCD screens ( I do not have the knowledge to build those lol ).

Many thanks again @WWDarkdiz

Not sure if he has updated it, I can find out though.

The Cougars in the file I generally use for stuff that I don't need IMMEDIATE access to, those functions are on the Joy/Thr. I'll add a pdf of the key assignments and where they are on each.

@WWDarkdiz

Sorry I've not replied before. Been away for a while in Ireland.
Thanks very much for the above mate, really very much appreciated. If you are in contact with @HomeFries it would be nice to know if he still works on it. I always used it up until the updates seemed to stop.

Regards

Read the manual. The In/Out function of the S3 button is easy to enable. It can be Toggled or Un-toggled, i.e. push it and release and it stays toggled, or untoggled you have to hold it to execute your modifier.  You also have Up/Middle/Down function on the throttle three position switch, Middle being the default along with Out on the S3. So you have Out/Middle as default .. Out/Up... Out/Down... In/Middle.... In/Up... In/Down variations to program. It's child's play...if you RTFM....
