taffy2jeffmorgan Posted February 28 Posted February 28 Hi All, For no apparent reason my IL-2 will not start, I start the usual prosses to open the sim, I click enter but as soon as the main hanger scene is displayed I am dumped back to my desktop screen, have tried the re-boot a few times but to no avail ? Help Cheers.
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted February 28 Author Posted February 28 Not sure if this is important and could have caused the problem, but I recently downloaded and installed " Jolly Jack's Nightly Bombardment 1944 Scheveningem sp mission It was when I went to check to see that the mission had installed correctly that the problem started ? so I went into files and deleted the above, but the problem still persists
HotPursuit Posted February 28 Posted February 28 Same thing happened to me recently! My problem was that the last time I played I was flying an official scripted campaign and the file that saves your progress was somehow corrupted. By deleting this file: IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles \data\swf\il2\usersave\8caf00bf-3b9c-4df0-a7da-06a9a18f25a8\campaign\campaignsstates.txt I was able to start the game. Of course I lost all progress in all of the scripted campaigns. Fortunately I had a recent backup that saved the day....
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted February 28 Author Posted February 28 If needed is there a step by step instruction or a tutorial on how to delete and re-install BoS
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted February 28 Author Posted February 28 If it comes to the point were I am going to have do a reinstall, which I have never done before, do I just delete by using my Windows 10 control panel [windows and features] and in my downloads I have an app called IL-2 great battles setup, so just open that and let it do its work. When and if the reinstall is successful will I just have the basic up to date latest version plus all my maps which I have obtained over the years. Cheers
claw Posted February 28 Posted February 28 (edited) I have this since mid December. Did everything I could find and Customer Support advised: ran SFC, ran Dism, did a memory check, ran a CPU check, Updated every possible driver, reinstalled Il2 several times (on different drives), changed powersettings in BIOS, even reinstalled Windows (twice). No result. Haven't played this game in a long while now. I wish you luck and hope you fare better than me. (no consolation at all but you're not alone). Edited February 28 by claw
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted February 28 Author Posted February 28 Thanks Claw, So did you experience this out of the blue ! one minute everything is working fine and then for no reason you are unable to enter and fly this superb fight sim. I have been flying IL-2 since day one, and been a member of the forum since 2012, lets hope that help is on the way !!! 1
czech693 Posted February 28 Posted February 28 (edited) I would hold off on a IL-2 reinstall. Did you install the mission components manually or use JSGME? After you deleted it, it may have left something behind that causes the glitch. I wanted to look at the components of the mission file but I can't find it in Single Mission on this forum. Is that where you got it? EDIT: Okay, I found it. There are four files in the mission folder. Did you delete them all? Also, you could try re-installing the mission and see if it works. Sometimes an install misses a file or accidently corrupts it during the install process. EDIT 2: It's not in JSGME format. I put it in JSGME format and installed the mission and ran it. It runs and did not jimmy my IL-2 sim. lf you're not using JSGME I suggest you do because it makes it easier and more accurate installs. Here's a link to the mission in JSGME format. Installing it this way may overwrite any previous installs as I suspect your install was not in the correct locations. https://www.mediafire.com/folder/1xtiimh2dh1ds/Scheveningen+Harbor+bombing+v6c Edited February 28 by czech693
AEthelraedUnraed Posted February 28 Posted February 28 @taffy2jeffmorgan do you use the Steam version or standalone?
jollyjack Posted February 28 Posted February 28 (edited) If something is not well with IL2 i usually start by removing all mods, if jsgme or OvGME installations i'll use that. Then delete or rename the updates folder and start the Launcher, usually fixes corrupted files. With the above mission testing i had no installed mods. For Steam alas i don't know how to run it's file checker. Edited February 28 by jollyjack
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 Thank you all, I shall check all that has been suggested.
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 I have reinstalled the mission files but the problem persists so located the four files and deleted them but still will not work ?, I was wondering if a Windows restore may help, I am running IL-2 as normal and not through Steam, and if none of this works would a complete reinstall be the way to go ? And what will I see after a reinstall, all my maps and all campaigns and missions supplied as part of all the updates ? I suppose It would not harm and perhaps It could all do with a good clean out. I would just like some advices regards the deleting and reinstalling of IL-2 Cheers All
HotPursuit Posted March 1 Posted March 1 Did you try deleting campaignsstates.txt file after backing it up? It was stopping my game from starting up. No need to delete your il2 game. If you have lots of disk space you can have multiple installs of the game on your pc. A clean install would be updated to the latest version, so all official maps and campaigns you own will be there. You could copy over your controller files from your current non working version if you want. (In Game\data\input) To download the game Login on the website, go to Account, Profile page. The game installer d/l link is the last option in the red square. It's 160Mb Run the installer. The game will update to the latest version (this will be a big download). It will be very interesting to see if a clean install will run for you.

Thanks for all the help and info, would it be better to completely uninstall my current version and then install new game via the IL-2 game installer which I have just downloaded and start afresh ?
HotPursuit Posted March 1 Posted March 1 I wouldn't uninstall it at this stage (if you have the disk space). It won't conflict with a fresh install in another location. If you have to uninstall you should first backup your controls, views, third party campaigns, mods etc.
Art-J Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Something different to consider as well: was there a Windows update or NVidia driver update done on friday? There are reports out there of latest NV drivers causing various older game crashes amongst some users.

That will make the game check all files and re-download corrupted ones. A reinstall should not be necessary.
