Climate, vegetation, and land use in 1950s Korea

This topic keeps coming up - so I thought it'd be reasonable to have a dedicated thread for it.

Some of the topics raised in the past:

- Distribution of wet-field (rice paddy), and dry-field crops varies regionally in Korea

- It has been suggested that grazing areas were larger in the 1950s

- There was a drought in Korea during the early 1950s

As no one has posted anything in this thread, I’ll post this one picture that describes the overall scenery in Korea in 1950’s.  This photo is from Taegu Airfield. Dec 1950.

I hope that green scenery in the Korea video teasers is just place holder and would change in final product.

It is a bit of a challenge, as a lot of maps don't really distinguish well between different types of agriculture. Korea has both dry-field and rice-field/paddy agriculture - so it will be important to have both.

There have also been a lot of changes in land use since the 1950s (and the drought in the 1950s has also been mentioned - something I've confirmed existed).

Korea also has very different biomes - and it would be good if they could do something similar to what the team did with the Moscow map (from Sangheon Yi, 2011):

One can see how both latitude and altitude have a major effect on vegetation.

Ideally, I'd hope for at least three or four different kinds of frest:

- deciduous broadleaf forest

- conifer forests

- shrub/scrublands

- subalpine/high altitude

Along with human altered tilesets:

- dry-field

- rice-field

- pastoral/grazing

...and the town/city tilesets already shown.

Yes, and as I said before, too many and too dense trees for 1950s Korea.

@Juri_JS

They've already explained that the demo map is not the Korea map, and apparently they are not yet ready to show the Korea map. There is no point in complaining until they do so.

I kind of agree Trooper117, but this might be a chance to be able to run a Centurion, probably my favorite tank of all time.

Note lack of trees.

The foliage in some of these pics is pretty dense, but it is sparse in others.

Love those pictures. This was my Father's war, and he was a track operator so I really appreciate the non-aviation related images.

Even this small set of photos shows areas which are barren, forested, and areas with scrub (bushes / short trees).

It's good that the historical map had lots of variation, it'll make the map feel like having multiple maps instead of having it all be uniformly green or scorched or w/e.
