Hi all,

  1. Has anyone ever tried to use the lock/unlock key commands to get the FW 190 tailwheels to lock. Pulling back on the joystick works great for this but while taxing I find I am pulling back a bit more than I would prefer. Minor thing I know. Just curious if anyone ever tried to accomplish the lock with the key commands, or is it hardcoded to use the stick?
  2. Do a lot of you folks upgrade the A3 variant with the outer wing 20mm cannons? - I usually don't but was curious what others did or what was the most common practice in real life?

Thanks - JG123410.

No, I don't believe you can change the behaviour of the tailwheel lock. It works as it did in the real aircraft with the stick back.

The outer wing cannons as I understand tended to be fitted to squadrons that were typically flying fighter operations, less so for the those that were becoming fighter-bomber oriented groups. That may be less of a A-3 model specific thing but I've tended to operate that way in online scenarios. Yes with fighter sweeps, no when I'm loaded down with a bomb or bombs.

Thanks SharmrockOneFive !

All of that makes sense. I appreciate the insight.

That's correct for all Jabo versions of the FW190. When fitted with bombs or rockets, the outer guns were usually removed to reduce weight and stress on the wings. The extra cannons may have been added if they were assigned to intercept bombers. I'll see if I run across anything about that.

For online use, the extra cannons will slow you down slightly in a climb and reduce roll rate, but the firepower of 4x 20's is pretty devastating when you get hits and there is a lot of ammunition.

@jg123410 re the tail lock: you may be able to assign the pitch axis to button or keys and the hold that particular key/button when on the ground.

EDIT: @LukeFF says it won't work with a button, most likely cause you can't assign button/keys to a flight control axis (I thought you could).

I have however set up an Xbox controller to work with the elevator axis before. So maybe it is possible to assign two input devices to pitch, your main stick and a mini analogue stick a rotary/slider/mouse wheel etc

You may then be able to adjust the axis offsets of the mini stick to always provide nose up pressure after moving it an initial amount so you don't have to hold it.

Then for master plan to work, moving the main stick would reset the other input to zero.

Just an idea, can't test it atm

Getting even more complicated, you could then possibly make the pitch axis offset so that it is always holding back the in game stick after you have held pressed the button past a certain limit. Then when you want to take off, moving your joystick will override the keys/button axis.

The above would deffo work with a mini analogue stick.

Just an idea

Won't work - you can't lock the tailwheel with a pushbutton in the 190.

What about it bothers you to keep the stick pulled back?   Is it because you're still holding it back when the plane starts to lift?

Hi FeuerFliegen,

It doesn't bother me a whole lot, but it's actually when I am landing. I don't have rudder pedals so I use the rudder assist option in settings to work the rudder a bit on landing. So having to keep pulling back a bit on the stick while doing that was just something new for me.

I was more curious if I could set it and forget it kind of thing. I know that's probably not very realistic. Funny thing is, I am starting to get used to it :) I enjoy flying the FW 190 very much!
