current mood apathy

its happening with all the things I used to love, many different sim types (driving, flying, trains, subs ect ect) it feels like the entire sim space and entertainment world in general is full of those blissfully unaware of The Dunning-Kruger effect. and counter to your knee jerk reaction no I'm not pointing exclusively at the TFS team. the world in general to me seems full of retards screaming at each other (occasional chief retard here) most are too dumb (on both sides) too understand what's going on and the other half don't care.

in a nutshell I'm half ashamed about some of the stances I've taken and defended, I'm also half pissed off to the back teeth that those that pissed me off essentially baited me into caring about projects that either never existed or stalled out for a heap of reasons (normally cause they're shit people). lol don't get me started on star wars 🤣

and so the result is total apathy (occasional bouts of silliness aside)

I'm not starting a hate mob for TFS here I just want to know if there's a similar lack of enthusiasm out there from what I'd consider are my peers

on second thoughts lets not discuss TFS or CLoD at all on this thread.

 (that's if its not locked)

I don't really have apathy, hard as it may be to believe, I actually am excited about what FaF will bring to CloD.

Even now I consider CloD as the best flight sim available, but currently, after all these years, it's like Carbon, the current version is Graphite, but there is the possibility of Diamond formation :)

Time, sadly, is the issue and all we can do is wait....and wait....and wait.

I would say this month the likes of @paul_leonard, @Soto_Cinematics and undoubtedly @batmacumba have made a sterling effort to engage with the community and that certainly brings with it the hope that things are actually happening, compared to the radio silence and static noise as the end of December approached for the v6 release.

I have plenty of other things going on to fill my time, but it's nice to see news/input/consideration from those named above, as it's nice to feel the team still remember that there is a community waiting for news and updates, in fact it's nice to think they remember we exist :)

So no apathy here....just biding my time and crossing my fingers...and hoping all those small things (lots visual) will get a polish and make the game look as good as it can possibly be.

I'm just numb. 4 years and nothing. To say the least, completely disappointed that essentially no meaningful updates have been released and apparently none will be until FAF is complete. 2025? 2026? 2027? I will believe it is released when I am downloading it, if I buy it.

Hey, heads up budy!

I'm 100% share your feelings about the sims and the world too! We have to learn to swim with the tide and find a few things in which we find joy. From my point of view sims and especially CloD is one thing I enjoy much, but not the only one!

The people is definitely a harder one. I don't have a good solution for that, but here is something what I learned from the last 4 years: don't start a chat on social media, it's completely pointless! Speak with others only personally in those topics what you are good at, and that is all what you can do for the world.

So the world is not a happy playground, but not the bottom of the hell too. We all have good and bad periods in life, but also the bad periods don't last forever.

I know it, I'm 43 and Hungarian 😁

I'm enjoying watch the people who gave me grief years ago change their tune as they realise I was right all along. So no apathy here.

Can you remind what you are refering to by saying that?

I do remember you generating quite a lot of real bug reports and useful feature request to the team that did not had access to source code to implement all of them at that time. That gave you grief?? Or I'm missing something?

You are definitely missing something,  lol.

What CLoD has become, under the 'guidance' of TF - these last ten years plus, is actually the vision and effort of one man. I'm not talking about Buzzsaw btw.

A long time ago CLoD became 'captured' by TF and it became a case of 'my way or the highway'. There have been other groups and individuals along the way who have either tried to do something with CLoD or offered help but they haven't got very far within the closed group who have been running the show.

The slow pace of development has been a symptom of this capture.

That and the fact that the game engine itself has been hamstrung by poor decisions made early in it's creation by the original developers that made it unviable as a commercial proposition.

Unfortunately for CLoD, this slow pace has allowed the world to pass it by as far as Combat Flight sims are concerned.

Sounds like kidnapping 😄

What other groups??? How it happened that one group can do something and other can't? Software is not a natural resource .. it can be copied. Right?

Well, looking to how things ended up with 1946 and/or Flight Gear - "My way or highway" does not sound like something bad :)

Regards to 1946. Ended up with a fragmented community sticked to different mods? No, I think that is not a desirable condition.

If you read the ATAG forums from years back, one of their team managed to hack the CloD .dll, and so they controlled access to any modding. Other groups offered to help, like ACG and SoW, but ultimately, ATAG controlled the development and those from ACG and SoW who did join TFS, were removed after the access they needed to help was refused.

That as a very, very brief history.

So, what made it impossible for other groups to hack the DLL and do their own CloD with all the whistles and bells?

They didn't have Colander.

This sounds like, if there is no "Colander" in team, team can't make a "CloD" with all the bells and whistles. Well, TFS has... So, then this means they can do a CloD with all the whistles and bells.

What I see, TFS decided to do a CloD of their dream and they do.

Jason decided to do a sim of his dream and he does.

All that blah blah about closed doors seems like a lame excuses.

Can any one name a successful game with multiplayer and open source code or at least open SDK or modding tools????

Oh, well, I just remembered DCS with few decent mods.

Anything else?

I don't know what point you are making. You asked why others hadn't done it, well maybe because TFS are doing CloD, this is a CloD forum, why would we be discussing other teams making other Flight Sims?

I've already said from my point of view, the addition of new team members has certainly added what appears to be a much needed breath of fresh air, not only to development but also communication.

It appears you are trying to create an argument or at least animosity, which isn't working with me, maybe others will have a different take.

Either way, crack on...not interested any more.

Nope.. I do not need that, I do not want that.

I wrote a question there to RedDog:

DD_Arthur decided to reply to few words in that question originally addressed to RedDog.

So, I asked him a question in reply to his message

And then for some reason you decided to answer to question that was addressed to DD_Arthur.

So, as a result I have two question unanswered by RedDog and DD_Arthur I were asking them in first place.

Conversation with you I was trying to end on a good note about my vision of bright future of CloD in hands of TFS (and CP in Jason's and others who doing their air combat sims too). But you decided to accuse me in "trying to create an argument or at least animosity".

Oh, may be you are referring to this: "All that blah blah about closed doors seems like a lame excuses." ???
Well, there are many new faces in TFS. That is why I wrote that :)

It's really too long a story and not entirely worth rehashing. My original comment should have been clear enough without elaboration.

lovely reply mate , thanks for the encouragement.

in my day to day I play with trains all day ( real full size functional locomotives, steam, diesel and a few electrics) and often times train people don't like to talk about anything other than trains. so finding anyone else to discuss Sims with is a little tough 🤣 (unless its Train Sim World and those of us who drive the real things know that game is a load of bollocks 🤣)

anyway thanks again, I'm looking forward to visiting your land soon. got a lovely little railtour next year traveling around Hungary on old British diesel locos

Apparently since TSW announced it's Thomas and Friends expansion their forums have gone into meltdown; perma bans, allegations of holocaust denial, etc...
