We all know it is there. We all suffer. And no reaction from 1C Game Studios.

Are you running the game off of an SSD or an older style harddrive? I had it on a conventional drive for ages till around a year to a year and a half ago, and suffered awful freezes all the time. I finally moved my install to an SSD and the freezes are no longer an issue, on my end at least.

Ive always run successivly faster SSDs during my time with GB. For me the freezes are there but are largely resultant from large cities and the manner in which they have been produced on maps starting at Rhineland which co-incided with the way in which the devs "shortcut" how they did things. From what I can see things no longer render and graduate through successive LODS indivudually or in small groups as they hit the edge of a player "bubble" but now do so in large sections causing a stutter in either the VRAM or RAM as they load.

Right now, I don't even know what you're talking about. A "freeze" generally means that the game turns completely unresponsive, or even CTDs. IL2 is actually one of the most stable games I've ever played, with perhaps 1 crash every 100 hours or so. So if this is what you mean with "freezes," then no, it I don't know it is there at all.

If you mean "stutters," then there's lots of different versions of stuttering too. There's microstutters in VR, stuttering caused by framerate drops, stuttering if a certain effect is loaded (e.g. tracers), stutters if a city is loaded, stutters if there's too many AI around, and whatnot. I suppose you could call ghosting in VR "stutters" too, if you stretch your definitions far enough.

why

Supposing you mean stutters when loading a city (which isn't clear at all from your post), @BOO has already given you the "why". With the remark that the Rheinland/Normandy maps don't render cities any differently than Kuban and earlier maps; it's just that the cities are (much) bigger while at the same time they're more detailed. Things like this (i.e. changing LODs and loading stuff) are always a tradeoff between various performance metrics, where loading issues are only one side of the story. Rest assured that if there was any easy fix, the Devs would have fixed it long ago.

So either buy a faster SSD, or wait for Korea where they've completely changed the graphics engine, likely making it possible to solve issues like this as well.

We shall have to disagree.

The tools with which something is created tell absolutely nothing about how the end result works ;) You can load the Rheinland_Cities.Group file in the Mission Editor and have a look at it; there's nothing inherently different from, let's say, the BoS equivalent Stalingrad_ALL_Towns.Group. The block files themselves aren't much different either, except that the Rheinland/Normandy buildings are more detailed and that their cities are much more densely populated than the Russian ones.

There's a good chance he means this:

Not technically a crash, but it has the same end and is very old and well known. AFAIK no ones knows what causes it, so unless it gets fixed by accident its here to stay.

I stand corrected.

Jay @jay2cent released this video on his youtube that might explain one of the culprits for microstutters. He also shows one solution that might help some of you, and even explain and fix some loosing periferals (mouse and keyboard etc.) when playing. If that is the case than it can´t be a game issue.

My game freezes when any vehicle falls or drives into a river, like when crossing a destroyed bridge.

Hitting the ESC key continues the game.

I have to be careful when building missions in order to avoid this problem.

Hi, can you post a crashing mission, i'll check it on my system and report back.

Specs of your PC and windows version might be also helpful, just in case.
