Best system of updates that I've seen from a developer. Thanks and keep it coming. Pre-ordered the premium.

uuuffff...I might break down and finally get a TiR setup - but scuba goggles for a flight sim - negatory

I don't care if after all the barfing it IS an omg moment...slaving your eyes to a rolling environment while your inner ear is telling you that you are in a chair in your den or whatever

is bad enough - but subjecting family members and friends to the marriage ending display of grampa sitting there oblivious to his surroundings for hours on end, so totally absorbed in

his own artificial world that.....errm well - ok so thats already happening...f'sakes

my point is -

As soon as you have your TiR system you don't want to fly without it anymore. So much more immersive.

Or instead of buying TrackIr you d/l Freetrack and make your own device like I and many others did. Not that much work and it will cost you a couple of dollars for some wires and 3 LED lights.

If you don't want to sit in front of your screen with a 3 point clip attached to your baseball cap, on your headset or glasses then download FaceTrackNoIr.

The only thing you need to have for that is a webcam and some light shining on your face from the outside window or lamplight.

Just a suggestion. :)

As Uufflakke said. Once you try out the TIR or similar system, flying without it is so dull. I flew a long time with the POV hats but after I got myself TIR there has been no turning back. And I bet Oculus Rift will be one of those things again, once you get used to it there is no other option

If 777 can design a good UI, and Oculus can add a few more counter Drift methods, this will be the truth, as of now the drift when playing is bad, after chasing a plane in a turn fight, you look back to see that looking straight has you 10-15 degrees off to the laft or right.  No biggie for now, but they will need a "recenter" mechanic similar to track IR.

Some people on the Oculus forums have even taking this version to be called the Oculus Drift.  lol  All in due time  Track IR sucked real bad at first too.

Is it just me, or does one engine of the Pe-2 looks larger than the other...   :russian_ru:

I joke, of course.  :)  I thought this at first too, but it seems the lens is rather wide angled (possibly a phone camera); take a look at the perspective on the monitor.

Looking at pic more closely, seems the the other side is under some kind of a magnification. Rudder and stuff are also bigger. Maybe working on something there thus zoomed in? Just a guess.

I shouldn't worry to much about it. Besides the engine one of the tails is bigger than the other.

Typically a lense issue. Or a zoomed in part of that side of the plane in his 3D program.

We should not overanalyse these images. The longer you watch the more you seem to see. ;)

One thing though I'm glad to see are the 2013 desk calenders they have in front of them.

So they are constantly aware of the deadline. When things need to be finished before release date. :P

thanks for the update .. .

+infinity X infinity on Track IR . . . I got used to mine (TR 4) really fast. To me the advantage of track IR is just as big kb / mouse to actual good joystick for flying sims.

hopefully the occulus rift nausea thing can be fixed. But I'm thinking it'll take some time.

I'm really sensitive to it. I can't even watch 3D movies because the 3D glasses put this shady black spot in my vision or my dominant eye throws it off so I see 2 things happening and the over lay of 3D isn't happening.

I know someone at the Navy's spawar and they have the mil spec version of the occulus rift thingy . . .  theirs is so immersive and real, but half the pilots suffer from some degree of nausea and in all of them the spatial disorientation happens much faster (than normal night flying).

That one is several (many) generations ahead of the rift, it has features like virtual kb / cockpit buttons / levers and read hand motion to activate the virtual cockpit in the goggles and can read the location of your eye ball and position the HUD so it doesn't get in the way of sighting.

But the nausea issue is far from fixed  .. .

Take dramamine for the nausea. It might help, probably won't, but it'll sedate your CNS so you will be an easier target.

I hope in the next Dev Update they show us some unexpecting, surprising new Work In Progress.

Last week we have been spoilt with lots of cam footages of the USS Hornet event (many thanx and credits to Hooves!!!) and looking at the low number of comments of this update I guess we all hoped for more or at least something different to be shown.

As this sim is called Battle of Stalingrad I think it is about time now to show at least something of the city of Stalingrad.

We all know an essential plane like the Ju-52 is nót included and a plane that did not take part the FW-190 will be added.

So convince us doubters to pre-order the sim.

All in Due time. I'm sure that whatever they release will only be so because it is somewaht "finished". In time. :)

It makes me feel good that there are people just as geeky/nerdy about WW2 airplanes as I am. I'm more of a Luftwaffe specialist though.

...

With the Antenna Mast Offset to Port, the RPK-2 Antenna Housing and the absence ot the VUB-1 turret , I guess the Pe-2 on this picture is from the series 87.

We really don't know if Fw 190's didn't participate in BoS. We KNOW they were in service in the area starting in September 1942 and we know those were of JG 53 which were used in the Battle of Leningrad and units flying the Fw 190 continually moved south to support the Army. So its possible some did.

IL2 attacking some ground targets would be nice to see in next DevDiary or even better He-111 level bombing :)

Oh my! :o: You've been taking wikipedia at face value again, haven't you? For starters: JG 53 never parted with the Bf 109 throughout the whole war and I./JG 53 (the only of its Gruppen engaged in the Stalingrad campaign) was transfered to Sicily at the end of September 1942. Two - the only Fw 190 units on the Eastern Front in the timeframe of BoS (November - December) were I./JG 51 (from September on) and III./JG 51 (from December on) - both of which were operating in the central part of the EF far away from Stalingrad.

if this game does not allow easy full mission building and does not have at least 200 moving ground objects it will have trouble expanding

Bingo.

Hey Thor what about the 110? I have to imagine they were in use at Stalingrad?

Remnants of ZG 1 were still active but the previous fighting had taken a considerable toll of them.

Hi all,

I really never post anything in her because all I would like to say is most likely already been stated by others.
So basically I just keep track of what 's going on regarding BoS and keep my mouth shut.
Just want to say from all I've seen so far: looks totally amazing, especially the footage of Loft showing lighting effects and
the video in which abortedman gives the game a good go also shows some nice features.

I just read this:

You're right! It LOOKS larger!

exactly. may I add: wide angle lens issue.

Cheers to all
and team: good job!

I've never said that it IS larger. Only that it LOOKS larger. I pretty well understand the reason ;)

i think he means appendix B

didnt know that I/JG 5, II/JG 5, III/JG 5 and IV/JG 5 operated over Stalingrad like i see in this document.

Is this LUFTWAFFE ORDER OF BATTLE in appendix B just for area over Stalingrad as the name of document states (LUFTWAFFE TACTICAL OPERATIONS AT STALINGRAD 19 NOVEMBER 1942-02 FEBRUARY 1943) ?

I know, but read appendix A:

"The Geschwader usually operated in a particular sector with its Gruppen dispersed quite widely on various airfields; but it was not uncommon to encounter Gruppen or even Staffeln on detached service hundreds of miles from the parent Geschwader, according to the requirements oflocal circumstances or training and replacement needs."

And that is what happened.

@Yaklover:

Your avatar...

I was thinking about the plane actually.

By the way, have you noticed how many of us use an animal in our avatar (including me)?

For a flight sim I expected more planes and such.

Just scroll this page for instance and you know what I mean. ;)

Why animals? I guess animals epitomise grace, beauty, speed, and strength, a tenacious will to live, thrive and survive. They also demonstrate a perfection in design that an aircraft designer can only dream of achieving.

Depending on how you look at it animals are the work of God or the end product of 4 billion years of evolutionary prototyping. How long have aircraft been around? 110 years? Even today they are a clumsy attempt at engineering and even the best designers and engineers are humbled by the elegant simplicity of the works of nature.

Also a lot of the animal motifs (like my own) are aviation based.

OH! Good update by the way!

Nope. It's probably one of those cobbled-together things that popped up in the years after the war. It certainly mixes a number of things.

I, generally, would not take that document as more than a collection of recollections of people who had been there. The data base that was available at the time it was written is nothing like it is today ...

Insane, the best ever seen. I've a very good feeling for this autumn.

I hope there is some way to skin your pilot but I suspect there will not be. Not sure if this is possible in RoF.

Posted

Skinning the pilot's face without beeing able to alter its shape is rather senseless.
