Full Mission Builder, a wind bug ?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

In the Full Mission Builder, when I place an aircraft on an airfield with "Player" ticked in Object (so that I will fly it in mission), with the options ‘Idle’ or ‘Spawn Parked’ ticked (I haven’t tried with the ‘Scramble’ option), when Average wind speed is > 0 and the wind direction is different from where the aircraft points at the start of the mission, the mission starts with the plane slowly turning by itself, then it stops doing that after a while. This is even more surprising with the ‘Spawn parked’ option as the engine is off, the plane is immobile and rotates on itself.

It seems to me that the plane does that in order to exactly face the wind. However, by doing that, it doesn’t face the runway anymore, so that you have to turn around to take off.

When the Average wind speed is = 0 or the wind comes from where the aircraft points at the start of the mission (that is when the wind and the airstrip are aligned), then the plane does not turn.

(Btw my joystick and rudder work fine.)

Is it a known bug ?

Do I miss something ? Is there something I can do to avoid it ?

I’d like to add wind in my mission. And this is not immersive to see your plane spinning by itself 'without' reason at the start of each mission you made.

I believe there's a problem with lack of ground friction in the game so your plane turns freely into the wind like an unsheeted sail.

Thanks for the feed-back, Dawson.

Has anyone already experienced it when using the FMB ?

I have the same issue. Maybe some more experienced mission builders have a way around it.

Hello @Athos1660, for better assessment please provide the mission file [*.mis] and, if there is such a file, the script file [cs].

Hello Benkoe,

In attachement, three variants of a basic mission : just a plane flown by the player about to take off. One with no ticked option, one with the Idle option, one with the 'Spawn Parked' option. Anything else = default settings, especially wind (270°).

As a matter of fact, I have just tried the same mission with other planes (Spitfire, Hurricane, Bf...) for the first time and... they don't turn, they behave correctly. So I guess it is an issue specifically related to the Tiger Moth (and maybe other planes I haven't tested yet ?).

In my case it was with the Kittyhawk on the Tobruk map. Very basic mission file attached if it's any use.

@AtomicP Indeed, the Kittyhawk does rotate in your mission the same way as the Tiger Moth does in mine.

I did a test with your file : I replaced your Kittyhawk with a couple of other planes, keeping all of your other settings : the Spitfire Va does not rotate while the Hurricane IIA/trop and the Hurricane I DH5-20 100 Oct rotate...

Hello @Athos1660,

What I can say for sure after a quick test is, all missions {Land$English_Channel_1940} throw an EVENT ERROR:

[0] ERROR [SOUND] ERR_EVENT_NOTFOUND - The requested event, bus or vca could not be found.[event:/core/Cockpits/Default/IN/Buzzer_Cyclic]

The error has nothing to do with our topic, but pretty exciting. Please stay tuned.

That should help narrow things down. Must be some friction thing on the wheels, however that is modelled.

I'm afraid it doesn't help narrow things down. I get contradictory results when I change a couple of parameters, such as 'planes', 'Idle/Spawn parked' and 'average wind speed' (0Kph/11kph).

For example, using the same kind of basic mission I attached in my post above, taking off at Le Havre :

1) with an average wind speed of 11 kph and a WInd direction of 270°, a Spitfire Va :

- rotates with 'Idle'

- doesn't rotate with 'Spawn Parked'

while the Tiger Moth rotates in both cases.

But...

2) with an average wind speed of 0 kph (still with the same WInd direction of 270°), while the Spitfire Va continues the same 'behaviour', as it :

- rotates with 'Idle'

- doesn't rotate with 'Spawn Parked'

the Tiger Moth change its behaviour as it doesn’t rotate in both cases.
