Samuele Posted July 9, 2024 Posted July 9, 2024 Hi, i'm starting to do some level bombing in this fantastic sim, but i've some issue on the accuracy. The problem in short terms is that i sistematically drop short, so the bombs falls before the target of approxmately 100-200m. I'm using primarly wellington Mk 1A anc C (manual bombsight) and Fiat BR 20. I know the basic rules, as explained both in the flashcards and other guides (chucks one for example): -Around 10 km from the target i use the autopilot mode 22, to get a steady level flight and direction. -I set the target altitude according to the altimeter reading minus the target height. -I set the aircaft velocity according to the estimated True Air Speed, adding 3% each 500m of altitude starting from the indicated air speed. For example if i'm flying at 2000m with IAS 300 km/h, i add 12% to the IAS to get 336 km/h, rounded to 340 into the gunsight. -i enter the first person view of the bombsight (shift + F1) and drop when target is under the gunsight I've tried to use the Indicated Air Speed instead of the True air speed and the situation is a little better but still short. I've found also also in this thread: a comment to use IAS for wellington for better accuracy, instead of TAS. The problem can be tested using this sample mission "Bombsight Practice": https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/Downloads.php?do=download&downloadid=193 Am i missing something? Thanks Samuele
Team Fusion Buzzsaw Posted July 9, 2024 Team Fusion Posted July 9, 2024 Hello Samuele There is a group on the ATAG forum who specialize in flying bombers and bombing. I would recommend you post there with your experiences... I am sure you will receive a reply. Or you could do a search on that forum. There are guides out there too. 1
Pinguim Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 (edited) just tested here, around 9k ft, IAS is precise for the early wellingtons (tested welly IA with 500lb bomb, started mod 22 at 3km). i might test further soon. some of the bombsights are not precise in all alts. i don't know if it's a bug or it's intended for all planes. i believe that the late wellington and he-111 bombsights are just plain bugged though. for the late welly it's possible to correct the bug by setting a head wind that's the difference between IAS and TAS (got this info from atag's bomber boys). on the other hand, ju88 is perfect. another problem is, i think, the br.20 sight should go higher than 2700m. BENKOE Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 (edited) The HE-111 bombsight is an inherited 1c:Maddox phantasy piece. 😟 3 hours ago, Pinguim said: ... i believe that the late wellington and he-111 bombsights are just plain bugged though. ... Edit: I remember, somebody provided a HE-111 bombsight test mission: //forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/70658-german-bombsights-off Obviously it has been deleted. Unfortunately I deleted it too.
