DFLion_The Big Show_'Commandant Mouchotte Fails to Return'

This was Clostermann's third mission of the day and probably his toughest! 341 (Free French) Squadron under Command of Commandant Mouchotte, would provide air protection for 60 B17 Flying Fortresses which would bomb a target area south-west of St.Omer.

Back-up for 341 Squadron was 124 Squadron flying HF Spitfire VII's (Spitfire IXe's with Merlin 70's in the mission). The Luftwaffe were expected to react strongly to this third attack of the day, with 8 Staffels of Fw190-A6's based at St. Omer and Abbeville.

As 341 Squadron passed over Griz Nez at 22,000ft they were bounced 'out of the sun' by up to 30 Focke-Wulfs. 124 Squadron flew on to protect the bombers, backed-up by P47's from the 8th Airforce.

This was the scene confronting Clostermann as he swung around into a vicious dogfight with the Focke-Wulfs - will you survive?

Mission notes: It would have been great to have AI Flying Fortresses and 30 gallon Spitfire drop tanks - perhaps one day? B26 bombers substitute for the B17's and I have reduced the number of aircraft flying to help members with older computer set-ups.
A very big thank you to our excellent skin makers E69_julian57 and MarcoPegase44 who have helped me make this mission more realistic. Please use their skins whenever you can.

DFlion, thx for this new Big Show Mission.

After reading the book chapter, you gave me an hour great fun. 😃 Tried to stay with Mouchotte's Spit (NL-L) but finally lost him. Lots of 190s to shoot at and your mission design covered the book story very well. I landed with the last drop of fuel in Manston and guess that the mission is accomplished when Mouchotte survises.

What's next? And are there any Big Show chapters left, which you haven't filled with life?

An always interested fan of your Big Show Missions.

Thanks MarcoPegase44, I would be very happy to put Rene Mouchotte's NL-L skin into the mission - looks excellent.

Ulricus, glad you like the mission. I am going to use this mission to make 3 more missions, 1. From the German perspective flying with JG26 against 341 Squadron. 2. Then flying with JG2 against 124 Squadron. 3. Finally flying with RAF 124 Squadron against JG2.

Hello

Skin Spitfire Mouchotte available HERE

I will try to make the skin of Clostermann's Spitfire at this time as well as skins of Fw190 A5 (It is this variant which was in the majority at this time, the Fw190 A6 only starting to arrive in units)

Thanks Marco, I really do appreciate the 'real local knowledge history' of what was going on at the time - I will most likely change the majority of Focke Wulf's to A5's in an upgrade. I have down loaded your skin - looking foreword to seeing it in the mission. It will good to get Clostermann's skin at the time - thanks.

Hello,

It would be this German pilot according to the magazine "Aces N°6" and in the book "Mes Carnets " from the historical service of French Air Force , following the research of the American historian Donald Caldwell.
