R7-S276 Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 Not surprise but disappointed. There still so many theaters and periods of WW2 still not covered by the last Il-2 series. Personally I already wait a lot of years and spend a lot of money in Il-2 with the hope that one day we could have a DLC about the Battle of France, the Flying Tigers in Burma the MTO theaters… I am not going to follow the Korea adventure and probably buy the next Il-2 Cliffs of Dover expansion Fortress and Focke-Wulfs to be able to fly a B-17 instead of a Mig… 2 1
simfan2015 Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 (edited) What we all hoped for (I guess) ! Bring it on ... the sooner the better. Nice to know there is *no* overlap with Jason's CP ... now we sure don't have to choose one or the other ... BOTH it will be ! And then there still is IL-2 GB getting the new engine too !? [That new Cliffs of Dover expansion ... ???? If they *ever* get that VR-code de-bugged ... somewhere around ... 2041 !? (I sure hope I am mistaken and it all happens today 🙂) Anyway, it is also on my list ... whenever that will happen.] Edited June 26, 2024 by simfan2015

Wardog5711 Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 (edited) Hmmm, I have seen pictures of Sea Furies that had landed at US bases in Korea due to mechanical issues or damage but also staged at Kai Tak airfield in Hong Kong as replacement aircraft. HMS Unicorn would ferry replacements out to the operations area from there. But nothing in my books shows them operating ashore like the US Marines did. That doesn't mean they never did, but I haven't seen any pics. But doing some digging, I found a caption for this photo that shows it is sitting at Iwakuni Japan, 1951. That makes sense. British carriers typically operated on station for 11 days. Four days of flight ops, three days of un-rep then four more days of flight ops. Then they would be replaced by a US carrier before sailing to Iwakuni for a rest and relief period. The aircraft are flown off to a shore base before the ship enters harbor and fly back on when she leaves. This one was from HMS Sydney and had a mechanical issue. Edited June 26, 2024 by Wardog5711

I thought it might be something like that. Yes, the reading I've done suggests something similar. So if we want a Commonwealth aircraft before the carrier technology is finished - the best bet would be an RAAF Meteor F.8. The Sea Fury seems very popular though.
Wardog5711 Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 Forgot this one. Another one with a mechanical issue at a US base. 3

Airborne2001 Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 I'm happy that you guys are finally having the ability to do this. I remember the 2012 interview where it was revealed that Korea was planned in the 2000's, but got pushed aside for other projects. I'm proud of your work. ❤ 2
wiscstar Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 I'm afraid to ask, but what will the system requirements be for this new sim?
nachinus Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 (edited) I'm glad the devs decided to be ambitious with the campaign gameplay and added a management layer possibility. I hope it turns out fine. I remember older sims having very ambitious campaings, Rowan's Battle of Britain and A2A's second iteration of the same title are still unsurpassed in that regard. Any design concept that aims to a deeper and better SP gameplay experience is music to my ears. Edited June 28, 2024 by nachinus 1

actionhank1786 Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 Is Korea going to become the only focus in terms of new maps/theaters/planes, or is it just going to be the primary focus, while there might be other theaters explored for the "Battle of X" series? I'm excited either way, but it would be nice to have some new developments on the WWII front as well, though I know that just creates an even bigger workload. 1
Aapje Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 @actionhank1786 Korea is just the next module. I can see them do one more Korea module focused more on carriers, or they might go to a different setting immediately after this one.
Sunde Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 (edited) Sounds super cool! Wonder if spotting on my 4k monitor will still be mission impossible? Totally ruined the game once i switched to a 4k, have not been able to fly multiplayer since (just 100% blinded compared to what i was) Plans to fix this situtation? Otherwise its just a no-buy i guess 😕 Edited June 28, 2024 by Sunde 1

DFLion Posted June 29, 2024 Posted June 29, 2024 I am looking forward to the Korean IL2 series. It is the logical next step from WWII fighter aircraft, including the first jets, to the first 'jet vs jet' fighter battles in the skies over Korea. I have always been fascinated by the Sabre and Mig 15 jets and have fortunately seen both aircraft flying impressively at air shows. The Mig 15 is a particularly interesting aircraft, having been developed from the British Government giving the Russian Government several centrifugal British jet engines. Mikoyan was very quick to design a compact jet fighter around these engines and the Mig 15 was born, to be thoroughly tested by Russian pilots over North Korea (Mig Alley) against the US Sabre jets. Being a 'Mission Maker' I am looking forward to seeing the Korean theatre map and creating some interesting historic missions. I have already made several Mig vs Sabre missions in DCS, which work very well, though not on a real area map. It will be good to have the familiarity of our current flight sim in the new flight sim, though reading the brief, there will be quite a few changes. I will always be interested in our WWII piston engine fighter aircraft, so well made in our current flight sim, especially the new German Ta152H-1 Focke-Wulf, which has just been added. DFLion Apologies for poor quality of maps below.

Aapje Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Perhaps you two should state what monitor size you have/had. That can make a major difference with regard to the pixel density.
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 For 4k I would suggest at least 42 inch monitor. For 3440x1440 34 is good, better 2560x1080.
