@LukeFF Am I correct in saying Il-2 Korea plane set be used in the standard IL-2 Great battles as FC & BO(X) modules are ?

Still can’t wait Fokker E III, Sopwith Pub, Sopwith Strutter, Roland C. II and the Airco DH.2? 🤗

Hi!

As the team stated, the engine was redone in many aspects. I doubt it would be added with just a click.

Why no any carrier? (again 😞?)

It was big a part of Korea war! Example:

Hi YoYo! So far, we have to wait for DDs to have more information.

In regards of carriers, many sorties with Corsairs were flown from the mainland too, but it would be cool to have them :)

Don't see how that is possible being the DX12 graphics engine...

A shame if it's not as I can imagine people thinking up a 'what if' the cold war went hot in Europe.

Agree, had great hopes for a Korea Map and Dynamic Campaign in DCS, but thats just a pipe dream and they really only have the two jets to use there anyway..

The technology appears to be substantially different, particularly with regard to the PBR textures - so most likely this won't be the case (note: this is speculation on my part). We know that it is unlikely that the standard Great Battles planes will be useable in Korea without significant updates to these models. It is worth noting that, with the exception of the F-51, F-4U, Tu-2, B-26 (A-26), DC-3, Yak-7 and a couple of others, there isn't really an overlap between the aircraft in WWII and in Korea... so it shouldn't be a huge problem if there are some incompatibilities.

My copium here but they way I understood it it could mean the whole engine itself and just export the older stuff to it. Just a thought.

It would be neat to get this as an official module, as it would give us DeHavilland Vampires and Venoms, the La-15, Il-28, Canberra (early day version) and a number of other aircraft that were around in 1950-1955 but didn't serve in Korea.

Yep Il-2 1946 but without the Wonderwaffe and with modern graphics, ngl I would totally buy that.

As it is a brand new game instead of a module, 99% sure it won't be the case.

Glad to see the announcement of a new flight sim!
Neverteless I'm a little bit disappointed regarding the period and theatre of operation and the related abandon of the focus on WW2 that is by far the most interesting period in which set flight combat missions due to variety of environments, type of planes and armaments, mission types etc...

I really hope that the team will continue also parallel development and improvement of all the WW2 (and maybe WW1) packages in the next years, the abandonement of WW2 would be a pity and a big loss of players, Also because Korea period has a very limited amount of plane types, combat situations and combat theatres compared to WW2.

Glad the announcement is made.
Good luck to the team and I hope it will be a success.

So, after going through the website a few times and using information we already know, I'm 90% sure this is the aircraft list for Korea

Yak 9 (WIP image was displayed a while back)
Il-10
F-51
Corsair
Mig 15
F-80 Shooting Star
F-86 Sabre
Unknown Jet (I'm thinking most likely an F84, though hoping it's a Meteor despite evidence in the contrary)

B-29 and TU-2 as AI only

F-84

Yeah it’s very disappointing that the development of the WW2 theatre will now pretty much stop, save from a few collectors planes here and there. I do hope some of the features of the Korean game will port across, the career mode particularly would be a great feature to move over.

My two cents:

1) They could do a Korean War expansion - but there are only so many planes. Moving beyond 1955 means increasingly sophisticated avionics and radars... so they probably won't want to do 1967-1973... This means that, assuming they keep making flight-simulators, they will have to revisit WWII and WWI at some point in the next few years.

2) Furthermore, they announced some tentative plans to work with third parties to release small amounts of WWII content over the next couple of years.

So may advice would be: Neither panic nor despair.

I don't know how people just forget everything that was said, it's like a mind-wipe happens when another announcement is made.

They're not "abandoning" anything. It's Korea for now, then on to PTO.

Well, maybe. I wouldn't count on anything before it is announced officially... but they did express interest in tech to support PTO as a subsequent module.

We know the answer, and we don’t know the future - but the intent has been clear for a long time now.

IIRC they said that the Pacific would come after this Next project, so we can expect Pacific after Korea if plans didn't change

I'm just anticipating that plans could change... but yes, the PTO fans might end up with quite a surplus of content in the next few years! We'll see.

Absolutely

It would be suicidal IMO, but sure. :)

Best move would be CBI or New Guinea

There appears to be a report of what appears to be a Yak-17 (Chinese conversion trainer?) being shot down during the war... would be kind-of cool.

So if PTO is next then the question is will it be in this new standard of graphics or be the same old GB.

My assumption is that it would be built to the newest standards.

It will be a successor of Korea. Maybe in the 2nd half of this decade. 2028ish.

My thoughts too which this returns to the original question about the old sim content being compatible with the new sim to fill that "dead space" even without being updated to the new standard lol.

Another thought: there is something that I can not understand... If PTO is the next theatre of IL-2 series after Korea, what about PTO "Combat pilot" flight sim currently under development by Jason Williams?!

Does it mean that at some point we will have two PTO flight sims at the same time splitting the market in two parts?

It looks a waste of resources to me.
