There is a way to create an aircraft without pilot and with a specific skin ?

You can either have a custom skin assigned to a complex aircraft with a pilot, or you could mod a static aircraft block with a custom skin and a cover over the cockpit. That would require extracting the block texture for the static aircraft (if it exists in game) and applying it as a mod.

You cannot remove the pilot from a parked complex (flyable) aircraft.

In the near future, myself and other virtual pilots will be submitting a report on the mission editor and AI. Our aim is to propose ideas for improving the game to offer realistic single-player and multiplayer missions.

As far as static objects are concerned, we'll be proposing to the developers that they create a new section (e.g. static vehicles) to group all aircraft and other vehicles in a single section, modifiable only on a visual level (like skins) and possibly allowing the appearance of certain payloads. However, I'm still testing the editor to identify further areas for improvement.

Overall, though, the editor is already very good - excellent work by the developers!

Exemple of idea :

Static spawn point for player
An example of a feature I would like to see in the game is a "Spawn-Point" system for players. Currently, when I create missions for my group, I would like to be able to define certain aircraft as spawn points for the players, rather than forcing them to spawn in a line or elsewhere.

There are probably better ideas out there, but this is mine.

Good luck with that, LOL. Maybe you haven't heard they are using most of their time working on a new/upgraded game?

Last time I asked, they won't even put a US skin on one of the 2 static P-51B blocks that are both British. Someone did remove the cover from one of them in the thumbnail ID pictures in the ME though. I didn't find it very amusing at the time.

I wonder why it is prioritized like this? We have, for example, a lot of ships, which is great and, probably needed a lot of work to make. But you really don't see them in career or multiplayer that much, at least not all of them. But we still miss things that have been asked for years, like horse-drawn units, static planes, and German infantry. It would probably be faster to make than the radar boat that I have never seen in-game except testing it in ME myself. 🫠

From the beginning they said that they put the editor as there was a very large request, but clearly you had to expect no support.

They only react when there is a too big bug. But regarding requests to improve or add things I think they never read even the posts.

They will only add things if the dev teams needs it when they develop say a new campaign.

So now it is very interesting times as they are developing a new campaign Korea. But they said the editor will be the same.

Excellent news, so maybe we can expect improvements, like a non crashing editor, the possibility to spawn and delete entire flights, as well as static objects. etc. etc.

Wait and see....

Let's not go there, okay? The team does read what's posted here.

I have not seen anyone make any statements about what the editor will be. As far as I know, we have only seen one screenshot with no comments as to whether it is even close to what will be released. BlackSix said he has not used it and has no experience with it yet.

Let's avoid misunderstandings. Here my comment is very specifically related to the editor improvement and evolution, as seen from our mission developers side.

For many years we had a thread for improvement of the editor, and frankly maybe it is wrong but from our side the feeling is that our posts specifically on the topic of the editor improvement and other were not read or have fallen on deaf ears. Maybe the have been read, but we never head any reaction on the topic from them and this for years. This is why one day me and some others posting on that thread gave up and stopped posting. This is why we continue having an editor that unexpectedly crashes 10 times a day, and even after nearly 10 years this has not been solved. And this is just the basics we could expect for a tool.

This was a change from the strategy about the previous IL2 series where the editor has continuously been improved and objects library regularly enriched etc. I had expected a similar approach. As I said maybe things change with Korea, we can only hope things may improve regarding the new updated editor.

I now that the mission builders community is a niche inside a niche, mainly due to the complex editor (but very powerful and that i like), but campaigns and missions developed by some simmers can leverage a much more players. It is unfortunate that this side of the sim has never been strongly developed, or been part of the main strategy.

Excellent post @kraut1. I believe the mipmaps are reduced scale skin images copied from the original for near, mid range and far distances where the resolution is lower.
