The ultimate experts on this would be the Finnish guys.

But before you proceed, be aware that it takes a *lot* of time and effort. If you're really interested, I'd suggest contacting LLv44_Kanttori, who is the project lead there.

I as well have a lot of knowledge, especially on the technical side of things. I also have a number of tools you might be interested in. If you're interested, feel free to drop me a PM :) (note that I'm usually slow to respond though...)

Thanks mate but could be nice to wait a direct answer from Devs, in order to be correct with them  I suppose...

You can send a PM directly to Han, but in my experience he rarely answers. Maybe it's best to talk to commuity manager LukeFF first, so he can get you in contact with the devs.

My experience is that the Devs are very helpful, if you ask them targeted questions. I've asked them rather in-depth and technical questions and so far always got an answer. But I don't think they can take the time to explain some of the more "basic" map editing stuff, let alone give any advice on how to best proceed with this as a 3rd party volunteer group. Hence my recommendation to talk with some of the map teams from the community first :)

To get any map into the game, the Devs will require a map that is of a comparable quality to the official maps. So that means height/water/forest maps, roads, map textures, towns including ground textures, 3d models if needed. There are official tools out there to convert height/water/forest bitmaps into the game format; if you like I can provide them to you. Finetuning you can do in the editor. Roads are a bit of a hassle but I'm writing a tool to do those as well. Surface files you can read about in my manual. You can edit and load the map in the editor. Once the map is of a sufficiently good quality and there will not be additional changes to the heightmap, you can ask the Devs to enable the heightmap for your account, after which you can also test it in-game.

I think this just about covers it; @LukeFF anything to add? :)

EDIT: the Finnish team also has manuals for most of the actions needed; not sure if these were written by the Devs or by the team themselves, and if they would be willing to share them.

This is a map that would be appealing to many players: Tunisia Campaign map.

Minus the Italian birds we pretty much have the plane set to cover this. Over 50% of it is open sea and not very urban, plus it can be used to simulate Operation Husky and the Siege of Malta. We also have pretty much the plane set to cover these scenarios too except for the Italian birds and a British torpedo bomber but most people can probably live with that.

It would look something like this: image.png

That could make for some very interesting Tank Crew missions as well.

Cliffs Tobruk has a lot of that area covered, but for tanks one would need more desert, and Bedouin tents plus some (ammo)camels.

For the current maps one could also wish for more area added to the Moscow, Stalingrad and even Kuban maps ....
