For those voting yes, please comment below on why you've chosen yes.  I can't think of any benefit of always landing last.  Please share your views!

You forgot the "I don't care" answer. Half the fun is landing the plane. If you are going to let the AI land, why not just hit escape?

Because it's fun to watch my aircraft land under AI control.  I land my plane myself about 50% of the time (and always if my plane is damaged, as I stand a better chance of landing safely than with the AI).  But the other 50% of the time I love landing under AI so I can watch my flaps and gear drop with the F2 view, and then use the F3 fly-by view to watch the flare, etc.  But you pay a dear price if you want to do that, as you often have to wait 20 minutes or more in the circuit before your plane lands last.

Or just record your landing and review it afterwards in the video player. Then you can land in any pattern position you want. No waiting required.

Ok, I'll bye that. It's all about doing what makes you happy. It is a game. :salute:

Yes, but it would be easier for 1C to change the landing order code than to have to do that every time.  In PWCG missions and some of the scripted campaigns the player's plane always lands first.  But I also like the IL-2 Great Battles Career mode, so knowing Pat Wilson and other scripted campaign creators can do it, I'm certain 1C programmers can make the change, too.  I can't see any benefit to the player's plane always landing last.  If there is one, I'd love to know what it is.  You can easily be stuck in the landing circuit for 20 minutes or longer waiting to land last.  What fun is that? ?

Does the player plane really always lands first in these missions? If yes, I wonder which settings are necessary in the mission editor to achieve this. If you have such a mission maybe you could upload it so I can check it.

Hi Juri,

I've asked Pat what he is doing to make the player's plane land first, and he said "nothing."  So, something is happening with the Career missions to make the player's plane land last.  Someone who builds missions or scripted campaigns (can't remember who) posted that a "Wait" command is issued to the players plane as it approaches the airfield in Career missions.  I'll build a short little PWCG mission later today and post it for you so you can watch the behavior and check the mission files ?

Ok, here is a "no contact" mission from PWCG where the player's plane will land first.  You can fly it with time compression in just a few minutes.  If you fly it manually, make sure and hit all the waypoints, and in between the Egress waypoint and the Approach waypoint turn on the autopilot "A" and you will see the player's plane land before his wingmen land.  Let us know what you find out.

Cheers!

I've tested the PWCG mission to see what caused the player plane to land first. The suprising result is, that the player lands first, when the planes are not enabled at mission start, but activated/spawned. When I enabled the planes at mission start, the player would no longer land first.

That's great info, Juri!

And someone else commented about 6 months ago that a "Wait" command is issued to the player's plane when the blue "landing" icon appears as the player's flight approaches its airfield in IL-2 GB Career mode.  This must not happen when an aircraft is activated/spawned rather than being enabled in PWCG as you have discovered.  I'm hoping 1C will disable the "Wait" command for a player's plane when preparing to land in IL-2 Career mode, as there is no benefit for a player waiting to land last.  In fact, it's an annoying delay for no good reason at all.

Thanks, Juri! :salute:

We've had a 4th vote "Yes" but never an explanation from those voting "Yes" as to how landing last enhances their gaming experience (from the player's perspective).

Please give us an explanation, as I can see none 🤔

I don't care, as I never use AI control (only autolevel).
