House Rules for Pat Wilson's Flying Circus Campaign Manager?

I'm wondering how people use the PWFCCM. It's extremely customizable, so what "house rules" do you use as you play? For example, if I score more than 1 kill, I divide the number of kills by 2 and round down. In other words, if I score 1, 2, or 3 kills, I claim 1. If I score 4 or 5, I claim 2. Etc. I have several other's I developed over the years, but I'm interested to see what other players are doing.

I check the debrief while still in game and claim exactly what is shown..

If I score 4 that's what I claim. If it's more than that I still claim 4 otherwise you end up with ridiculous totals. Perhaps limiting to 2 or 3 might be better.

I started a campaign in January 1918 and in two months was leading MvR.

I now use my system of multiple kills/2, rounded down, and mandatory leaves for kill totals, awards, promotions, and groups of 30 sorties. Doing this holds down my totals to rational levels. And as I progress, the leaves become longer and I have to work to get my totals up. Also, the "lost" kills go to my comrades, whose scores and levels go up, although they're rarely any help.

I also keep the density levels low in months that historically were quiet. I crank them up for areas where there were offensives. This also holds down my totals.

Interesting thread gents - those still flying RoF and the PWCG ver. 16.x.x might be interested in knowing that the various "modulation files" (tweaked "RofCampaignSpecific" files) I provide for the PWCG do a similar thing as Majpalmer has incorporated for the PWFC - i.e., thinning out flight congestion for earlier periods of the war, etc. I've also attempted to extend injury/damage leaves with the modulation files - so that, on average, one may be out of commission for a couple of months after a bad crash, and so on. All such details help to keep one's total score down within more realistic (historical) numbers. Also a thumbs up to that rule to divide an overall tally by two, if the other tweaks don't help fully.

Cheers all & good flying,

?

The RoF version I have, and the one I found, is 3.3.2. Anyone have a link to RoF 16? And the VonS mod?

Thanks.

The older PWCG ver. 16.x.x (that works best with RoF) is linked to at the bottom of this post.

All of my RoF mods. are linked to at the bottom of this post.

Cheers,

?

I am not quite as disciplined in claiming as your formula - but if I make Squadron CO, I start working with individual AI pilots to throw my kills to them until they make ace, and keep working that as a rinse and repeat until I have as many pilots at ace level as possible.  I also run a 3 to 1 simulated flight ratio to make the numbers look a little better.

However, my one rule that I never violate is DEAD IS DEAD - no matter why (including something totally not my fault, and maybe not game related at all, computer crash, cat in lap, etc.).  I think that helps to make up for all of the real world risks not programmed into our flights (i.e. how many of the best WWI aces died in accidents).  Following this rule can also keep down the totals.

It also can give some real attachment to your pilot - when I was running the little "Ace of Aces" PWCG contest a few years ago, my brother started following the posts (he doesn't play), and I ended up with this as a humorous Christmas gift from him now hanging as a cherished memento in @PatrickAWlson's honor for his years of amazing work (and yeah...I had to tell my brother he got the wrong President Roosevelt photo - he then reminded me he is a scientist, not a historian - duh):

Today I went back to playing Pat Wilson's Campaign Manager for Rise of Flight. Until they produce more early planes, Pat's Beta version for FC keeps messing me up.

What's interesting is that I haven't played RoF in about three years. The graphics aren't bad. Not as good, but not bad. My FPS is actually worse, by about 20-25%. But it's still good. With the modding I have to say the AI seems much better. And, of course, you have a far greater aircraft selection. Those Rolands look great!

Another big plus is the 16x time compression. I can take off and land without the mission lasting forever. And in RoF, 16x is close to 16x. In FC, 8x is about 2x.

The AI in Rise of Flight is a lot better especially with vonS mods. For the time RoF was released graphics were great. Trees and water still look better than FC. With so many missing planes really only late 1917 and 1918 works okay. Yes the Roland was one of the beauties of WW1, ahead of it's time. Really disappointing that Il-2 won't add to the meagre line up of German 2 seaters and that will have taken almost five years to release all planes and maps. For me the FC careers are rather odd in that mostly missions are just adapted from WW2 whereas PWGC seems more like what you might fly in WW1. A lot of thanks to Pat Wilson for his work for Rise of Flight and FC campaign manager. Great work by vonS with his RoF mods.

Wholeheartedly agree. I've had some wild furballs in RoF the past few days. And I'm not shooting down 4-8 planes with my Alb DII, as I do in FC.

I can understand why we don't see the modding for FC that we do for RoF. The latter is done; FC is a moving target. Same problem Pat has. How do you Mod in the current 1916 planes when you don't have what you need to run his campaign?

As for the graphics, I'm running them in5k with Shaders. They look pretty good, especially with the static planes Mod.

And as I've said elsewhere, with RoF's better time compression, I can take off, fly, and land without blowing 45 minutes. I don't get 16x, but it's about 2-3x, about twice the speed min FC.

And, as you said: ROLANDS!!!!

Indeed - while I admire the perseverance (and patience) of modders who mod for sims currently being (heavily/regularly) patched and developed, I always follow the ye-olde-modder's rule - i.e., only mod for sims no longer being developed (e.g., FE2/SF2 and RoF) or that develop according to tried, tested, and usually glacial timelines (e.g., the WoFF series; also an honorable mention to the free FlightGear).

@Majpalmer, see the additional "Note" that I included in my last post under the RoF pics/movies thread when convenient - regarding the RoFCampaignSpecific oddities (recommended is to re-install the PWCG ver. 16.x.x since it seems that there is some error/corruption going on with the default file[s] in your PWCG install; therefore, dates are not automatically ticking over, etc.).

Good flying to you gents',
