Hi Tank Crew Owners,

Update 26.09.2024: adapted for new EMGv85

For quick generation of autumn 1941 - summer 1943 semi historic missions I have adapted EMG to the TC Map.

Beside the famous July 1943 Operation Citadel / Battle of Prokharovka I have defined some additional fronts in 1941, 1942 and August 1943 to enable the pilots to create historical missions as long military actions took place on the map area.

Because not winter map is existing I did not define winter front lines.

At first many thanks to:

Vander for Easy Mission Generator

Juri_JS for the link to historical map archives

Historical Overview:

1941:

Late Operation Barbarossa German Advance October / November 1941

1942:

Static Front May 1942

Early Case Blue German advance

1943:

Static Front June 1943

Operation Citadel with front lines near Prokhorovka / Operation Roland

(the focus is currently on general Citadel missions, not Prokhorovka optimzed)

Static Front late July 1943 after Operation Citadel failed

Belgorod-Kharkov Operation Russian Counter Offensive and Liberation of Belgorod

Required IL2 Great Battles Modules:

-Tank Crew (for the map)

Optional for flying missions: (You have to own only the player's planes, all AI controlled are free available)

BoM: for 1941/42 Missions

BoS: for 1941-43 Missions

BoK: for 1943 Missions

Collector planes e.g. HS-129, La-5,...

Content:

-In EMG integrated TC Map, here called: Belgorod Map

-23 semi historical front lines, based on german general staff maps, Thanks very much Juri_JS!

https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/87150-belgorod-tc-map-area-battle-maps-of-october-41-case-blue-end-june-42-3-7-august43/?do=findComment&comment=1302781

-Slightly changed planes-mod.json for Eastern Front, Operation Citadel 43 Southern Area:

U2VS only for 1941 (can be used e.g.: for night missions with the original planes.json)

Spitfire MKVb: later, July 43

P39: later, only 42/43 (I don't want to have more than 50% western fighter planes at the 1941 eastern front)

BF109-G4/G6: only fighter

FW190-A3/A5: only ground attack / Jabo: as it was at the Southern Part of Operation Citadel

FW190-A6: deactivated, not used at the Southern Part of Operation Citadel

Me410: deactivated

-new CoopTemplate_BELGOROD.Mission

CoopTemplate_BELGOROD_no_radar_v01 (standard)

CoopTemplate_BELGOROD_scripted_campaign.Mission (with mission objectives completed after 30seconds)

CoopTemplate_BELGOROD_with_axis_radar.Mission

CoopTemplate_BELGOROD_with_axis_radar_for_scripted_campaign.Mission

-Modified CoopTemplate_GENERIC with alternative historical tank types and 3 instead of 2 tank column types

-CoopTemplate_GENERIC-1941-tanks : typical german short barrel Panzer III, Panzer IV, Stg, Pz38t tanks, very many russian BT7 and some few T34, KV1

-CoopTemplate_GENERIC-1942-tanks: for spring 42 typical mixture of long / short barrel Tanks and Stg. Higher percentage of T34 / KV1, both 1942 version

-CoopTemplate_GENERIC-1943-tanks : most advanced german / russian tanks

-Default are currently the 1943 tanks

How to activate the required tanks: in the /template folder copy / rename e.g.:

CoopTemplate_GENERIC-1942-tanks.mission to CoopTemplate_GENERIC.mission

CoopTemplate_GENERIC-1942-tanks.eng to CoopTemplate_GENERIC.eng

User Instructions:

-Because this mod is not checked / approved by Vander:

If you encounter problems, issues, bugs please do NOT ask Vander! Please ask me for support.

I don`t want to create extra workload for him.

New: if have problems to destroy tanks with 30mm / 37mm guns you could try this mod:

https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/89351-il2-gb-tank-engine-life-values-patchv02/

-The modded EMG should be used in first line with the new Belgorod (Tank Crew) map. The other maps could work too, but mission design is maybe not so good, because I had to change some target objective definitions.

-The Mod is tested currently only with Single Player Missions, but Coop / Dogfight could work too, but not tested.

-Reset of the EMG Map:

Sometimes, when switching from another map (e.g. Normandy) to Belgorod the map front is at first not shown correctly.

-Choose Front: (This is an original Vilikiye Luki front by Vander, it works always)

image.png.fa319864121e1171ae6441e3315d5ed6.png

After Reset you can select fronts as required

-when switching from one front to the next front it is good to select / save 2 Airfields, that are available on each front:

image.png.2f5f3dda0f36534e2bde9e9c78183eca.png and image.png.b44382de799717d6db333f6a5a8cac15.png

-To avoid the not ending message (general EMG rule) image.png.99c683846266abb2f26f2910f7683f90.png

For first missions select only 1-3 Targets per side for test, the reduction of the No. of Targets helps EMG.

For my test missions I use mostly 2-3 Targets per Side)

-Player's plane (general EMG rule):

Select only planes that you own. If a plane type is selected for the player, that he does not own the mission will be invisible in IL2 GB.

-Take Off:

-I myself use only take off from runway

-I have checked all airfields  "from ramp" / from parking position with small flight sizes ca. 4+4 planes.

-If you want to use take off "from ramp":

Before you waste your time because of an AI taxying accident please make an AI controlled test take off

Oh man Kraut you've made my day with this! I can't tell you how long I've wanted to do the Battle of Kursk from the air!

Okay I did something wrong I think. Forgive me if it's something obvious - I've checked against the directions and I'm not sure where I went wrong.

I tried to create an airfield attack mission with the Belgorad early Operation Barbarossa phase. It got stuck "generating" indefinitely because I think I did something wrong selecting the airfields, but now I get this error message when I try to reboot the EMG

Do I need to reinstall the whole thing?

Hi, sorry for the problems.

-If you could send me your current config.ini I could check what the problem is.

-For you I would suggest only to re-install the config.ini from my zip file.

-additionally a link to my complete EMG Belgorod installation for download.

You have only to define the IL2GB path and the mission folder path.

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/lq9pmrekgfboxbygt6huj/EMG-Belgorod-Prokhorovka-EMGv81.1-v01.zip?rlkey=ih6homdffxhg6ycv8h1azx0vl&dl=0

-Please see my user instructions in the main post:

image.png.3b7022993c79594482b5a1d1fe437b08.png

-I suggest when you have 1 working installation to backup the whole folder. (only ca.45MB)

in case of a new issue you can re-install by using the backup, takes only 1 minute

I have been hoping for something like this.  The Prokhorovka map is so neglected and forgotten!  This MOD will help to more utilize this map!  Thank you!

Hi,

A hint about the current EMGv81.1.

Ambient planes: in EMGv81.1 Vander has included a new function to activate ambient planes only if the player is closer than a specified distance.

This has the benifit of optimizing computer performance / fps.

What I found out:

The distances for activation / deactivation are currently 10000m / 11000m.

These values are defined in Generic Template mission.

There are 2 Checkzones (1 for axis, 1 for allied) called Name = "Player Close"; with Zone = 10000 and 2 called Name = "Player Away"; with Zone = 11000;

If you want that the ambient planes appear in a bigger or shorter distance you can modify these values.

For my Normandy missions I have increased the values to be able to detect the ambient planes with my radar subtitle group or my wingmen audio warnings.

For my current Belgorod missions I have used 21000m / 51000m.

When I have adapted my radar group to the TC map I think I will increase the activation range to ca. 30000...40000m.

And a note concerning my modification:

-The ambient ground forces (additional AI artillery, Columns,...) are positioned by EMG on big area of ca. 60kmx60km.

This is in general okay for generating interesting flight sim missions, but for the dramatic Battle of Kursk / Prokharovka ground battles a bit to far dispersed.

So in future there is the possibility to create by copying a front and reducing the area to maybe ca.30kmx30km to concentrate the ambient ground forces on a smaller area.

-And there is the possibilty to define for each front a corresponding Group named Radar_[front name] with custom ground units. All objects of this group are added to the mission file if the frontline is active: E.g.: for the day of the Battle of Prokharovka (front "P"  it is possible to create a Radar_P group that contains some T34 / Tiger Units that clash near Prokhorovka.

-On the other hand of course computer performance / fps has to be considered.

So there is much room for individual adjustments by the users.

Added later:

First Radar / enemy planes sightings mod group releast for testing:

Il-2KR artillery fire reconnaissance and spotter aircraft
It's a pity that the Il-2KR modification is not present in the simulator. However, they also performed combat missions.

A little history about this plane.

Скрытый текст

In August 1942, the commander of the Red Army Air Forces Novikov,
in connection with the successful use of the Il-2U AEM 38 for artillery fire adjustment in June-July 1942,
appealed to the People's Commissar of the Aviation Industry Shakhurin with a request to create a reconnaissance artillery fire adjuster based on the Il-2.

The two-seater Il-2 was supposed to be a reconnaissance and artillery fire adjuster in addition to its assault functions.

Shakhurin forwarded the letter to Ilyushin, the designer replied that the Il-2 with the AM-38 engine would not be enough,
and it would be better to build an Il-2 with the M 82 engine for these purposes. Ilyushin's statements were not accepted.

On January 8, 1943, the Regulation on Adjustment Aviation was issued. On February 7, 1943, the State Defense Committee, by Resolution No. 2841, ordered Ilyushin
to adapt the two-seater Il-2 aircraft with an AM 38F engine by installing an RSB radio station and a photo installation on it.

In March 1943, the Il-2 spotter-reconnaissance aircraft was built.

The Il-2KR retained the design and armament of the serial aircraft with the AM-38F.

The composition of the equipment, fuel scheme and armor scheme were changed.

A more powerful RSB-3bis radio station with a longer range was installed,
it was installed in the middle part of the cockpit canopy behind the pilot's armored backrest,
above the reduced height rear gas tank.
An AFA-I camera was installed in the tail section of the fuselage.

A radio antenna was installed on the Il-2KR on the front fixed visor of the pilot's cockpit canopy.

Flight tests of the Il-2KR were completed in March-April 1943.

And although the test report indicated that the equipment did not fully meet the requirements for a reconnaissance aircraft,
Nevertheless, by State Defense Committee Resolution No. 3144 of April 10, 1943, the aircraft was launched into serial production at Plant No. 1,
since Plant No. 30 received the task of producing the Il-2 with a 37-mm Nudelman and Suranov cannon.

In April 1943, 65 Il-2KR aircraft were produced and by July 1, the army had 41 aircraft.
-------------------
At the front, the pilots liked the aircraft, but they noted that the installation of one camera was not enough to perform all the tasks of the Il-2KR. In combat units, homemade photo installations were made on serial Il aircraft to provide low-altitude advanced photo reconnaissance.

The armoring of the air gunner-observer's seat was insufficient. This was understood in the Ilyushin Design Bureau,
but they could not stop the conveyor to redesign the armored hull.

In April 1945, the Il-2KR with an extended armored hull with armoring of the air gunner was presented to the Red Army Air Forces Research Institute.

The length of the wooden part of the fuselage was reduced on the aircraft and the wing sweep was increased by 6 degrees.

It received an AM-38F engine with a takeoff power of 1,720 hp, and developed a maximum speed of 390 km/h near the ground and 410 km/h at altitude.

Practical range of 765 km. Rate of climb 500 m/min. Practical ceiling 6,000 m.

It was armed with two 20-mm ShVAK cannons (210 rounds per barrel), two ShKAS machine guns with 750 rounds per barrel
and one 12.7-mm UBT machine gun for firing backwards with 150 rounds.

The Il-2 received a favorable review from the State Commission, but it was not put into production.
Since the war was over, and for the purposes of reconnaissance and artillery fire adjustment, it was necessary to create another aircraft with a better view and flight and technical data.

At the front, they made do with homemade alterations.
During the Vyborg operation in June 1944, the enemy's front line was photographed by Il-2s using AFA three ES cameras, from turret photo installations in the gunner's cabin. In August 1944, several Il-4s of the 2nd Assault Air Corps of the 5th Air Army received four synchronously operating AFA I EM cameras,

which took perspective photographs from a height of 25-50 meters.
