bycomet Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Unlike bridge bombing missions where you can simply identify bridges, building bombing missions are confusing, because mission targets are usually surrounded by lots of city buildings. Mission brief only provide a rough area of the target. Without object mark assistance, I don't know what exactly the target is. Here is my recent result: 1. Mission briefing: waypoint 2 is the target location, just before a river, in a small town. 2 Flight route: I finished the mission without navigation mark and object mark. Fully visual flight to the target. Returned home using radio navigation. 3 Details: Destroyed two targets in waypoint 2 area. The selected one is railway station facility, it should be a correct one for a train station bombing mission? 4 Result: No! None of the destroyed buildings is the target, even if one of them falls into railroad category.
=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 If you open up the mission editor you can look through all the possible building assets and make a mental note of all the possible targets, and with experience eventually you'll be able to tell which object is a real target or not. Or you can be extra try hard and open up that exact mission every time before you do it, and look to see what the real targets are. Not very fun or intuitive, but that's just how it is when the real targets are mixed in with scenery.
MAJ_stug41 Posted January 21, 2024 Posted January 21, 2024 In this game you just have to figure out what constitutes a "railway station facility" and use your judgement. In the Q&A they mentioned that the next releases will have some type of "operational management", and I hope that includes some type of reconnaissance element in which one can look at photographs of the area before attacking, as was and is done in reality.

In this mission type, it is the train and the tanks and trucks next to it. If your flight destroys at least one wagon or the locomotive, the mission will be successful. In supply depot bombing missions, you have to look for the large warehouses. On the map your targets are in the light grey area of the town, compared to the medium grey areas of the town buildings, which don't count as targets (in fact, I don't think they are destroyable at all).
kestrel79 Posted January 22, 2024 Posted January 22, 2024 Having recon photos of what the target looks like would be cool. 1 2

jollyjack Posted January 22, 2024 Posted January 22, 2024 Can't you do that with a linked entry fake vehicle that fires something like a flare, a text message, or a smoke signal?
Jaegermeister Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 (edited) You could take an overhead screenshot of the target area, convert it to a black and white image and circle the targets in an image editor, save it and then display it on screen at the beginning of the mission with a media player MCU. I don’t think that will happen in a campaign mission because the targets are generated with a template. It’s also a lot of work for a 20 second image to display. Zooropa_Fly Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 One could display the target photo as the cockpit picture ?
Jaegermeister Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 If someone has an hour or 2 to mess around with the ME and gimp before flying a mission, all of those things can be done.
