Very nice! Somehow I never knew that. Nice job Luke.

I'll bet! Was that your first foray into 3D?

Nowadays that much work is not quite the 'blocking in' stage. :o:

I think just the gunsight I built for a DCS aircraft last year had more polys by 3 or 4 times.

We've come a long ways.

Did you do any others?

Thanks! Yes, it was my first (and last) foray into 3D modeling. Luthier helped me out a ton to get it to the point where it was acceptable to Oleg's standards.

I was going to try my hand at modeling the Hs 129 cockpit but then I joined the military.

Without a doubt the best looking Spitfire.

Sure, it combines power and elegance.

I would prefer biplanes - trainers and liason aircraft:

- Bü 131

- Kl 25

- Go 145 or Ar 66, with saw Action as night ground attack planes from 1943-1945

- and, not a biplane, but essential for emersion feeling: Fi 156 - picking up shot down comrades after mission, looking for new airfields...

That’s just a Tiger Moth without the class.

Was there some kind of 1920-30s legal requirement that engines of a certain size must feature a vertical and offset multipurpose intake? They all seem to have one.

Engines of a certain configuration: 4-cylinder air-cooled inverted. If it works, why fix it...

Oh, am not saying it was a poor solution. More that it mostly seems to be a vertical slot on the port side to the refusal of much else.

It was just a question of cooling fins and baffles design. Answer below (courtesy of Mr Bill Gunston's "Development of Piston Aero Engines").

Did they answer to question what they plan to do with this game when new project gets going, as far i see no, so no reason to buy anything yet, they can make what ever they wont, but if this game not gona be compatable with new project, ppl will just play new game, so better wait to buy stuff in new game is my way of thinking. So answer to op is none.

And it's still coming. As you probably saw they were extremely busy this past week with the latest update. ?

Fokker DXXI, Fokker G1, Me109E series, Spitfire MKI &II. We need more early war birds.  PZL 11.p. It’s really a shame the team is so small. Basically want IL2 1946 aircraft line up resurrected in Forgotten Battles. We need more crap planes.

Never going to happen... once the 'new project' is announced it'll be all focused work on that. Even if they left a couple of people to look after the GB series, you'll have died of old age before even half the old IL2 series aircraft had been covered.

Unfortunately I think you are right. But we can still dream. Maybe at least some of them, like planes needed for the Finland map

Yes, they will certainly be needed when the map is introduced... not holding my breath on that though.

Just bought the Hurricane, on sale as wouldn't pay more for such an old game.  Quite good to fly actually.

There are far worse tools to have in your kit than the Hurricane, be sure.

Is there a list anywhere for which Collector Planes fit into which campaigns in Career mode? Would be a handy table to have. Forgive me if it already exists.

There isn't really such a thing as an old game anymore. They are constantly developed and modified adding new features and technologies. DCS, WarThunder, Destiny, even World of Warcraft are old but not really since they are updated and add new features plus technologies.

Do you mind to share which ones of the new technologies are implemented in GB? I can think of only one: SATD ( Super Advanced Time Dilation). And I must say it's implemented perfectly ?

New clouds, New draw distance, New shader rendering, VR, diffused reflections. Those are 5 that have been introduced years after initial release but the reality is you don't care for an actual answer.

Back in the dot.com boom of the 90's I had an artificial lake built next to my estate. The missus wanted somewhere to swim without having to mix with commoners. Of course I had a secret agenda hidden from her majesty but you know, keep them happy and it saves a lot of hassle. I've always loved flying boats see, so I had this little beauty built as a bit of a runaround. Well I gotta lake so why not. That little flying boat was the love of my life and Cynthia next door was impressed. We flew to heaven and back a few times.

And then the dot.com boom went bust and I lost everything. Sold the bloody lot to pay off my debts and the missus took off with what remained and hooked up with an inside trader. She told me she loved me too. And Cynthia dissed me. Oh what a tangled web we weave.

So now I'm slumming it here, on a pension, in a shack, with nothing left but memories and a photograph.

But the question is @Trooper117 why are the devs not including flying boats, seaplanes in the collectors list? Can you exert some influence please. Thankyou.

I'm sure you'll see a Yak 3 as a collector's aircraft. :)

But will we be able to fly it in this series?

Have a nice day.

It’s more wishful thinking. At the glacial pace things are being released you’re right about me being dead and buried before my wishes comes thru.

The chance of me exerting any kind of influence on these geezers has 2 hopes... slim and eff all, and slim just left town.  ⚰️:dash:

They already work on it for 2 years, and when they finaly say what it is, it is suposed to be done.

But who will build missions for this series, or maintain MP servers and so on... if new project is separate game and its minimum as good as this.

Things will be happening in new game not here if there is new thing, especialy made by same devs. It will be in thier interest to make more ppl play new game then this one.

So to me its pointless to buy things for this game if it seams sone we will have new game by same devs, and all things here will not be useafull there.

I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way.

Curious to hear what you were expecting un the first place. They delivered exactly what they promised, a glider that glides and can be towed.

As part of some Normandie squadron related release perhaps? Konigsberg?

I won't bite into your invitation to an unnecessary back and forth, this forum has too much of it already.

Btw, I said that as a "me too" replying to a more cherished member of the comunity. Would you pick the same bone with him, me wonders.

Not picking any bones with anyone in particular, it's a plural "you" and anyone can chime in.

Cannot imagine what people were expecting from a glider in a flight sim like IL2, that is not close to something like what we got. Would you mind sharing what's the gap between expected and delivered?

Posted

I just picked up the glider as it's the first I've heard of it (I've been away).

I realise I can't add much as I've not actually flown it in game but what i expect is to be towed from launch to target and to try to land (safely) in a targeted field.

that's about it, it would be cool if one could then jump into a glider borne vehicle to drive after landing but that's not expected.

I'll feedback tomorrow if it lives up to *my* particular expectations.

I will note that recent additions to the game don't seem to be modled up to earlier standards (mosquito, il transport, c4 to name a couple) so it'll be interesting to see how the glider fares.

sorry to jump in but the convo direction took my eye.

Yeah, they don't listen to me either. I can't understand it. DON'T THEY KNOW WHO I AM! It seems being a respected, important and loved member of the community makes no difference. I mean, it might sound silly, but it's like they totally ignore me or something. Like I don't exist. Like I don't matter.

It's baffling.

LOL that was me, and that's because I modeled the cockpit for the one in the original IL2.

My goodness, that was quite the exercise building that.

I love that plane but had to really grit my teeth getting it off the runway!

You did a great job on the interior!
