DFLion Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 I am having some tank problems (probably because I don't include tanks very often in my aerial combat missions). I am creating 4 missions from 1, 2 x Tank, 1 British and 1 German and 2 x Air, 1 Allied and 1 Luftwaffe (flying over the Battle for Hill 112). I was just putting the finishing touches on the ground battle, 5 German tank columns and 5 British tank columns advancing towards Hill 112 for the ultimate battle. To check each columns road and cross country progress, I put each column individually on autopilot, which was working . All of a sudden, I can't get each column to travel on autopilot (move separately, or move at all?) - have I exceeded the number of columns for the computer/game memory? I am using the correct manual symbols to allow for ground movement. I need some advice here, because I can't complete the missions! PS There is a lot of German and British artillery pounding their target areas in the basic ground mission. Thanks, DFLion

(continued) I've attached a zip file of what I have done so far - perhaps somebody could have a look at the mission and see what the problem is? See my post above for the full explanation. Jaegermeister Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 (edited) @DFLion... What you have is this for an on road column The first waypoint needs to overlap the lead vehicle in the column like this and then they should move when you activate the waypoint, but assign the formation first... For on road formations, only use 1 or 2 waypoints up the road a good ways. I don't think it will follow more than 2 but that may have changed. Your off road formations should be fine, you can leave the waypoint somewhere up the road and use as many as you need to follow winding paths or whatnot. Also make sure everything is set to ground, if the waypoints are up in the air they will not be followed. Last thing, there is no limit to how many complex vehicles you can have, but anything over 30 including planes and complex tanks... ie _XXXname will start creating time dilation and slow motion flight. DFLion Posted December 20, 2023 Author Posted December 20, 2023 Thanks very much 'Jaegermeister' for your help with my tank column issues, and mission advice, much appreciated. I will alter all my first waypoints to overlap the lead vehicles and see how we go. I will also reduce the number of road waypoints. I did a mission similar to this in the old IL2 Sturmovik and wanted to redo it on the Normandy map. This was the decisive battle that helped the Allies break out of Normandy and led to the 'Falaise Gap' Typhoon attacks on the German retreating columns. DFLion 1

I have a Hill 112 mission in the Overlord Campaign as well. The text I have does not specify the exact spot they dropped 500 lb bombs on that day, but it was “just west of Caen” so I figured there was little doubt where the enemy tanks were.
