Navigation in fighting

I am playing a campaign in career mode in BF109 map Moscow. I play without icons on the map and into the mission. So I have to approach a plane and identify it before engaging fighting. Question : when the AI leader announces for example: bandits in the south low...does he speak about geographical or cartographic south? For example if the patrol flies  heading 35 and the AI leader announces bandits to the south… should I consider my heading 35 as noon and therefore the bandits would be 180 behind me or should I  turn from heading 35 to heading 180 according to my gyro? Thanks for the answers.

Compass heading was my understanding

First, compass heading, otherwise it wouldn't be south, but 6 o'clock.

Second, are you sure, it is your flightleader, because it is quite some time, since my flightleader told anything about attacking an enemy aircraft. My squadmates simply turn away and acclelerate, without telling anything. It might be the flightleader of another friendly fighter flight, who is engaging an enemy. For some reason, I don't understand, I hear other flights communicate ,but my flight members usually only call out, when they are wounded.

Radio comms in this game are very good at yelling TYPHOOOOON! super loud in your ears, but couldo do with some improvement in other areas.

I too cant remember many times I've been coordinated towards fighters by my flight leader. However you also hear other flights in the same channel, sometimes you think it is your FL and it isnt.

@Azdack additional to what I posted, two tipps for finding enemy aircrafts.

First, fly with HUD enabled, just those things disabled, you don't want. That way you can read the callouts in your preferred language, as I don't think you are German speaking, which means, you don't understand the German callsigns. That way you can identify the callsign of the calling pilot and notice if he is of your flight or one of the other friendly fighter flights that are in the air.

Second, When there is an enemy around you, your pilot will usually callout your callsign and which kind of aircraft he will attack in which direction and distance. This might also mean, the fighter, your pilot wants to attack is right on your six, so it is a good warning in some cases, too.

People listen to the brainless, scripted radio chatter and expect relevant information?
