The Hurricane's oil radiator?

I've been using one of those operation specs "aidé-memoires" for game craft specs, and something caught my attention. In the Hurricane's notes, it is mentioned that it has "manually operated water and oil shutters", but my preset buttons won't adjust no oil radiator flaps anywhere.

Indeed, going for a stroll around the plane, it only seems to have one single shutter, operated by the water radiator controls.

Maybe the sheet simply used the expression "manually controlled oil and water shutters" as a copy-and-paste measure, and the Hurri indeed only has one radiator. Or, maybe, it is me who didnt configure keys for it. Howerer I think I have all oil-related keys assigned, in a P47 for instance I can open/close three different things, it doesnt seem to be a fourth oil-related setting.

Btw, interestingly, wikipedia (yeah yeah I know) has this to say:

"Installed underneath the fuselage, the liquid-cooled radiator has a rectangular opening to its aft; this is covered by a hinged flap, allowing the pilot to control the cooling level. An atypical feature for the era was the use of Tungum alloy pipes throughout the cooling system.[36]"

What is that? A two-in-one water+oil radiator?

6. Oil System - The self-sealing oil tank, which has an effective capacity of 9 gallons, forms the port leading edge of the centre section. The oil passes through a filter before entering the engine and then through a cooler inside the coolant radiator. Pressure (54) and temperature (53) gauges are fitted on the instrument panel. When 9O-gallon fuel drop tanks are carried, an auxiliary oil tank of 4 gallons capacity is fitted behind the seat, the cock control for which is on the left-hand side of the seat, above the radiator flap control quadrant.

7. Coolant System - The system is thermostatically controlled, the radiator being by-passed until the coolant reaches a certain temperature. The header tank is mounted on the fireproof bulkhead and is fitted with a pressure relief valve. The air flow through the radiator is controlled by a flap lever in the cockpit.

@Trooper117 where is that quote from?

Interesting, the oil "cooler" is indeed housed inside the water radiator, or so I gather from that explanation. Thus one flap only. In the cockpit there is indeed only one, very ostensive, radiator shutter indicator - the "extra oil cock indicator" is also there btw.

I have the Hurricane IIA,IIB,IIC,IID and IV aircraft Air Ministry pilots notes, with the Merlin XX engine.

Thank you. I knew what it did and now how it works

It has an oil cock? Sydney Camm, you devil. you…

I’ll have to check but IIRC the water radiator as the larger unit has the manual control and the oil radiator inside is thus regulated by the water system position.
