I get the feeling as time goes on, that whatever the new module is, no one has yet guessed correctly as to what it is!

Want to put money on that?

That's actually the provenance of many of the surviving Corsairs here in America. They were sold off to collectors after the various South American governments no longer had need for them.

However, I don't agree with you insofar it concerns whether the series will be continued or if it'll be an entirely new game. Like many others, I like to develop campaigns (as well as the occasional mod), which I then share online. Developing a reasonably good campaign on a voluntary basis takes months or even years. Right now, there's little incentive to start a 1.5 years process of writing a campaign if for all we know in 2 years time, IL2 and most of its player base will move to a new series that's incompatible with the current one. I think the current lack of information about this hurts the amount and/or quality of player-made campaigns that are developed the coming years, and "The Announcement" would certainly make a difference here.

Well, this is indeed logical argument from your specialized perspective, but I still perceive it as partially irrelevant. It would be much more relevant if your campaigns were payware products (perspective of reduction of future sales) or made for coop (Are coop campaigns even possible in GB? Not an MP user myself, so I'm not familiar with that area I admit).

Otherwise, I'll have to disagree somewhat, for following reasons:

a) If the new project maintains some compatibilty with GB on mission editor and logic level (which I doubt, but let's presume it does), then great - some people will stay and play your campaigns here, while some will switch to a new platform and play them there;

b) If the new project is not compatible with GB at all, it doesn't matter, because it will certainly have much smaller number of planes and maps at initial release compared to all the content available in GB now. Thus - some people will still stay and play your campaigns here, while some will switch to the new platform. This gradual, intermediate period of community shifting will last for two years or so until new platforms gets more content and developer support for GB ends for good. Exactly same thing happened when CloD came and when GB came (then Stalingrad with only a handful of planes) - lots of folks still played Il-2 '46 for a long time, because it simply had much more content in it. I presume the same applied when the first chapter of FC came and part of WWI community still played RoF (I'm guessing here, 'cause I've never tried any of those).

c) In either case, those guys who don't like the new platform and don't intend do buy it (because of theater of ops, planeset or whatever), will stay here and play your campaigns. Conversely, those guys who are tired of some GB's shortcomings and can't wait to switch to the new platform, will dump GB and won't play your content anyway (unless the aforementioned compatibility is there).

All and all, no matter if 1C announces anything soon or not, or whatever backward compatibility remains, or whenever the new platforms is released, it won't change the outcome. Which is - some people will stay with GB for at least a year or two after new release (so maybe ~3 years total from now), and some people will switch sooner. To put it bluntly, whether the announcement happens now or in next few months, noone but you is going to be bothered about your motivation or lack thereof.

On the positive side, there's clearly still some "shelf life" and development effort left in GB, even if swayed towards cooperation with 3rd parties and WWI it seems.

FC's release split (an already waning) ww1 community and has never come close to replicating RoF in terms of online players and forum activity, in RoF's hay-day at least.

Many fell into the 'hole of indicision'.. and went off to play other things.

In my opinion, ww2 online numbers and forum activity look to have been on a long, slow slide for some time.

So if we get a new platform, I can see GB being left behind in a year or two.

Outside of DCS and WT, I don't see a bright future for combat flight simming.

At this point I wonder why we know the future of FC -- FC3 and after -- but not that of the "Battle of..." series? The FC series is part of IL-2 GBs, it's not like they're two separate games.

Perhaps FC was the path of least resistance for them to do something with. Good for WWI fans, not so good for WWII fans.

I get the feeling that we're getting FC3 and 4 to 'finish what was started'.

I'm not convinced they'll make much money out of it, but if it breaks even I'm sure they'll be happy to have concluded it.

The lack of ww2 announcements makes me expect effectively a new game, and probably little to no more maintenance of GB once the new project is up and running.

Not that I know anything of course, so could easily be wrong !

I suggest going back in time and listening to Q/A’s with Jason and Han, then watching the more recent Q/A with Albert and Daniel. If a lightbulb doesn’t go off then I don’t know what to say.

They better have the Channel Map (Felixstowe, Brandenburg and HD.2) or planes that weren’t in RoF including just field mods., either way I’m getting FC4 — loved flying the Felixstowe in RoF!

I just wonder why we can’t get an announcement as to what planes we’ll get or where it will take place for the next installment.

At this point with everything they said only question is will we get only MiG-15 vs Sabers or they will add few airplanes for thouse two to shoot down... one or two prop based things... AI 3 engine bomber... and will pilots speak russian or broken Korean on the coms

Ngl that was one of my thought but yea it would be to short for a module maybe in 15 to 20 years when we have the aircraft. ?

But yea that why I chosen The war of independents for Israel.

Tbh like I 've said I would like to have a desert map for once so the desert skins would actually have a reason to be there.

Regardless of what comes next, I'm going to find it very difficult to talk myself into buying it if it's not WW2.

In my youth I knew everything, then I could have told you the path they have chosen with 100% certainty. With age I have acquired wisdom. Wisdom is the knowledge that you really don't knew anything. So @LukeFF, before you grow old and become wise, please tell us. Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please.

Not difficult for me at all, no WW2 no buy. I invested in FC1 and 2 just to support, no more of that .

And if WWII it would hugely depend on where.

LoL, believe me, I want to share what I know so much, but I gotta stay in line with what our marketing people want to do. It's ultimately them that decide what and when we can share information.

I dont think posting a 5 second clip of you giving clues via the medium of interpretive dance is asking too much personally.

But then again riddles are a good way too

They are in charge of marketing for all of 1CGS, so means a lot more than just the IL2 brand. ? The only thing more I can say at this point is that the wait will definitely be worth it.

I hope so but speaking of other branches at least we know when Clod next one is going to be announced so that is something I can look forward to in the mean time.

Don't hold your breath about any CLOD announcements or actual patches or new versions.

No - we know only how far the can has been kicked down the road this time.

I prefer the approach taken with GB.

Good point, let´s start with something easy - Luke , can you confirm it won´t be Pirates of the Caribean - submarine hunt off the coast of French Guiana?

This Douglas B-18B Bolo is equipped with a magnetic anomaly detector in a tail boom. (U.S. Air Force)
