Really enjoyed using PWCG in BoN. It runs buttery smooth in VR, and is very immersive.

Thought I'd try the latest FC version, but I'm getting a lot of stutter in it in VR (Rift S), particulalrly in large dogfights over Lille, which I don't see in the career campaign or quick missions.

I'm running a 13900K and a 3080Ti with most settings on high, but the situation doesn't seem to improve when I dial them down, and bizarrely the FPS from the in-game counter never seems to change, even when the action crawls to a slideshow at times.

I wondered if it's because Pat has included many more ground objects than are placed in the career campaign?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Paul

Yes, I've noticed performance is far worse in PWCG missions than in the official career mode. Even reducing the ground target settings doesn't seem to make much difference.

Still sticking with PWGC for the aces though, but the other bugs are a pain.

So it's not just me.

Turning down the ground settings didn't work for me either, Mulbin. I only fly in VR, so I don't think I'll be able to use it.

It's odd that I have no such problems in the Great Battles version

No, it's not just you.  I suspect @PatrickAWlson has been experiencing the same issue himself and I had time dilation in the beta on a top end system (see the post and thread below).  I haven't had a chance to go back and try it again with his new lowest settings yet, but it sounds like you have.  So, now I am concerned that there is something about the new FC maps that is creating the issue with PWCGFC (since as you note, it doesn't happen on the WWII maps).  Pat has always said that PWCG pushes the GB engine to it's limits.  I hope it is solvable and that Pat eventually has the time and inclination to work through it.  However, considering he has been a one man show for so long, I could certainly see him taking a break when he has no good way to communicate directly with the folks who write and maintain the code.

Thanks Varibraun

from Pat's May post, it sounds as though he was experiencing similar problems in VR, but that he may have fixed it when he got OpenXR sorted. I'm using OpenXR, and still getting the slowdown in FC.

Pat's done a marvellous job as a one man band, providing campaigns long before the orignal developers. I hope that he can find the time and inclination to look at this.

A combination of getting OpenXR working and reducing ground level activity to low worked.  I also wrote some code that is used for both FC and BoS to reduce ground level activity based on the mission type - i.e. less activity for a fighter patrol.  It's not perfect but it's better.

Many thanks Pat,

Re. lowering ground activity, is it just a case of moving Ground Density in the simple config option to Low or Ultra Low?

Is the new code you mention in 15.1.1?

Yes to both.

Thank you!  I just flew my first mission in 15.1.1 (fighter patrol) with all Simple Config settings on the new lowest setting (except CPU allowance which I set to high for a 13900).  Flying in VR Reverb G2 OpenXR (4090) and everything stayed at 90 FPS, no stutters, and no time dilation.  I still had good action in the air (7 kills).

I will experiment with turning up some of the PWCG settings, but I am happy playing with what I saw tonight (except I think I need to turn up the AI skill level adjustment).  :)

Thanks both, but that hasn't worked for me. Still getting stutters, even on takeoff when looking at the ground.

Can't see why it shouldn't work in PWCG when the campaigns are fine - 13900k, 3080Ti, and a Rift S which isn't a particulalrly taxing VR set.

Probably something at my end - will keep trying!

So, I uninstalled PWCGFC, reinstalled, set all options to low / ultra low - and now it works perfectly! Not a single stutter!!

Thanks both!
