I have been playing with the latest virtual desktop beta and can get a consistent bitrate of 400mbps with ethernet-usb adaptor (as detailed by @Hetzer-JG51

same with my setup 6900xt/22.11.2 drivers but with 866Mbps wi-fi connection, latency is around 45 ms in my case.

Latency seems a bit much at those bitrates, wouldn‘t the H.265 10 but codec offer better visuals at lower latency?

HEVC 10bit is still not working for AMD cards - at least not in latest BETA version 1.27.2

- Release Notes

@everyone To participate in the BETA test, switch to the BETA channel through the Virtual Desktop store page in the Meta Quest phone app or on the website: https://www.oculus.com/experiences/quest/2017050365004772/. Scroll down to the version number, click it and select the BETA channel.
You will also need to manually install the BETA Streamer from here: https://download.vrdesktop.net/files/beta/VirtualDesktop.Streamer.Setup.exe

• Added HEVC 10-bit codec option, increasing the image quality especially with color gradients (Nvidia 1000 series or newer only)
• Added H.264+ codec option that allows a VR bitrate of up to 400 Mbps (all headsets except Quest 1)
• Improved foveated encoding to prioritize bitrate at the center of the image with H.264/H.264+ (Nvidia only)
• Increased maximum desktop bitrate to 100 Mbps (all headsets except Quest 1)
• Switched to OpenXR on Quest which brings a new Passthrough environment
• Local dimming is now enabled on Quest Pro
• Added Italian keyboard layout
• Fixed see-through monitor issue at some resolutions in the Modern Apartment
• Fixed resume of desktop stream playing catch-up
• Fixed auto-connect to not trigger for new computers
• Fixed game compatibility with Narcosis
• Added option to toggle local dimming on Quest Pro in Settings/Streaming tabs
• Fixed HEVC with AMD GPUs
• Fixed automatic bitrate limit when not wired

Leave your feedback in the beta-testing channel. Thanks!

I need to get an rtx 40-something!!!

In terms of game play the latency is fine with h264+ at 400mbps. The decoding latency is usually around 10-12 ms. It looks a bit high in the images I have posted. If I drop the bitrate to 300 the decoding latency drops to 7-8ms.

in my experience latency is acceptable until 75ms or so

VD is still not best optimized for AMD, but HEVC works fine in latest beta :)

I am using 1.27.2 and still have a blurred line to the far right of the right screen with HEVC. This hasn't changed for me since the stable version. Have you noticed any significant differences in image quality between HEVC at 150 and H264+ at 400.

I felt HEVC had slightly warmer picture in yesterdays online session, it's hard to quantify the change, but I will play with HEVC for while now - also, it's regularly slower (HEVC 150 mbit vs h264@400 mbit) for a few ms in decoding.

I use amd mbo 5.05.16.529 and amd gpu 22.11.2 (this last as per VD recommendation) drivers, 5800x3d and 6900xt water cooled.

Out of curiosity, do you not see an artefact to the right of your field of view with these older GPU drivers? With more recent drivers, it is visible if you look to the right: some described it as a squashing of the rightmost 10-20% of the image. It is hard to explain, but I'll tryit as if the original image is sliced along vertical lines into 8 slices, which are then reassembled seamlessly on the display, except that for some reason slice 7 is squashed by half in the horizontal direction. If it happens, it is very noticable if you look to the right while turning your head, you see a vertical line through which the image perspective appears discontinuous.

I think that VD recommended drivers and beta have fixed the issue you're describing (for me) - both sides of the picture look good for me with this upper combo of drivers. screenshot of the right wing and eye is showing lens distortion, in game I can't spot any previous hevc bug

I only see this with HEVC but not with h264. I reverted back to the old (VD recommended) drivers with the stable version but this did not help so I just use the current AMD drivers. I've not tried since 1.27.2. That said, the quality with h264+ at 400 Mbps is really good so I'll just stick with this I think.

somebody mentioned that VD beta testers are working on new AMD driver recommendations, in the meantime if you want to make a clean AMD install, DDU will help ^^

Thank you both! I use h264 in the meantime. I'll make sure to make it DDU clean if I go back to 22.11.2
