This was interesting.

I have been drawing on my upcoming simpit and by coincidence it's looking almost exactly as the yours!

Are you happy with this setup or is there something you wished were different?

You don't have a blueprint of it with all the measurements, do you?

I'm mostly thinking of the height of the seat regarding the pedals.

I have the same pedals and my new Virpil throttle and Ka-50 panel will arrive today ?

Is it comfortable with the panel behind the throttle?

I play in Vr so it needs to be easy to reach all the buttons.

It's based on this, plywood and MDF boards bolted to the sides and a panel between for the PC to sit on. The monitor is on an arm. There's also a long plywood board for the floor with aluminium plate screwed to it (for aesthetics). :)

I also have a pair of BK LFE bass-shakers (the big ones), one behind the seat and the other behind the pedals. They are at around 80% on the amp and vibrate my fillings without getting even luke-warm, unlike the POS Daytons I had (which all went Chernobyl and broke at the drop of a hat).

I had a look at that rig but how do you find the seat?

Is it easy to turn around and check your six?

Since it's made for racing and most racing seats is pretty "deep" in the backrest, I am curious to find out what you think of it?

Does it work good with a center mounted stick with extension even without a cutout in the seat?

Comfortable?

I am 190 cm and 100 kg.

I use Necksafer for looking back, so zero issues with that. The seat came with the frame.
The extension is the gooseneck one from Virpil but even a straight stick would have no issues as the base is flush with the seat. The ergonomics are pretty much the same as a RL Fw190 cockpit actually and I find the entire setup very comfortable. I'm 6' 5" (197cm) and 95kg. :)

Edit: As you can see, I've added an office-chair/car-seat cushion to the seat, without that there's zero lumbar support and it was very uncomfortable.

Thanks for your reply.

I am aware of Necksafer, but for the moment I choose to turn around for checking my six. It feels more natural to me (it is!).

But I will probably have to use Necksafer in the future when my neck starts to hurt.

If you would try to turn around in that seat, do you feel it would be harder to do so than in a regular seat??

No, it's no harder than the seat I previously made myself that was more 'cockpit realistic'. Just lean forward a bit and twist.

I have a question for those of you who have a "realistic" simpit with a center mounted stick with extension.

How hard is it to get in and out of the pit?

I am getting second thoughts about building or getting a pre fabricated rig because of this.

Maybe I just build or buy a good desk/stand with multiple attachment points for the periferals.

What is your opinion about this matter?

Hey, Rani.

I am admiring your instrument panel. Are the dials real or hand crafted? Your wendehorizont / artificial horizon Fl.22415 is particularly impressive. I have been trying to find an .stl to 3D print one but have yet to find one. In searching, I did find this great site: https://discord.com/channels/1085698163878395944/1085703964839919617

Don't forget that Authentikit has come out with a 109 throttle build. Check it out here: https://download.authentikit.org/gallery/index.php?image%2F146-bf109-throttle%2F=

Thanks mate...no instruments don t work but add a nice view to the pit...

The instruments  have been made made by myself..

The base is 3d printed, than I added a nice web imagine of the instruments, vinyl glue, screws, plastic glass ( from cover box) and elctric wire to seal all by short lines of acrylic glue...

You cannot believe, but the  horizontal instrument is made with: square base from a plastic box, an ashtry, a timing belt and the glass from a plastic cover of bra box. After construction a flat black spray paint  ......looolll??

Get out of town! That is brilliant. Works perfectly and appeals to my scratch build mentality. I cobbled together my KG13 fire button from the spigot of a box wine container. Good on you. Proving a man with an ashtray, a brassiere and roll of tape can achieve wonders.

This is my NLR Boeing rig.

I had to do a diy solution for my center stick with extension and the same for attaching my new Virpil throttle and Ka-50 panel. I also made my own keyboard stand because the supplied hardware made it unnecessarily difficult to enter and exit the seat.

I'm very happy with the result but I am also thinking NLR made a huge mistake when they didn't make Virpil and VKB compatible with the existing mounting hardware.

Same thing about the center stick with extension, it would have been an easy thing to do if they gave it a thought.

The NLR kit is good and includes a lot of stuff BUT is missing out on some important things. IMG_20230817_204425612.thumb.jpg.cb02876139de291be204ec4eb8b1673d.jpgThat's my opinion.

@Customizer171 Is that the first iteration or second of the NLR F/S system or second? From your screenshots, it looks to be the first edition.

I was glad they came out with the second version, it solves so many fitment problems I foresee with my controllers. TMWH HOTAS, BlackHog button box, K51 trim box and TMWH F-16 TQS stand-alone button box when it ships.

Thanks for the pictures.

It's the NLR Boeing Military Edition.

As far as I know it only exist one version of this rig.

NLR has recently released a new rig consisting of two parts that could be used separately or together, maybe that's the one you are thinking of?

I was thinking of that one too, but it was considerably more expensive and I actually prefer a one piece rig instead of the new rig, consisting of two parts.

I just wish that NLR make an upgrading kit to solve the shortcomings of the model I have.

Nice Swedish there ?

Wow, plenty of you have some really nice set ups, and I am impressed by all of the improvisation as well. Thanks everyone for showing off their cockpits.

Anyway I am pretty new to this game (purchased it in May), and have only had a joystick for a few weeks, albeit two decades ago I used to play a couple of other combat flight sims.

My Il-2 Cockpit

I'm just using a pretty basic laptop (and it's working okay), that is primarily used for a suite of training courses that I am doing. Yet having a windows based computer again, inspired me to stop living vicariously through watching other people play the Il-2 games on YouTube.

That said it's been a bit of an uphill learning curve, through the past few weeks, of game settings and flying stuff and mostly crashing rather than landing (thankfully that's becoming rare). Although the navigation part has been easy, since I had years of previous professional land navigation (and some air) experience to draw on.

One thing I ended up doing, was creating my own custom key-map (which is still being slightly tweaked) for my custom key settings, which is helping me a lot.

So far the only plane I can take off and mostly land properly, is the Spitfire IX/XVI (I can even plant bombs pretty accurately, following 2nd Tactical Air Force report on their tactics). I also chose the game Spitfire IX, to learn with first, since I have years, of up-close familiarity with Spitfire aircraft in person. I am now also starting to learn the Hurricane II and Typhoon as well. Thanks to generous people on YouTube, this forum, Discord and reading various aircraft manuals and notes etc from the 1940s.

That shared, I hope you all have a great day.

Cheers,

Daniel.

:good:

Wow!

This is a sign of skillful hands.

Start training with Spitfires, with their mighty motors that make him wobble with powerful jet torque, and zigzag along the runway.

Not the easiest aircraft for initial training.

Sincerely!

Thanks @Sayan, I can't claim any skill, I have experienced plenty of that zigzag and wobble. Although fortunately I'm now starting to get better at the landings.

That said. I'm very keen to give all of the planes in IL-2 Great Battles a good go in along the way as well.

Does anyone know where to find good information about ergonomy of cockpit?

Height and angle of joystick between legs relative to seat height, distance with pedals, etc..

These are the dwgs I used. For rudder pedal position relative to seat I also took measurements from my car.

Nice Rig Sir. Love my Virpil CM3 and Sharka Panel, they are just so well built. One thing that would further your flying experience would be a 200mm extension with a MonsterTech deep drop mount. Honestly, my GF III with the 200mm extension gives me so much better feel and control of my in sim flying experience. I never would have known if I didn't just jump right in and try it. I highly recommend it.
