Anybody having problems in FC Career mode with defensive Balloon protecting missions?

Is it a bug or do I have to run out of fuel before the mission is finished?

I love the career mode, but it definitely needs some work.

Well, according to Devblog 344, they are adding photo and artillery missions to the Normandy career, so perhaps that will boost interest in these missions and make improvements and fixes a higher priority. Not quite the same as working directly on the FC career mode, but will still help with those mission types.

As has been explained, that's because of the limited plane set right now.

When start from east to west the northern planes crash into the trees (the gap is too small, also some trees in the south, my character survived not long enough to check this out ?) I recommend the lumberjack cut some ?

Maybe he means on the ground is always maximum wind 1 meter/second ? I assume AI will have problems with harder conditions? ( Especially Gothas!!!)

I've played several careers in 1917 timeframe. The weather is always calm (no significant wind) and there is some turbulence below clouds.

Don't remember the squadrons, but there are a few that start wrong (tents and/or trees).

On the HQ map several other squadrons (not being the one you fly in) are "unpopulated" and you cannot transfer to them.

I'm hoping the career mode gets some attention from the devs, but I can perfectly understand if they wait untill all the available assets are online.

In the meantime I'll row this boat with whatever I have. No problem, still love this sim.

Can you tell me what plane and time frame? I will look at it. It might be the spotter logic or not gut I would need an example of the mission to know

I am also having problems with the balloon defence missions. Just got done flying around a balloon for 1.5 hrs., no flares or instructions seen or given.

Hmmm, most easy answer is with any plane I tried?. I think every fighter squad will get this mission type, I started a lot of careers with Pfalz 3 and 12, also with Bristol etc…. In no case had a Mission success

I have the same problem.

 

Moreover the flight just circles around the balloon even when there are e/a in the vicinity.

 

Seems like a couple of triggers missing in the mission file.

 

Shame you can't skip missions in Career Mode like you can in PWCG.

Still not get the point of this mission type. On which way I will receive instructions? Still never saw the balloon I have to protect shoot a flare. Maybe I miss it or I miss a text message in my VR Google’s? For usual always the same procedure: When I arrive a balloon attack is already in progress. These planes fly around in the area until they where shot down and not defending themselves. Later will be some traffic in the surrounding, attackers with escort incoming and I fight em until I am damaged or my ammo runs out. But never get a text message or saw a flare. I am not sure I make a mistake, I have not patience enough, I missed signal or message or there is something wrong. The hud was always active to receive messages. If I remember right I get a text message when I arrive to protect ground forces in WW2 right? Is here anyone who ever had success in this mission so far?  Maybe @LukeFF can ask how it should look like?

I cant say I've seen any flares either. Not as bad as bomber intercept missions where the fighters are directed by radio!

Not exactly but it is the same functionality that was designed as a radio transmission.

 

I looked at the spotter target logic but I didn’t really look at how the flares are triggered. The spotters work again now so you should be getting an icon targeting specific planes when they get within a certain range. If you have icons off, you would only get a text message saying there are targets and a direction, but that may be turned off with the radio messages.
 

I will see if I can generate a new balloon cover mission when I get a chance.

@JG4_Moltke1871, could you please upload a mission file that shows this problem? Our QA people have tried to reproduce it, from both the Attack and Defend sides, but the issue isn't showing up for them.

Here it is.

This mission was typical, my squad circel above the balloon while its constantly under attack until the balloon was destroyed. Squad continue circel until low fuel and rtb. Only random AI engage the attackers

This is still happening. Yesterday I flew a mission with No 4 Squadron AFC, 2/4/1918. Our Camels got to the balloon patrol area. 5 Pfalz DIIIa's were already there, but had made no attempt on the balloons. 2 Camels from another unit circled above and did nothing. Our planes destroyed the Pfalz flight and hung around. No more enemy planes showed so we eventually flew off. 1-Enemy did not attack balloons. 2-Friendly planes just circled. 3-No flares or rockets. Mission failed.

career-6-beau chretien-1917.2024-01-06_11-03-42_00 (2).zipCan confirm. Just flew a mission with Lafayette Escadrille 124. Defended the balloon. All attackers shot down or chased off. Flew home and got a "failed mission". (I waited for a while around the balloon then decided to fly home before I ran out of fuel).

Fixed in the latest update! I just "completed" my first balloon defense mission.

I have never seen a balloon fire a flare in career mode, but i usually complete the missions successfully.  currently flying older Albs in 1917, Jastas 4 & 6
