Greetings, Pilots!


As I wrote for patch 036, it's been a long time since the last patch ... too long as it turned out biggrin1.gif : We accumulated one to many change in that time. Well here're the fixes.


*** Fix: Connection problems to servers and error on spawning in all variants of HurricaneMkIIc (same cause) [Artist]

*** Fix: AI Bombers bomb spacing field now enabled on creation of a new air group [Oskar]

*** Aircraft at takeoff waypoint are not forced to act as line abreast formation for takeoff anymore [Oskar]

*** All Campaigns, Quick Missions, Single Missions, and Training Missions: resaved .mis files to resolve an issue introduced in the last patch that caused in-flight aircraft to crash with their wingmen on mission start (thank you DD-FT_). [cybermat47]

*** Campigns "Their Finest Hour", "Rising from the Ashes", and "On Ne Passe Pas!" and Single Missions "Battle for Biggin Hill", "Unending Onslaught", and "The Kanalkampf": changed He 111 loadouts to 32x 50kg bombs dropped at 20m intervals. [cybermat47]

*** Campaign "Their Greatest Challenge": added No. 601 SQN Hurricanes, No. 602 SQN Spitfires, and No. 235 SQN Blenheims to mission 10. To depict the events of August 18th 1940, the Blenheims will scramble from Thorney Island as the attacking Stukas approach and defend the airfield. [cybermat47]

*** Campaigns "Their Finest Hour", "Their Greatest Challenge", "Desert Hawks", "Eagles Over Tobruk", "On Ne Passe Pas!" and "Rising from the Ashes": added new mission success scripts - success is now based on player survival (thank you Yo-Yo). Mission death slides have also been added, and final mission failure debriefs have been revised (English only for now). [cybermat47]

*** Campaign "Rising From the Ashes": changed smoke in missions 1 and 2 from black oil fire smoke to grey building fire smoke. [cybermat47]

*** Single Missions "As Above, So Below", "Darkness Over Derna", and "Dawn Over the Desert": added Commonwealth artillery emplacements at Sidi Bu Amud. [cybermat47]

*** Single Mission "Aftershocks": Revised Blenheim waypoints so that they will no longer fly over hostile AA and airfields while returning to base, fixed wind setting that did not match briefing, update mission slide and icon. [cybermat47]

*** Single Missions "Battle on the Somme" and "The Kanalkampf": fixed waypoints for escorting Bf 109s and updated slides to match updated '5.StG 2' skin. [cybermat47]

*** Single Mission "Darkness Over Derna": corrected error in briefing and revised spacing between Wellingtons - they are now closer together. [cybermat47]

*** Single Mission "Falco Assault": added new mission in which CR.42 fighter-bombers take part in the Battle of Gazala while Kittyhawks attack German supply lines. [cybermat47]

*** Single Mission "The Kanalkampf": added 40mm bofors to convoy tanker and changed tanker's skin to default. [cybermat47]

*** Single Mission "Martlets over the Mediterranean": changed Ju 87 B-2/trops to Ju 87 B-2s to match images of Italian Ju 87s, applied the 'Italian Pichiatello' skin to all Ju 87s, and updated briefings and slides to match. [cybermat47]

*** Skin "5.StG 2": sub-par elements of this skin have been updated. [cybermat47]

*** Skin "Italian Pichiatello": added to Ju 87 B-2. [cybermat47]

*** Skins "Spitfire Europe Late 1940-Early 1941" and "TFS Spit IIa EBZ Observer Corps a02 (Black Left Wing)": updated so that the oil radiator is now completely black. [cybermat47]

I fired up CloD today after this update. In both quick missions and single missions the field in the center of the menu where normally the aircraft can be changed and the player can pick which aircraft is theirs is completely blank now. I have no way of changing any of the aircraft or their load-outs or which plane I want to control.

 

Is anyone else having this issue since the patch or is it just my installment that is messed up?

The same thing happens to other people, there are messages on ATAG and the Steam forums about it.

In my case this problem does not occur, I can choose the planes as usual

 

In any case, it would not hurt to verify the files on Steam

I've noticed that there are many mid-air collisions (from Falco Assault and is prevalent in almost every Single and Quick Mission):

 

In this scene, at least 5 planes were lost very early on due to a mid-air collision

Since installing the 5.036 patch, I’ve experienced an entire flight of He-111 collides with each other in QM . Not one survived , didn’t need to shoot any down…..

Houston....... we in SP/FMB have a problem!

 

After checking my missions [ original and custom] and campaigns  [ original and custom ] collisions are the order of the day.

Not so. Depending on the number of aircraft per flight, 3 abreast is still with us

Patch 037 has straightened the take off run in 3 abreast [ please please get rid if this !!] but the aircraft still fly extremely close after take off and invariably collide.

Setting waypoint 1 [ first after take off ] to 'close' 'near' 'middle' 'far' seems to have no effect. The default spacing is way too close.

Also when returning from a mission, your wingman invariably crashes into you trying to form up en route to base.

I also noticed a high number of losses in aircraft that are airstart spawned. Playing back the recording, most of the losses are due to collisions and not enemy action!!

The default spacing is not right. As previously mentioned by DD_FT, to change the flight spacing in all of one's accumulated missions..... "it ain't gonna happen"

IMHO All of the above has made the sim almost unflyable.

Three questions:

Why did we need the flight  spacing option in the first place? The default distance was changed to a wider spacing quite some time ago and has worked fine since then.

Why 3 abreast when taking off? This has destroyed multiple aircraft taking off together [ as in the western desert ] when more than one runway has been created.

Does nobody check these patches before they are implemented?

 

Apart from all of the above, the rest of the patch is most welcome.

Here's a possible work-around (don't know if it breaks anything else though):

 

  • Go to C:\Users\...\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\mission\quick
  • Delete the 9 files named "custom", i.e. custom.mis, custom.briefing and the 7 files named as custom_XX.briefing
  • Open CloD, fly your preferred quick mission (e.g. Cross-Country) and then exit the mission and CloD
  • The 9 "custom" files will have re-appeared in C:\Users\...\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\mission\quick
  • Take a copy of custom.mis, rename it as desired (e.g. testQM.mis)
  • Open the renamed copy with Notepad
  • Find where the aircraft type is defined, and insert the following line: Formation LINEABREAST

 

For example:


[BoB_RAF_B_105Sqn.21]
  Flight0 D
  Class Aircraft.BlenheimMkIV
  Formation LINEABREAST
...

 

  • Save the file, and move it to: C:\Users\...\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\missions 
  • Open CloD, go to Single Player, then Single Mission - your edited .mis file should appear in the list, e.g. testQM.mis
  • Select it, click the Custom button, and you should be able to change aircraft

 

I think the missing "Formation" line is the issue

I've only tried it with the Cross-Country quick mission

Obviously the Cross-Country mission only has one aircraft in it; the other missions may be a bit more fiddly to sort out

Yes, this happened because of a (for us!) unexpected sideeffect: The introduction of "Air Groups now have formation and spacing set at waypoints" feature deprecated the "formation" entry in the airgroup ... unfortunately the "Custom" button not only reads the .mis file (not unexpected ;-)), but also made an utterly unneccessary check for exactly that "formation" entry (unexpected!) and ignores the airgroup if not found.

 

We will publish the fix asap.

Yes, have the same problem — for all the QM and some, but not all, of the SM. It seems random for the SM as to which missions have details and which do not. A fix in progress?

We've identified what went wrong and are making final tests. Then we'll publish a fix.

 

We're really sorry for this, but sometimes things like this slip through ... we always try to guard against the expected  ... and then the unexpected happens ?

Maybe I spoke too soon...

The 'Script' option in the 'Group Properties' in FMB seems to have disappeared.

Triggers are now defunct, or is it only me?

You're right Ace, it is gone.

You can still use the feature adding "SpawnFromScript 1" in the mis-file under relevant flight section.

(and again if you save the mission in the editor after that)

Thanks for the tip.

Is this  feature gone for good or do we wait for another fix, as your reply sounded kind of permanent?

Without it, Trigger set up becomes a real chore.

Only TFS can answer that but hopefully it will come back in a future patch (I use it too in my templates and missions)

Scary to realize that major changes are made with no user input at all.

It also seems that the Devs don't even know of these problems.

Hmm.. I got the sense that the devs are users; just, seriously more talented than me. And there's no shortage of 'advice' when things do go wrong.

 

Building on someone else's code - not my idea of fun.

 

Anyone else remember y2k?
