ICDP Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 I removed the holes from the MiG-3 wing undersides to make it more historically accurate. The changes have been submitted to the devs for inclusion at some point. 7 1

cripplehawk Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Canadian Escorts Based on the codes on the fusalage (AU) these guys are part of the No. 421 Squadron RCAF. Another RAF squadron 297 also uses this code but they operate Lancaster bombers 4
FliegerAD Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Killing Winston Churchill On June 1st 1943, elements of 14./KG 40 operated far west of what they usually did. Officially their job was the usual, cover German U-Boats from Allied air attacks, but they attacked a lone C-47. First Lieutenant Bellstedt spotted it first, could not identify it properly but concluded it must have been an enemy aircraft, and set its left engine on fire. At that point, Flight Leader Fist Lieutenant Hintze realized it was a civilian craft and ordered to cease all attacks. But it was too late. The C-47, which had indeed been the civilian flight BOAC 777, crashed into the sea with no survivors. Among the dead were many celebrities, most notably Leslie Howard. To this day, speculation exists if flight 777 was deliberated targeted in order to kill Winston Churchill, who the German intelligence believed was on that flight. This is highly unlikely. In fact, when the German pilots were informed about the celebrities on board 777, they were appalled - they would have attempted to force land the C-47 rather than shoot it. Still it is a tragic story, yet also a fascinating one. (at this point, it is well possible that most if not all of the Ju 88s of KG 40 still had the green paint job, but I like the night fighter/improvised Bay of Biscay colours better) 3
