Allied Flak Bursts Should be white, German Black - Historically accurate.

Due to the different explosives used during WW1 Allied anti aircraft bursts appeared very different to German. The Allied bursts were very very light grey, practically white like clouds, while German bursts were black. As you can imagine this was a very important visual cue for pilots to tell what nationality the plane in the middle of the bursts was!

As far as I can tell its all just black/dark grey in FS so we are sadly lacking this real world visual cue making authentic tactics less possible.

Is it possible for this to be modelled correctly? I think RoF had this feature, but hadn't got it quite right as the allied was still dark grey, not the authentic white/ very light grey.

I believe there used to be a mod for this in ROF. I'd be willing to bet someone would make one if you posted this in the MODS thread.

It shouldn't have to be a mod. It was a defining aspect of the WW1 air war. Perhaps @LukeFF or @Wardog5711 can raise it with the devs and provide feedback?

I've passed along the report in the beta testing forum.

My only concern would be if white flack would be somewhat invisible?

I mean... clouds aren't invisible though ?

Its not really about visibility, its about making the game a more authentic simulation. Allied flak was white. Pilots in WW1 used it constantly as an early warning system to tell them what nation's aircraft was in the distance and we are missing that vital bit of strategy which makes the game less realistic (unless you use nametags or enemy cameras).

Even if white was harder to see I'd still want it because its authentic, the same way I want a plane that can stall, guns that jam or water on my goggles in clouds.

I think RoF was able to have the mod as 777 nearly got it right... they gave the two sides slightly different shades of flak, but just got the colour wrong (they used dark grey instead of white). I'm not sure IL2 actually has seperate textures for each side's flak.

That would be another detail which will add +1 to immersion.
