awesome thank you for the steps. I will see if I can get an airfield copied and edited. Is the chart/taxiway part necessary if we only ever have player controlled planes? We dont intend to ever have friendly AI fly with us as Axis. The only AI on the map is the allied bomber and escort flights.

Thanks!

Thanks!

I would say:

-Take off with taxying takes extremenly much time. In general not required. I take off always from runway.

-Landing: it is easy to modify the taxyway for landing and it is more importent, because sometimes, as shown in my instructions, the planes will roll away from the airfield or crash.

-If you always move and rotate the airfield helpers group and the fakefield together, as I have shown, manual modification are not required.

-For the next airfields I suggest to copy the new Achmer, because there the taxying path after landing is already on the airfield area.

If you have maybe created 1 or 2 airfields please sent the groups to me. In return I could maybe create ca. 2-3 of the other airfields mentioned by you next week for you (and me).

Oh this is fantastic. I was born and raised in Bergen op Zoom, so seeing Woensdrecht is quite special, thanks!

Hello Krakenskulls,

Great that you started to modify EMG.

For your information a link to my current EMG Germany 43-44 (not completed, only for testing)

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/90xuqcmaz9hki99vgo4tp/zzzbak03-IL2-EMG-v84-Germany1943-44-not-completed-only-for-testing.zip?rlkey=3i216o0vnxo187t5x659cq85a&st=yullv2oq&dl=0

With Achmer for test:

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/k7bu7d2pepy6qtgjorvfz/zzzbak04-IL2-EMG-v84-Germany1943-44-with-Achmer-for-test.zip?rlkey=eqjny43y1vlgs1jpcwlago55g&st=86w337fw&dl=0

You will find some new airfields in the Frankfurt Rhein-Main area / I live there.

In general you can find some informations here:

(maybe some already outdated)

https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/83308-some-notes-for-usage-modifications-of-emg-by-vander-update-14032024-not-completed/

In general if you want to create a new EMG Airfield:

Open the "CoopTemplate_RHINELAND.Mission"

set as Working the Airfields:

image.png.3cad7c3b5bf1049c1d37ead3d3619ab1.png

select 1 one of the original airfields by Vander.

And check if the location of the red / blue flights in respect of the runway fits to the new airfield:

Maybe Deelen for Achmer (don't have time to test)

image.png.6533f025c74ce0d735e1190806faa216.png

Mark both the helpers and the fakefiled always simultaneously and copy them

image.png.483743f0e185f3d75da3e2801e3c958b.png

Place them roughly at Achmer and rename them:

image.png.f0e06ad888301aa08b9d57a120105c34.png

Now rotate move them a bit together

image.png.429c4c50a4c615365fd1ef931d624bb9.png

And check if there is space for red / blue flights:

image.png.e4011bb61c061d6a142cd2d1cdef5dc8.png

now only for fakefield check the taxiway:

image.png.1788eff18155df162dd2b520d6721d08.png

looks good, only after landing to be changed:

image.png.e7a227af57d90c654783b8b7e7bed41e.png

image.png.c7df7b5063364efb957205669e799025.png

For the helpers now move the AAAs, the supplies and the tower, but don' touch the WP0 TAke Off, and blue red flights

image.png.701af25c0cbfe7893d3edb40a457fc45.png

image.png.66970ef64542213d3c5e769e15e40657.png

At the end move all new objects to ground:

image.png.4da00fc2725c57c1fc448bdb474cf060.png

Add Achmer to the maps.json

Start EMG and test it:

image.png.60d9d1a3ca675fd26c631263aada1cd4.png

image.png.0f61841f4124e0c155823ab7f8b0ad81.png

seems to work!

After that you have of course to place targets object at the airfield for airfield attack and strafing!

Thank you so much for these steps. I didnt use your 43-44 template, rather im making my own based on the steps provided. I've added a bunch of the airfields around east germany, maybe 90% of them, all the big ones at least. Oh, and it does matter where the Red and blue flights are located in the helpers so you do have to move them around. Blue flight is where the lead flight will spawn at so I set red and blue up at sensible locations on each of the airfields I added. (see attached for what I did for Achmer). As you recommended, I did also go ahead and set up the taxi/takeoff/landing waypoints as its pretty easy to do for each airfield. The only airfields I added to the maps.json file are the ones I want us to be able to spawn at, and I did test them successfully.

Added a couple railway objectives (Onasbruck and Rheine) to the template file and tested them successfully too. I still have to add "planes" and "airfield" objectives to the larger airfields, as well as misc. objectives around the east part of the map. Honestly theres not much that would make a sensible target past Onasbruck lol. Also need to add some radar installations around that part of the map as well.

With your help, I am at least starting to understand the architecture of the template files and where everything is stored so thank you for that.

We intend to use this scenario to up to D-Day, at which point we'll switch to Pat Wilson's campaign generator for Normandy and post D-Day Germany. However, if you do finish up a late war high altitude intercept scenario, we would ABSOLUTELY use it to split day to day missions in PWCG, and high altitude intercept missions with Easy MG. We're thinking probably 1 intercept mission for every 2 PWCG missions should be a good balance. As it is, the current mission builder is working great and our group is loving it. They are excited to be able to use the full Rheinland map in defense of Munster :)

Great!

When I am back from vacation I would like import your work into my Mod.

Concerning Normandy I have created ca. 10 historical front lines for Vander. He has integrated already one of them in EMG.

At home I have already a v84 version of these Normandy fronts. Here a link to the v82 version:

and an EMG Invasion44 mission

hey @kraut1 I've got most airfields configured in the template, and large objectives for most of the NE Rhineland region, ie, Railway stations, airfields, parked aircraft, and factory objectives all added where sensible in that part of the map (if has a physical asset for it, I set up an objective). It all seems to be working properly except for factories. I cant get Easy MG to generate a factory bombing mission. There is also no option directly for it in the bombing mission type.

image.png.eeb153a2227aaa61807558098e5833e1.png

I tried random, even in an area where there is ONLY factories, but it skips over it and picks something COMPLETELY random elsewhere on the map and ignores the factory objectives configured in the template. Do you know how to get Easy MG to pick up and generate a mission to bomb a factory? The factory objectives exist in the template so they look to be an intended target option, but I dont see a way to get Easy MG to generate a mission to pick one. This is kindof a big deal because there are a LOT of juicy factory locations on East Rhineland for the allies to hit....

Thanks! And yeah I can definitely share any object groups with you that you need once this is all finished.

@kraut1 Nevermind, I figured it out :)

In the objectives.json, "factory" section, you need to delete Rhineland "G" from the "map_excluded" line. I suggest you do the same on your template as well. That is a very important objective type in Rhineland and Im not sure why almost every scenario on this map is excluded. Im tempted to just delete all the scenarios (A through I) for Rhineland so it shows as a target for all scenarios.

I made the change and tested successfully. Factory shows up as a bombing objective and the mission did generate correctly in the target area I had selected.

The original settings were for missions over the Netherlands.

I agree with you that for targets over Germany this has to be overworked.

Hi @I./JG3_Krakenskulls,

Sorry, I was and am busy with some other IL-2 GB Topic during the last 6 months: Kurland:

https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/89214-kurland-kurzeme-194445-mod-v03-released-22092024/

But despite of this I would like ask you if you please could post your EMG "Germany" airfield and target groups (the Rheinland Template Mission).

Many thanks in advance!
