Dkontrario Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 Hello, im kinda new to modding, and i was trying to make my own particles for the game, and in the process of getting them to look like i want i need to produce my own efx files, i was wondering if anybody knew what software to use to do this since i have not the slightiest idea and the only thing that comes up with google is Efax which is not it, so if anybody got any leads im all ears
MajorMagee Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 I've asked this question before, but did not hear any answer.
Stonehouse Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 There is no software available to us for efx or epl or mgm files. It is all stuff only the dev team has tools for. We're limited to changes to text files and dds textures pretty much and a lot of guess work. LizLemon and a few other hardy individuals have used hex editors on some of these types of files with success.

By this you mean that the files are too encrypted to edit or that they are a custom inhouse format so there doesnt exist any form of tool to recreate them from zero?
Stonehouse Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 Think it's the latter but there is no information I'm aware of to allow any sort of definite comment. You can open an efx for example and see some sensible ascii text so I suspect that the latter is the true answer. Like I said people have been able to use hex editors on things so you would conclude that it is not file level encryption. Note also that unGTP (the tool we do have to unpack a gtp file) does not give you everything, just what it can. Some stuff will understandably be always not available to us.
