What the heck is this on the back of the P-51 props?

I’m guessing the gunsight bore-site point, and camera bore-site points.

 

 

…for alignment purposes.

Yeah, I figured that.  But is that for real?  I've never seen it before.

Makes sense. You need some sort of datum to align everything to when setting up the guns, gunsight sight and camera, and the prop shaft should hopefully be in a fairly consistent alignment with the rest of the aircraft.

One would certainly hope so.
If they become misaligned, you may find yourself with a rather pressing problem.

Well, it's real.  It's not for the guns.  It's to align the gun camera and gunsight up.  I found this:

But what is really cool is that the devs found this and included it in the sim; that is real attention to detail and realism.  IL-2 is really cool.

She provided me with enhanced textures for the MIG-3 cockpit and P-51 propellers in mid-2020, which were finally integrated into version V4.505 on December 29th.
