For the devs to really check the situation they would need to know the exact range between the aircraft firing at you and yourself, exactly where the two aircraft were in relation to each other so they could figure out what armor was involved and where the rounds impacted your aircraft and then also exactly what rounds hit that caused your death and how many. Which armor and rounds are involved is obviously important as each round has different penetration or fragmentation damage associated with it and this is applied to the armor and so the damage transferred through the armor is determined. The penetration and damage drop off with range so knowing what the distance between target and firer is very important. The fragmentation damage drops quite quickly with distance so knowing exactly where the round exploded on your aircraft is also critical as this would determine how many fragments were involved in your death and the direction they came from, and so which armor was involved in trying to stop them. Suggestion only but I think you would need to attach a track file for them to get this info. Any chance you have the track? 1
Charon Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 This doesn't necessarily seem like a problem. The manual says it has 3/8" inch armor that will stop right angle hits from German .312 (7.92mm), but I wouldn't expect it to reliably stop 20mm AP. However, it's also possible you were killed by fragments from HE shells striking the wing; HE fragmentation is indeed over-performing.

It may not be the HE shell over performing but the logic for fragment allocation having an issue. I had the thought that perhaps at least one of the fragments was allocated to the bottom of the cockpit sphere of protection where the armor value is 0. Looking at the track you were slightly low when firing but I still don't feel that a fragment should have been allocated to bottom armor given the location of the hit. I feel that this is could the root cause of the issue you show and it needs to be here where devs might see it and investigate. If the fragment allocation logic is off somehow that may explain the issue people are posting about re excessive pilot kills. The only other thing I can think of is that multiple fragments hit the left side cockpit protection and the successive hits degraded the armor to the point that at least one fragment got through - it would be good to have a dev team person confirm that armor degradation definitely happens or not as that also may explain things better for people.
