Go Viks!!

SKOL! Bet we'll see more tight end use and a LOT more blitzing this year. Don't know how far we'll make it, but this season should be fun! ?

Go Lions!  (BEEN A TOUGH LIFETIME  supporting the lions), But.... it's harder for me to pass up Michigan State Football.

Oh man...I feel for you. Goff played at an elite level last year though. Detroit looks more like a contender than they have in a while. And the Spartans cleaned house on Saturday!

Deja Vu with the lions.  Lol. But fingers crossed.

Last Sunday, I got to fly patrols with my J5 squadmates on the 1917 map. While lately I've been kicking around in the Fokker Dr 1, last Sunday I decided to try my old favorite, the Albatros D.Va. A solid workhorse, while not great at anything, she's not really bad at anything either. Often the first training mount given to new German pilots here in Flying Circus, she still has enough appeal to entice longtime simmers like me to keep coming back to her as well.

We faced stiff opposition from Se5as, SPADs, and Camels and had some really fun furballs. As always, it was a pleasure flying with the wingmen I was privileged to share the sky with and an honor facing off against our esteemed opponents on the other side of the lines.

I'll be flying in limited fashion next Sunday; see you in the skies! ?

As mentioned a few weeks ago in this post , we indicated our intent to run a non-standard mission at least one Sunday per month.  We are proud to announce a special Sunday mission to be flown this coming Sunday, November 12 beginning at 1900 GMT!

The Just Another Day (JAD) mission series uses a shorter 2 hour mission format and represents daily "mundane" front line activity in the air war for a seasonal time span of 3 months.  “Winter 1917” starts December of 1917 and continues into Jan/Feb of 1918.  The series will be run one mission at a time once per month over the coming few months.  This weekend is the first is first of the series and introduces a new section of the front to the Flugpark.  Scenic Belgium!

•    This particular mission is asymmetrical, accounting for different historical strategies and characteristic of the planes available to both sides.
•    Features the historical airfields/squadrons present in this sector at this period of the war.  We hope that this will encourage artists to fill significant gaps in the available paint schemas for WW1 squadrons in Flying Circus.
•    Aerodromes capable of processing photographic plates from aerial recons have a blue “P” notated to the upper left of the airfield icon.  No icon = No dark room = No mission completion option there.
•    The "airstarts" traditional to other Flugpark missions, work very differently in these missions, only appearing as “forward aerodromes” with more limited ground inventory when player count gets high enough.  These fields are essentially both an emergency field and a forward staging ground that patrols coming into the sector can utilize for airfield services.  Note:  Their protection is limited compared to other aerodromes.
•    Highly randomized AI Escort missions (16 variations for each side) – Trench Mapping, Artillery Spotting, and Bombing - all along the front.  Completing those escorts and getting the 2-seater home earns their side inventory refreshes for the forward airfield.
•    Introducing a new level of randomization across many other aspects of the mission.  Airfields, activated squadrons, objectives, balloon response speed, ground defense activation, AI routing, and other systems.  Hopefully no two flights are ever the same.
•    AAA – Is going to be a different experience, with a much more constant, warning presence overall.  Ignoring that warning is a choice – including directly over enemy aerodromes.
•    Observation balloons provide both regional warning and solution information to front line AAA batteries.  Eliminating them will degrade enemy AAA coordination.
•    The trenches have infantry stationed in them with varying training and weapons at their disposal (per the time period) to greet low flying aircraft.
•    Central has to find and destroy a train, but don't know where it is.   But they know where it's going.  It gains defenses as it comes to the front.  It becomes easier to find, harder to kill as the mission goes.
•     Entente has a static armored train on a siding to destroy. Harder to kill, but not mobile and they will know in game where it is from the start. The armored train requires a significant load of larger bombs.
•    Curious about research or factors that were considered in designing the mission?  Grab a beverage between flights and check out the Historical Overview icon.

Enjoy!

Big day today with 89 players!
Apologies for the overload messages.  Fortunately it didn't appear to affect gameplay;

we have been experimenting with some things and there are plans to make adjustments based on today's experience.

After some time off, I'm back in the saddle in Flying Circus again! Honestly, it's just as good as when I left. Sundays are still popping and the action is as hot as ever. ? Got to share some epic fights with both my wingmen and my friends who popped in to watch the stream. And I got to experience the late-autumn map for the first time on Flugpark. It truly is gorgeous!

Here's to even more awesome fights in 2024! ?

Had a fantastic time on Flugpark yesterday! Squadrons on both sides were out in force. Ground pounding, high altitude dogfights, aerodrome raids, recons on both sides… yesterday had it all!

It was great to fly with old and new friends alike. I’ll be out of action next Sunday, but hope to get back in on this awesome action the week after. ?

Yesterday was crazy on the Flugpark! In my first foray there in the new quarter I probably already used up all my luck in some pretty gnarly engagements. 😅 Also got to see some of my squadmates put on a clinic on teamwork and dogfighting prowess. Truly awesome to behold!

Thanks to everyone who continues to make Sundays so much fun. See you next time! 🍻

Last Sunday we got the 1918 map, so I definitely had to kick the tires on my Pfalz D.XII again. 😎 I got to fly with guys from JG1, J5, No.23, US103rd, and IRFC — all in the same flight! Was a really unique and fun afternoon. Also, faced some talented SPAD and Camel drivers across the lines, including several very plucky SPAD 7s. We won some, they won some, overall a fun trade of blows. And to cap it all off, the last fight of the day was an absolutely tense affair. Frankly, I'm not sure how I, Artun, and Wolff survived! I'll have to chalk it up to those pilots' expertise under fire.

Was a ton a fun! I'll see you all next week! 🍻

Currently in the midst of a move, so my flying schedule is pretty spotty. Nonetheless, I still got a chance to squeeze in some flying yesterday afternoon. 😎 As the dusk fell, Klugermann, Farmer, Rummell, and I had some pretty awesome high-alt fights in Pfalz D.XIIs. Been flying this sim since it came out in 2018 and it’s still a blast!

You and your mates bounced 3 of us hard near the end of the mission. We scattered and dove away like barn sparrows running from a hawk. Lol. But miraculously we all got away and lived to tell the story. Was a great bounce though. Caught all 3 of us sleeping. 07

We each got lucky; we were lucky to have such a rare bounce opportunity and you were lucky we couldn’t hit anything. 😂👍

Salute and see you in the skies! 🍻

Yesterday I got to do more touring of the front lines in my Pfalz D.XII. My teammates took center stage, with Sturm completing a key recon, J37 helping fence away higher contacts, and Klugermann hitting a great drag and bag. As always, was truly a fun time! Great to see the server full and the front lines alive; thanks to all who came! 😄🍻

My weekends have been super spotty for the last 1-2 months, so it was awesome to hop back in the saddle yesterday! I got to wing with my usual compatriots in JGr2, as well as an old friend from my JG1 days. Definitely feeling a bit rusty, but that’s when it’s super nice to have great wingmen. 😎

I’ll be out next weekend on a family vacation, but I look forward to the next time I can get back in the air, whenever that may be!

Had the opportunity to wing with my JGr2 squadmates Wolff and Klugermann yesterday. Needless to say, I had an awesome time. Recon intercepts, sorties just as the sun was rising, and a pulse-pounding furball mere feet over no-man's land were the highlights. I'll be back for more this coming Sunday! 😄

I couldn’t get James Earl Jones to do it, so I had to settle for Weird Al Yankovic. Hope that’s ok. 😋😂

Last Sunday was a ton of fun, as usual! Got to wing with Hawkeye, Klugermann, Mai, and Matthias. In the distance, I got to see the pilots of J37 doing their deadly work. And we got up close and personal with the excellent pilots in No.10 and No.76 squadrons.

Also, among other things, I learned the benefit of retreating *towards* friendly lines (if you’re flying German, flying EAST is a great general guideline to follow). IYKYK. 😂

I’ll see you in the skies next Sunday! 🍻

Yesterday was a bit more of an abbreviated livestream as I was going through my Feldwebel certification for JGr2 earlier. Nonetheless, I still got some awesome action in, flying with Sopwithman, Hawkeye, Baeumer, and Wolff. We squared off against a plucky assortment of SPADs, Camels, Bristols, and even an Fe2b. I capped the day off with a <2% fuel landing and a near miss that nearly did me in. 😅

Thanks to everyone who showed up! I'll catch you all again next week! 😃🍻

My latest streak came to a fiery end last Sunday, but honestly, what a WW1 way to go! 🔥 Salute to RNAS_Andi for the killer shot. I'll be back for more. 😂👍 Final tally was 23 PVP, tying my best ever. 🙂

There was a lot more than flames yesterday though, with some fun escort work as we got to watch my squadmates Matthias and Tabasco (along with Limey) do fine work knocking down ground targets. Also appreciated observing J37 pushing the objectives with us. And of course, I would be remiss without mentioning Hawkeye and Wolff. It was great winging with you guys in fighters! Really, it is thanks to you (and others) that I got that far.

I'll see you all again next Sunday! 😄

Last Sunday, we had a great turnout on Flugpark! JGr2 kicked things off with a deep incursion targeting a railway station behind enemy lines and the action never stopped after that. That day, we were joined by Turbonix (great work on the railyard bombing btw!), Hawkeye, and the Imperial Royal Flying Corps.

Highlights of the day include watching Artun try to taxi back across no man's land after making a forced landing on the enemy side, an intense furball against Dolphins, and me trying a few airframes I rarely fly. (Dr 1 and vanilla D.VII)

Thanks to everyone who flew! It was a lot of fun - see you next time! 😎

Yesterday I had some free time, so I hopped on Flugpark. We had the 1917 map, so in a world of SPAD 180s and Camels, we Albatrosses had to play very disciplined. I've heard it said before that combat flying is hours of routine punctuated by moments of stark terror. That certainly was the case yesterday! One moment, all is routine. The next, you're in a fight for your life and the only way you're getting out is if you can rely on the man next to you. Yesterday, I got to see that in action on both sides. In my case, I was privileged to fly with Hawkeye, JGr2/J5_Wolff, JGr2/J5_Klugermann, J37_GCF, and RAF74_Limey.

It's super cool to see Flugpark still rocking even in the slower seasons! Also, if anyone wants an updated link to the server stats, it can be found here: https://flugpark.org/
Personally, I've found it much faster and a big improvement. My schedule is iffy these next Sundays through the end of the year, but if I ever get some free time like yesterday, you already know where I'll be. 😎

Got to fly with Hawkeye, Wolff, Klugermann, Sturm, Majorqc, Rummell, and Farmer (plus Artun stopping in to say hi) yesterday. Early 1917 map, so Albys again vs some skilled Nieuport, SPAD 150, and Sopwith Triplane pilots. Unlike last time, we got into fights pretty consistently throughout the stream. Salute to everyone we flew with/against! Those were some good dogfights. 🍻
