MarcoPegase44 Posted November 27, 2022 Posted November 27, 2022 (edited) Hello, I am starting a series of generic skins compatible with the new code system. I start with the RAF to offer BLANk skins with cockades and one of the more historical colors as well as the reworked alpha layers. I start with the Spitfire IXe and will follow the SpitV and the typhoon. Pack 3 skins Spifire IXe , spring 1944, DDays and summmer 1944. Picchio Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Lovely work on the colours. Perhaps the alpha channel could use an overall higher contrast and/or brightness? At the moment, the surface seems just a bit too opaque. 1

Good evening, For the Alpha layer, the purpose of this one is to render the reflections according to the nature of the surfaces, metal, wood, canvas. Personally I want to avoid the glossy or shiny side of many skins or, conversely, matte. For the same skin, the camouflage and the alpha layer have a rendering of different reflections depending on the lighting of the hour, the season or the weather conditions. Then it's a matter of taste and interpretation of each, the right balance is not easy. 3
Mtnbiker1998 Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Agreed the matte effect is a bit much. No paint can manage to be 100% nonreflective at all when its applied to a smooth surface like an airplane, and in game especially it detracts from the game's lighting effects and 3d models. To me this always seemed like a holdover from scale model painting where even a semi-gloss finish would look off on a small plastic kit - Not applicable with the way videogame lighting engines work. Otherwise great work though, I'm always excited for more blank skins to take advantage of the new tac codes. 1

JG7_X-Man Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 @MarcoPegase44 Great work as always - question: why do you recommend installing with JSGME?

I recommend JSGME because for some planes there are files also for the "Plane" folder in addition to the "Skin" folder. For blank skins I therefore standardize this way of doing things

czech693 Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 (edited) I like the matt look, except for the tires on the Mk.Vb. Looks like it was taxied down a dusty road. You might want to explain that the "skins.tab" file is in a gtp file which would have to be unpacked. Don't know which one as I have them all unpacked. It would appear in the (null) folder of unpacked gtp files and doesn't appear in the regular sim skins folder (At least it's not in my skins folder). Edit: Looking through my notes, it appears that the planes and skins folders are in graphics2.gtp. Edited December 19, 2022 by czech693

I have already used your blank RAF skins for the other types of fighters; your eye for colour is so much better than the default settings. The base game is way too oversaturated. Thankyou
