I’m sure that graphic would come across as a lot more witty if it was actually big enough to read.

I say, without reasonable doubt. This can not be cleared up.

Of course it can... it only needs a short sentence from the dev's to say whether or not the new project will be compatible with existing content or not. That's all I started this thread for, nothing else...

I took a class on the Napoleonic period some years ago, and the professor spent an entire two hour lecture talking about that particular graphic blown up to a massive scale on the hall projector.

In his defense it was terribly interesting for maybe the first 40 minutes, but the following 80 started to make me feel like I was the one retreating from Moscow.
I'd know it by a 200 pixel thumbnail in my dreams.

Also, as I've been lurking in this thread for the past week, I've come to the conclusion that this will truly remain Schrodinger's DLC and we're just one psychotic break from pulling out the red yarn and bulletin board.

For what it's worth however, I would greatly prefer the next release to remain under the Great Battles umbrella regardless of the setting, but that's just my preference.

Really? And I thought it was to have 7 pages of speculation. Stupid me ?

If you were expecting IL2 fans to speculate for only seven pages you've come to the wrong forum... there will be a lot more, be sure...

Hey, at the very least 1C has managed to bring this Forum alive with warm fuzzy comments, grey unsure comments and downright nasty pissed off comments concerning where this sim is going!

Congratulations Trooper, you have at the very least perpetuated that discussion 7 pages further into the realm of 'we still don't KNOW, even though we want to think we know!'

Congratulations mate, that is quite an accomplishment for a old geezer such as yourself.

Some P-40s without lame arcade-y engine timers... that'd be cool...and "something new"

In the meantime...

I am thinking they will bring back the points grinding to unlock the new collector's planes for free and also bring back the fantasy medals in the Battle of the Aleutian Islands module. Well, at least I am hoping for that because I have missed the grinding goulag and cartoon medals so much since the original BOS was changed.  What better theater than the Aleutians? No major cities, lots of interesting geography and plenty of open water to keep the FPS high on even the most meager outdated systems like my old Phenom II 965 BE & GTX 770 running Win 7. Gotta keep the old guys happy. This is where we are going. BE SURE!:thank_you:

Maybe they could take some pictures of airplanes and sell them, you would be able to own that one picture, and they earn money from ppl who have money to spend on this extra thing that dont take them years t make. I think this is great idea, pay for jpg pictures of airplanes, call it unique airplane token UAT or something like that , even better UAP unique airplane picture.

anather good idea, do they plan to make new game as SC is now 10+ year old? game engine is probably not posible to upgrade anymore, and who would buy 10+ year old game in 2023.  If they dont hurry and anounce SC 2 they gona end up behined the competition.

Whether they actually plan to release a game is debatable. It still is Alpha and they are using a version of Lumberyard (I think) and they are pushing the engine in ways it wasnt designed to go hence the lack of progress. But still according to the fans it is Early Days and Never Been Done Before.

They are generating massive revenue by selling dreams that reality can't possibly match. Releasing the game would be financial suicide...

Ok, so we have had the stream, learned a bit of what is going on with the game. We have also had yet another DD, learned a little bit more... we have had some nice pictures and a few sparkly baubles dangled in front of our eyes, so yes, they are throwing bits of stuff at us to keep us going ''oooh and aaah'' ... and yet, not a peep, not a hint, or a tiny morsel of an answer to my question in this thread.

It's quite simple... it only needs a few words, or even a yes or no from those who throw the shiny titbits out to us.... Will all the new content being developed be compatible with the existing stuff we already own?

Out of notifications for today, so upvote, like etc...

I paid a pretty penny upgrading my graphic card to run this game in full 2-D splendour (Not to mention, joystick, throttle and rudders).  I'd like to keep it for a while..

One of the great strengths of this game is the ability to mix and match the various components that have built up over time, to allow all sorts of stuff that was never originally intended.  For instance, you can now make 1941/42 Channel scenarios, using pieces from BoS, BoM, BoK, BoN and some collector aircraft.  I think many of us fear losing all of that.

That's the case for me.

And also, the fear that if they start a new series, that we'll have to wait another so many years again to fly certain planes before they'll be available there, if at all.

Also, imagine, one day we go Pacific, which will mainly be a naval plane combat sim (Wildcats, Hellcats, Corsairs, TBD's vs Zero's, ki's,...) and that will be fun don't get me wrong but a given moment some will want to try out flying there P51 or P47 or P40's against the Japanese fighters (that would even be realistic too as it happened irl), and if then the new sim is not compatible with the one of now, it'll be a pitty.

Have a nice day.

:salute:

Han clearly said "in 5 years you could probably consider it a "new engine" because of all of the changes that will have been made by that time"

Paraphrasing.

At no point did he hint at an immediate,  radically new engine that would make everything that came before obsolete.

They're not going to shoot themselves in the foot...so let's just see what shakes out?

Lol well we certainly have no choice but wait and see. In the meantime we can feast on these tiny morsels being thrown out to us.

Not sure I quite understand though, at least my perception has been the next theatre has already been chosen and work started.

So what is the big deal about not communicating this yet...

Do you know what?... as a single player user, I'm just coming to the conclusion that so much needs fixing in that regard, and every update they make seems to maybe sort some problem out, but mess up the game in other areas... I've not played the game in months now because it's no longer a joy to do so.

As much as I want all my existing content to work with all of this fantastic historical and scientific new stuff that Loft was raving about, (don't worry guys)...

I am slowly starting to think that if they do start from scratch and build the game from the ground up, sorting out the AI to what it should be, making the comms menu work to something similar at least like the original game, improving the GUI etc, that, and the new FM and DM, that would make the SP experience something worth waiting for.

While we wait for the new stuff to appear, there would still be what we have now to keep the rest happy... anyway, it's all pie in the sky until we get an answer from the powers that be  what will be compatible or not.

100% right. It really is a case of one step forward and two steps back and it has been like it for a fairly long time. I have always been a massive fan of the series of IL2 games but I hate to admit that my love and enthusiasm has all but drained away. As you said mate, fix this and then it cobbles that. Please one group of players and cheese off another. As I said in the "what's next" thread l, whatever comes out is going to have to be pretty spectacular. I think that sorting out all the current problems is probably more important at this point.

Although I agree, we would probably still be introducing new problems by fixing others.

There was also several areas that Loft and Han said that couldn't be actioned with the current game.  ?

I personally can’t agree with the two of you on this. I perceive constant improvement. While there are many areas I‘d still liked to see changed and my personal priorities are obviously different from the devs‘ SP still has gotten much better over time.

The revamped AI and comms they talked about I‘d like to see for this series though.

As a predominately single player user I've also gone through cycles of this.  The most recent, and longest one, was during the period that the AI's gunnery skills had regressed to a point that they couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from the inside.  I got tired of flying through swarms of hostile fighters with nary a care in the world.

That's been fixed luckily, and the ace AI is now a force to be reckoned with if they catch you unaware.

As such, in its current state I would say the singleplayer experience, at least in a fighter career, is at the best its been compared to any of the prior game builds.  There are still issues obviously, and the lack of a truly fleshed out comms system is still highly regrettable, but I second Eisenfaustus in saying that its nothing worth starting from scratch over.

Maybe they have not yet decided wether the new project will be integrated into our current sim platform?

If they knew what they wanted to do but are still trying to figure out wether implementation is actually possible or a new series has to be started that would very well explain the weird silence regarding this question.

Well, all that is needed is for them to say, ''we hope to integrate the new project with the current content and we are working towards that aim'' or something similar...

I have a gut feeling that somehow they are holding off on answering because the reality is different... hope I'm wrong though.

Well in any event I suspect they are going to want an influx of money - that is how it usually works I would think. And that would mean announcing the next "project" and opening it up to pre-orders.

So when ? Who the heck knows at this point...

I have had the same feeling since the live stream. It’s what they’re not saying that concerns me.
