Russian P-47?

Where would one go to fly a P-47 for the Russians? Like to give it a try. We DO have a Russian P-47 correct?

We do have Soviet skins for the P-47, but I believe the Soviets only had a few and they didn't see much action. Definitely not in any theater we have a career for.

You might, however, be able to start a Soviet campaign in PWCG and use the "equipment request" feature to requisition some P-47s for your unit. Not sure if @PatrickAWlson has configured P-47s as a Soviet option though. Historically accurate or not, they would be a nice addition given the lack of late-war Soviet planes and the fact that the Soviets did operate them at least occasionally in '44 and '45.

At the moment P-47s are not Russian planes.  I think the equipment request works by nation and not by Axis/Allied so I doubt that an equipment request will work.

Well, I see on the "Select a paint job" section they do have one , but don't really want to be flying Russian markings with USAAF wingman. Just thought it might be a little different.......Thanks.

i think in real life only used them for high altitude patrol, which means irl they didnt see much action

I think I could put something together for you for Kuban career if you want. It would be a total fiction of course. Ground attackers? Escort fighters?

Update:  I've created a version that seems to work. It turns the IL-2 Sturmovik regiment "47 ShAP" into a P-47 regiment. I just completed an attack airfield mission and it was a ton of fun despite five out of eight pilots were killed and a sixth pilot was wounded. The tactical codes aren't showing on the P-47s however so give me a little more time to test and fix what I can.

I recall there being a mission in Il-2 1946 flying P-47s over lenningrad, I think the few units flying them in the USSR were based around there.

I do not think there was any use of the P-47 by the Soviet Union, they did receive one or two planes and the only pictures we have under the red star are from a USA movie about the Berlin blockade ...so do not use the P-47 in any front in world war 2 with soviet insignias!  :salute:

They were sent 195, and 187 made it through the route, that's enough to have equipped a few squadrons.  For all we know it would have made an excellent reconnaissance platform for them with it's extended range compared to what they had and the high altitude speeds.

They were used mostly by the Northern Fleet I believe... Russian opinion was they didn't rate them, because they were no good at the altitudes they usually fought at.

A site I looked at yesterday authoritatively declares that all were delivered through Iran, and that any suggestions they were delivered by any other route including "the Alaska-Siberia highway" are "fiction." That said, an accepted history about the overland ALSIB Lend-Lease ferrying operation out of Great Falls, Montana, is that three P-47s were sent via the route. The photo of the aircraft marked "Sovereign Senators K of P" is, as I recall, one of those P-47s.

Okay, the files for a basic Thunderbolt career are here: https://www.mediafire.com/file/nhu55a45t9n6u08/Add_P-47_to_Kuban_v221107.zip/file

- Combine the mod's Data folder with your game's Data folder. It should add the SCG folder and its contents.

- Create a pilot career in Battle of Kuban flying for 47th ShAP (stationed on the coast, center of the map). I recommend you start out as the commander.

I couldn't work out how to add default loadouts for each mission type. If you are commander, you can arm your flight to suit each mission. Also, set your own convergence and fuel load.

This version adds the P-47D-22 with VVS skin and white tactical codes.

I originally attempted a transition to the P-47D-28 at the end of the career but for some reason I couldn't make the default VVS skin or preview show. It's for the best however, since the bubble top Thunderbolt would have appeared in combat a year too early.

Happy flying!

The P-47 is very power sensitive, and is somewhat under powered on its basic config. I'm pretty sure with only 100 octane fuel and water injection, the R-2800 was limited to only around 58" and 2300 hp, so even less than the current one.

It's performance at 30,000 ft will be the same, because that's limited by the turbo charger size, but you can cut about 15-20mph off of the speeds at sea level with just 100 octane. So maybe 330 mph at sea level?

Something like the La-5FN is going to be doing 360 mph at sea level. Even the Aircobra is going to be out pacing the P-47D-22 with 100 octane fuel.

So while I'm pretty sure they had the 190 or so, I can absolutely understand why they never used them for much.

Here is the skin you can use for the King of Pythias. You have it with my campaign Wall of Kuban.

This was a P47 donated by a private club. It was used mainly for training if I recall well.
